: St. Bernard pup--name suggestions
Liberty 06-03-2006, 12:03 AM So, my Kiwi Metallic E is going to have another passenger in July--a St Bernard male puppy.
There are a few names that I have considered. None of the other pets have very common names and I will most likely continue to stick with this practice, but I am flexible :)
There a few names that I have always liked--Hazard, Taser, Noah
But...
I have always loved the name rhythm
There is only one thing, this puppy is having his right front leg amputated and my mother thought that rhythm would sound as though I was mocking his uniqueness, so now I just don't know.
What do you all think, does it seem mocking? Any name suggestions?
TriJim 06-03-2006, 02:47 AM I can't help but respond --
We have two Saint Bernards and our '06 TRP (RubE) is their limo.
This thead needs pictures so here is "Bo" in her native habitat. We call this her blue kennel (and sorry for the mess -- we were getting ready to move). "Callie" is an AKC Champion.
Now -- names: The most famous Saint Bernard name is Barry which is usually reserved for the best male in the litter. We named our first female "Barrie." Our current Saints are "Bo" -- which means precious and "Callie" -- short for California Girl (where she was born). I'd recommend you look for a name which is easy to say (and remember for your friends), has personal meaning, and starts with a strong consonant sound so the dog can easily recognize when they are being called.
Good luck and enjoy your drool machine! ;-)
chozn4service 06-03-2006, 08:03 AM I like Bernie~
Sanveann 06-03-2006, 08:51 AM Awwww -- poor little guy!
I agree with your mom about Rhythm. I like Noah, personally.
Cyclist_306 06-03-2006, 09:52 AM At my college, this was the type of dog we had as a mascot. My grandmother also had one. My name for both was SLOBBER. May I suggest you wrap all plastic pieces of your E in saran wrap.
jimmags214 06-03-2006, 10:21 AM How about Cujo? You know, scare those burglars and stuff. Or maybe go the opposite way, like Tiny or Fluffy?:D
M1 1I 1K 1E 06-03-2006, 11:07 AM I've always been a fan of "cooper"
WoodysBlkElement 06-03-2006, 02:29 PM Ok I just have to add this name to your list. ( TRES ) as in UNO DOS.. We have a English Bulldog named MAXIMUS but he dosent really live up to his name sake. He spends a lot of his time sleeping and then when he's not sleeping he's sleeping.. He is the greatest dog I have ever had and wouldn't want him any other way. He just likes to hang out and oh yeah..... GAS!! he has some wicked gas. Like burn the paint off the walls gas. Other than that he's the "BOMB". no pun intended..
bigred1 06-03-2006, 03:06 PM How about Barnie??? short for Bernard:)
ethos 06-03-2006, 03:09 PM Hazard, Taser
Is this dog planning on being an american gladiator?
There are plenty of unique names that are still work, for this particular dog I think Ralph
Americonium 06-03-2006, 04:25 PM He's a St. Bernard, why not a Saint's name?
St. Anthony of Abbot is the patron saint of Amputee's, and St. Nicholas of Tolentino is the patron saint of sick animals. Just an idea....
Liberty 06-03-2006, 07:19 PM Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I am loving it! I am about to run out the door, but will post a picture of the puppy tonight, for more inspiration.
You all are great!
kissya 06-03-2006, 07:20 PM I like Bear, Bernie and Sam.:D
Wally 06-03-2006, 08:18 PM How about Webster, since you may get his name from the web?
PugOwned 06-03-2006, 08:47 PM Hey Liberty,
Our most recent adopted rescue black male pug is BooBoo. Who just happens to be missing his front left leg. Since he had his name when we adopted him we did not change it. No doubt he was given it because of his missing leg. Some of our friends call him 'tripod' which we do not really appreciate. He doesn't even know he is handicapped. We are sure your new little St. Bernard won't either and will adapt just fine. Once you get him home, he will no doubt show you his name. It's wonderful of you to give him a loving forever home even with his misfortune.
1111rustbucket 06-03-2006, 10:06 PM "duct tape".... or "barkley"
blackdog1 06-03-2006, 10:08 PM Noah sounds pretty cool.
Liberty 06-03-2006, 11:14 PM Here is a picture of the pup...
I love Noah, Bernie, Barney... On my way home from work I saw a license plate with "Emmit" and thought that name was sweet.
I also was thinking of possibly Axel, Ben or Benson, Norman, Levi, Raffy, River, Sawyer, Wendell, Nudge...
kissya 06-04-2006, 07:02 AM Nudge???? That's cute.:D
jurneez 06-04-2006, 09:00 AM Liberty stated - my mother thought that rhythm would sound as though I was mocking his uniqueness, so now I just don't know.

No, No, No, Rhythm is perfect, calling him gimpy is mocking but Rhythm is perfect. The dogs fits into the rhythm of your life and you fit quite nicely into the rhythm of his life. Nice match - making music together.
Stick with Rhythm.
chozn4service 06-04-2006, 09:33 AM OK OK OK in the real for of Joe Peschi (sp), I came up with an original name that is cute, highlights his uniqueness yet it's a one syllable and that's good for a dog. They say don't go over two. The name should be in my humble opinion, TREY or TRE. It's it has a meaning of three and some use it as a nick for a child or person who is carrying on the name for the third time in a family. Something to think about at least. Good luck with him! I have some friends who have a wrecker service in Lapel, IN and they have one and man is he growing fast. He has a great personality and takes no stuff. I think the triangle eye's in the way the corners droop is so cool!
E-Ticket 06-04-2006, 09:44 AM I think that you need to celebrate the uniqueness of having a three-legged dog. I don't think you do it in a mean way, say like "Tripod", but as was suggested.
"Trey", or "Tres" (Spanish for three). Maybe you can run with the musical theme by naming him "Waltz" (as in three-four time, a subtle inference).

He is precious!!!! I like Raffy.
crackerjax 06-04-2006, 04:53 PM How about "BOWZER"?(any spelling) as in SHA-NA-NA! :D

Whisky!!!!!:D
woosterpuss 06-04-2006, 11:48 PM Tralfaz!
along the lines of the 'saint' route, Abbot, or Vicar.
kissya 06-05-2006, 12:11 PM What about BoB? ;-)
Liberty 06-06-2006, 12:34 AM I have considered Bob, it is on the long list. Vicar is a pretty sweet name!
The poor little guy is three weeks old and while the rest of the litter is starting to wobble around and play, he has almost given up moving around.
Hopefully the surgery to remove his front right leg will be successful and he will be able to withstand the anesthetic, since he is so young.
Keep the little fella in your thoughts
Liberty
jurneez 06-06-2006, 06:43 AM This little guy is in my thoughts, really hope all goes well.
He is precious!
Good luck.
Thinking only the best for him.
jurn

karma 06-06-2006, 05:47 PM They are so lovable, it's a good thing the 'E' has room. I have always liked the name 'Bubba'...

Cole for Nat "King" Cole
Carroll for Barbara Carroll
Prez for Lester Young
Charlie or Parker for Charlie 'Bird" Parker
Duke for Edward "Duke' Kennedy Ellington
Billy for Billy Strayhorn
Satchmo for Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong
Monk for Theolonius Monk
Noah for Noah Howard
Herbie for Herbie Han****
Marcus for Marcus Roberts

Liberty 06-06-2006, 09:58 PM My brother is an avid jazz fan as well. I am writing all of these suggestions down.
Thanks a million everyone
bobhch/hchbob 06-06-2006, 11:26 PM Gonzo or Beaker......Sweet puppy.......... Enjoy........Lucky! (you are lucky, not a name suggestion) :)
woosterpuss 06-10-2006, 08:13 AM such a cute pup!!!
all the best for him!
NighthawkStella 06-12-2006, 11:16 AM I've always been a fan of "cooper"
this is an existing "Cooper," it is a great name
Liberty 06-13-2006, 01:32 AM Here are some recent pictures of the puppy.
His surgery is Thursday. His breeder says that they are having difficulty putting enough weight on him. He uses so much energy just keeping up with the others and healing himself, that he is about half the size of the rest of the boys. :(
I hope he is well enough for surgery on Thursday and pulls through all of this.
He is just heartbreakingly cute. I have a Shih Tzu here who is acting like a mama kitty, cleaning the cats ears--I think between the two of us, this puppy will be well taken care of.
NYinNC 06-13-2006, 12:53 PM Considering their likely riding position in the E...
"CARGO"
seems an appropriate name...
maybe E-cargo
Bald Eagle 06-13-2006, 01:06 PM Brandy?
Hoover?
Tripod?
Cute now, but when he gets to be the size of a piece of furniture or household appliance...
Kenmore?
Maytag?
Amana?
Viking?
How about Kenworth? (tractor-trailer, delivers a big load!) Call him Ken or Kenny for short.
1690
Liberty 06-16-2006, 08:58 PM The puppy is doing well post-surgery and is walking around better now that he doesnt have the pain of the left leg.
I had a dream that I named him Ted... I have no idea where that came from.
jsnapple 06-17-2006, 10:52 PM what bout the name "Lucky" i think that name would suit it great!!
KermieOwner 06-18-2006, 01:40 AM My first thought was Bernie...as many others have suggested, but I also love Ted. My daughter has a stuffed bear that we named Ted E. Bear. I could see him being just as loved and cuddly as our Ted.
If you don't mind me asking, why did they have to amputate his leg? My heart goes out to this furbaby and but if really warms my heart to know he is going to have a wonderful forever family.
Liberty 06-18-2006, 01:24 PM His leg was amputated because the umbilical cord had been wrapped around his leg for sometime prior to his birth, so the limb was extremely small, raw and very painful for the puppy, so they had to do a full amputation.
I can't believe that in a few weeks he will be here. I will have to post many pictures
GreenElle 06-18-2006, 02:14 PM I like the name Ted. I would make it even easier for the dog and use "Teddy". I wish I had a house so that I could have a dog. I don't like cats. I hope he has a speed recovery.
KermieOwner 06-18-2006, 06:30 PM Well I can't wait to see some pictures of the little guy. Hope the operation goes smoothly and that he's part of your family very soon. I love my furbabies so much and just can't imagine life without them.
Don't forget to let us know what you decide to name him:)
Tragu 06-20-2006, 09:09 AM Sorry to hear about your dog loosing his leg. But I feel that a name like Tripod or lefty would be funny and fitting.
Just my sense of humor
Tragu
bsdowner 06-01-2007, 09:36 AM How about naming the dog Element :-) or would that be too confusing??
Chance's "cousin" Signature's Element, call name Atom, is one of the top Belgian Sheep Dogs in the USA. Atom was in the Westminster this year (did not win)
ann54 06-01-2007, 10:59 AM Poor baby! I hope his recovery goes smoothly.
bh241 06-01-2007, 11:07 AM isn't this emmitt (sp)? or am I thinking of another three legged saint?
