WTB yorkie terrier for my daughter. She just graduated from Middle School on today and will be a frosh this fall. She had a battle with meningitis this past march and almost died. She went to the doctor this morning for a follow-up and the Dr. said he and the staff at Saint Vincents Indy expected her to pass but God is good! Anyway, the wife and I wanted to get her something special that she's been wanting for a long time and since she's a very responsible girl and has our help too, with training and care, we're looking for a reasonable female yorkie that she can name Abbie. Not wanting to breed or anything, just a family pet and if holding the papers on it until we show proof of spay would be a better price for it, we're willing to go along with that plan too. Again, it's for our daughter just to show her how much we care and love her and for what she means to us. Thanks for the time and if you have any suggestions or know of someone, please let us know.

Peace!

Don't have a Yorkie for you, but just wanted to send a "Praise God" your way, and say how glad I am that your daughter is OK. How scary for you! Can't wait till you put that pup in her arms!!

God Bless!

Thanks PugMom! There is power in prayer and as praises went up on her behalf, the blessings came down.

Take care and God bless!

Take a look at your local shelter...there are so many strays and lost dogs that need homes. You might be able to find a yorkie or a small terrier mix! Good luck and god bless your family

What a blessing your daughter is - and a strong young lady, too it seems. Thank goodness her ordeal is behind you all.
A Yorkshire Terrier is a great little dog. Unfortunately, because the demand is high, many puppy mill pups are out there. It sounds as though you already know that a responsible breeder will insist on a spay contract for a pet puppy (as opposed to a show prospect). Your greatest chance of a well-bred, family-socialized Yorkie pup is to go through an established, ethical breeder. If you go here, you will find massive amounts of info on the breed and 7 great breeders in IN.

Good luck and let us know what you find for her!

The chances of finding a yorkie at a shelter are VERY rare. You might be able to adopt an older one...do a google search on "yorkie rescue" and you will probably find a society in your area.

As for me, this is Samantha Abbigail...we call her Sammie. She will be 3 next month. My parents have her brother, sister, and half sister. My sister in law has another of her half sisters :)

I also grew up with 4 yorkies...if you need any advice just ask

Thanks lwclancers! I already knew finding a Yorkie at the Humane Society would be like trying to find Osama in the mountains of Afaghanistan. I can appreciate the people wanting to help those animals at shelters but when you have a girl and she wants a Yorkie and her heart is set on one, and she's already named it Abbie sight unseen from the previous year, you don't settle for the H.S. in this situation. I'll check the rescues in my area but it will more than likely be slim pickings. I found a boy that was just a couple of months old for $300 but she didn't want it because it was a boy and she said they have their own personalities, plus she wants to dress it up with the bows and ribbons in it's hair. As she said, she could do that to a boy dog and wouldn't name a boy Abbie either. She knows what she wants and for that, I'll do my best to help her in her search. I apreciate all the suggestions though. I know they were all meant well and I took them in the spirit in which they were given. Thanks again!

My mum has a yorkie that she got from a reputable breeder, I think you can find the breeder by googling blue moon yorkies. My wife often "baby sits" him and dresses the poor thing up. I get the feeling he doesn't particularly like it much (as seen below). Anyway, my mum wasn't allowed to take him home until he had a little snip-snip and had to wait until he was three months old. I guess the good breeders are very strict about rules and placement of their dogs.

If you can't find a dog in Yorkie rescue, I would call your local AKC chapter or Yorkie club and ask who near you they recommend. You can also go here: http://www.akc.org/breederinfo/breeder_search.cfm

You may have to wait a while for a pup ... good breeders don't breed their dogs all the time, and Yorkies, like other toy breeds, have small litters. You may be able to get an older pup; sometimes you can get one that had show potential, so the breeder kept it, but things didn't pan out. You can also ask about retired dogs. I got my Maltese, Macy, at age 4 after she had to have a C-section and her breeder decided not to breed her again.

This site has great info on choosing a good breeder: http://www.phouka.com/puppy/bdr_frames.html

The AKC search is a great way to go!

You might get lucky and find breeders in the paper, but the AKC site makes sure you find actual breeders.

We got ours from a breeder, and all her siblings and half siblings throughout our family.

She didnt sell them until they were at least 3 months old, and we had to sign papers saying we'd get them fixed...which we did after delivery.

Keep us up to date on your search...and any other questions!

Thanks! I think I have a lead on one. An old friend of my wife who used to be married to a professional baseball player breeds Yorkies and has said she would give my wife a female for our daughter. Her litter should be born next month and ready for parents towards the end of August. This will be perfect since we'll be back from our vacation to Florida. Should be an ideal situation for all of us. My wife and this persone were high school best friends and when my wife ran away from home, she went and stayed at her house. They just happened to bump into each other at the nail shop where a yorkie was sold to the owner of the shop and I made the inquiry and the connection. Looks like it will all work out for good! Thanks for all the responses and wishes!

How far are you willing to travel? My parents got two Maltese from a breeder but the woman also breeds yorkies. About three families that are friends with my family got yorkies from her. The only problem is that she is about an hour east of Cleveland.

Hey, I traveled eight hours (four there, four back) to pick up Murphy. Otherwise, the best way is to go with a local AKC Yorkie club. They'll point you in the right directions.

Well, my daughter got her yorkie. She had been walking around the house calling her name for several months. My wife told her she was speaking of things that are not, as if they were. In essence, she was calling the yorkie into being. Long story short I found a lady around the corner who had both parents and she was moving into a new situation where she had a two pet limit. As bad as she wanted to keep the lone pup she had from a two pup litter, she had to part with this remaining female. We got her at 15wks and she is partially housebroken. Just as sweet as she can be. We've had her now for two weeks and we're currently in Georgetown, VA with her on a business trip with Starbucks. She is absolutely the stuff! Everyone in the Fairmont hotel where we're staying is attracted to her and also the people on the street. Our daughter just loves her! Over all, she's been great! Housebreaking continues to be good and the only problem we've had is she hates riding in the squad car. In it she pukes a couple of times and I don't get it. I'm not running anyone down but in the Civic or the Element she is real cool.

Got any pics to post of the puppy, I bet she's a cutie!

She probably smells the vomit from all the drunks in the back seat and feels like she needs to fit in :-D

It could be a slight shimmy in the squad car. For some reason, I always feel more body movement in large American vehicles (I know, I'm assuming it is an American) than any other. My wife can really feel it and it doesn't sit too well with her, maybe the dog is the same.

What GREAT news!!!! Congrats to your family.

So you're saying the pup ONLY gets sick in the squad car??? That is Bizarro. How about it, dog pros, what do you think is going on? (Or maybe JPH is on to something???? )

Yea, we stayed with the name Abby. It's as American as you can get in vehicles being a Ford Crown Vic. It's the only full size, rear drive car with a full frame which is a requirement for our department. As far as drunks go, I've never had one in this car or any of the other cars I've had in 26yrs. Usually I call the jail wagon if they're that pissy drunk to transport for me and if it's not available, we have plastic that we drape over the seats and floor. Since our prisoners are transported up front with us, (we never trans-p more than one at a time) the likelyhood of them doing something in our car's is slim to none being our cars are apart of salary and we use them off duty for family use as well. Thus my Element only has 500 miles on it, total since buying it in January. My '03 had 29K on it when it was traded in. Anyway, we keep our cars pretty clean and well maintained since we're the only ones to drive them. Our names are on the registration, the whole ball of wax.

I do have pictures of Abby but the file was too large to add to the post. I thought I had it set on the lowest setting but I was wrong. I'll have to post some when we get back to Indianapolis. People here in DC are just loving her though. She's getting alot of attention. BTW, we rented a Dodge Charger for this trip to DC and she was fine, though the vet gave us some pills to give her before we left. He said it would calm her and for us to take her on short drives before we left. He said she may just have he chitters to cars and upsets her stomach but in a short time she should come out of it. She didn't eat for over 24hrs when we got her due to seperation anxiety being away from her parents but she's cool now othe she won't crap just anywhere. Man, she's picky!

That's so great! I'm happy for your daughter, and the whole family of course since she came through her illness. About the car sickness, I just think your dog has extremely good taste. :)

Looking forward to pictures when you can send 'em!

Ok, here is a pic of Abby with my daughter Bri holding her while we were out for a walk in Rock Creek Park in DC on yesterday. Abbie is bigger than her mother and her just under the size of her dad. Her first exam with the vet before we got her she was 2.4lbs and now, the last visit before we came to DC she was tipping the scales at 5.2lbs. I took this pic with my Razr so the quality may not be as good with my regular camera. Abby is really enjoying DC. Lot's of attention and she has turned into a great walker on a leash. She walks on our left side just slightly ahead since I have such a long stride and when we come to intersections where we must stop for the traffic light she automatically sits until I step off to go. She's making my training an easy experience compared to the Akitas, Sheps and Rot's I've had through the years. Having her has giving me a new lease on getting out more and walking. I enjoy it anyway but now I have to make time to do and I take advantage of every opportunity I can get with her. Ithink we're all looking forward to getting back to Indianapolis on Saturday or Sunday. Funny thing, my wife's friend who breeds Yorkies may be giving us one next month, and if this is the case, I'm going to get it and have two so they can keep each other company. We'll see though. The ladies of the house are saying NO, let's just keep Abby all to ourselves and not share her with anyone or anything else. We'll see.

Two dogs can be more fun for the dogs, and even more free entertainment for the rest of you ... but it sounds like you'll have some convincing to do!

Ahhh! Annapolis, my old stomping grounds. I used to run the streets of Annapolis, MD back in the day. Hanging around the Severen Inn, Shadyside and Churchton. Loved it! I was just talking about Annapolis the other day. Maybe next year I can make it a planned event.

Having two yorkies would be more fun! I think if our friend gives us one we'll take it to at least keep me company. With the Mrs. traveling so much for Starbucks and our daughter will be taking Abby with her to her grandparents across town, I'd might as well have one to stay at home with me while everyone is gone.

check the breed rescue group(s)! The dogs are evaluated and matched with owners.

If you decied to go the puppy route - be sure to meet the pup's parents! Check around with other breeders as the the ruputation of the breeders. Check the breed club for breeders on their list. Sometimes breeders have retired show dogs that would make a great pet.

Yorkies are so cute ... Chance thinks they are fun to pester
