Thanks element-j!

I just loved the screw-up warning.

For the alarm system, instead of taking everything on the dash apart to mount the led's, couldn't you just find another suitable (read viewable) location to mount them?

e-j,

How did you remove the driver’s dashboard lower cover?

When I tried to install the keyless system, it said:

"Remove the driver’s dashboard lower cover, turn
the knobs clockwise, then pull the driver’s
dashboard lower cover out toward you to release
the six retaining tabs."

I turned both knobs clockwise fine but when I went to pull the lower cover toward me to remove it, only the left side came loose. I pulled pretty hard and I couldn't get it loose from the right side.

Thanks for the help,
Jim

I had exactly the same problem. The door would not release on the right side. After giving it a good yank and failing, I became concerned that my next effort would break the panel.

I wound up having to install keyless from underneath, which is still a snap. (Took me 15 minutes instead of 5.)

But, fogs are next and I need to get into this panel. So, any tips on how to get the right side to release? Just pull hard, or is there a trick?

TIA!

Under Image Gallery, the moved post about the hidden hitch says you have install info on the hidden hitch....couldn't find it on your site.

ExpressElement,

I was confused by that too. I think it was really referring to ProfJoel's instructions: http://gaia.ecs.csus.edu/~joel/fun/Element/HitchWiring.htm

Sorry - no hitch info on my site.

Working on integrating my cell phone into the factory stereo now - without sacrificing the aux jack. If it works out, will put up some photos. (If it doesn't work out I will, of course, deny ever having attempted it.)

Yes, that side can be very problematic. When I went to install my keyless entry, what I did was to reach underneath until I could feel the small tabs holding that side up. By gently pulling forward (or backwards, I forget now), I was able to release that side.

I pulled an Arthur Fonzarelli - one thump to the lower right side and it popped right out. Of course, it will only work if no one is watching you. If any one is, the blow will result in all tabs breaking off, the horn sounding and the windshield wipers going off javascript:emoticon('')

Regarding the fuse panel door:

Once you get it out, take some sandpaper or a plane to the right hand side. Only take a little off, then the panel will fit fine, and be much easier to remove.

J,
The E has a built-in cross over? So I would have to take them out (that little one with the tweeters) So I can install the cross overs that came with my Focal component speakers. Do I need to run new wires to the tweeters? or just take those crossovers out and use the same wires?

Yes... I agree... great info. I used it to install the keyless (since the dealer didn't include any install instructions). Worked like a charm. Had the same panel removal issue as everyone else so I just left it there and contorted a little more.

I also have a alarm to install, which is a bit more complicated. Every time I try to open the PDF file on your site I get a message "this page cannot be displayed" with a lot of suggestions to fix the problem, that don't work. I also tried to print out the instructions, and got a "lack of memory" error

The only real problem I could see was how to mount the microphone in that round piece of plastic around the automatic shift arm. Someone else asked the question, but I saw no response so I'll ask it again... does the mike have to be located there? Can it be mounted on the steering column cover with the LED? Tha would make my task easier, since I don't know how to get that round plastic thingy around the automatic shifter out. If that little fuse access cover was such a pain I can imagine how the sub woofer cover and round plastic thingy will be.

I assume the mic is directionally positioned in the instructions for best average monitoring of all the glass in the car.

Thanks so much for your site Element-J! Good readin' too!

I like your tip on using the anit-slip tape-I can just see that area getting scratched without it.

Element-J.... did you really put the "Screw Aerodynamics" lettering on there or is that a Photoshop job? I'd really like to do that. If you did it for real, where did you get the lettering? Is that just cut-out vinyl lettering like you get from a sign-maker? Do you have a file to send to the sign-maker that I could borrow perhaps? I guess if I just knew what the font was I could always whip that up. It just needs to be the right length to fit under the ELEMENT plate exactly. Are you a professional graphic designer? Is that enough questions?

Hey E-people, I wanna install some Piaa fog lights (preferrably the 525's) into the existing fog light openings. I don't know if they will fit there easily, or at all. Can anybody give me some advice, warnings, etc?

Thanks,
Nick.

totally awesome (i'm not being repetitive here, no)

Element-J, many thanks for an excellent job ...i will now have the courage to do two very important things:

a. actually consider the hula-girl
b. serially consider the roughly 220-bucks-investment of upgrading my 4 speakers and the two tweeters, as gloriously and meticulously described on your site...tata!
