The "where does your element sleep" thread got me wondering: Has anyone else fixed up their garage to make it nicer? I would really like to put that sealer on the floor that you put down with a roller and then sprinkle those specks on top. I have seen the ads in magazines and on tv and it looks like a DIY type of job and seems to look really nice. I also want to put in some cabinets and more lights so that the garage isn't dirty, dark, and full of spider webs.

I really enjoy making my garage a nice place to hang out and work. Check out this forum (http://www.garagejunkies.net/) for some input on lighting, floors, etc.
The site also has a lot of pictures. Some are very basic and some are just over the top.
I still haven't done my floor. I am leaning towards race deck type tiles over paint.
Lighting is Very Important. Don't skimp.
Post some before and after pictures if you decide to remodel your garage.
Some where on that site are pictures of my garage before I painted, etc. It looked like a dark dungeon!

I have a really nice 2-car brick garage with an attic and tongue-and-groove cieling. It's even got two glass brick windows. I've ben meaning to seal the floor and paint the cinderblock walls, but I just haven't gotten around to it. I think I might cut a drain in the floor as well, since there aren't any.

Ours is a tiny one-car garage. If there's a passenger in my husband's '57 Chevy, they better get out of the car before he pulls into the garage or they'll have to slide across to get out from the driver's side.

Yeah I agree with pt91. Lighting is important. I have to add more lighting now this summer.

Well After getting the Element I sold my 70 Nova. Didn't need it anymore. We have a 3 car garage and turned the one into a work area and storage. All I can say is "PEGBOARD,PEGBOARD,PEGBOARD" Yeah baby!

I took a week off from work last summer to build this monster storage unit. I kinda got carried away and now Mrsbobhch has to get in the Element outside of the garage when I pull out. We can all get in and out of the Mini Van with no problems. Somehow it seems that we take the Element everywhere and the van only gets used for Mrsbobhch's transport to work and back. The "E" is just more fun to drive and I don't have to bend like a pretzel to get in the Element! :)

Yeah I need to finish putting some doors on and clean up a bit. Gotta paint the house and then finish this project up this summer. I think we still need to build a shed in the backyard for the Snowblower in the summer and the Lawnmower in the winter. Storage....gotta have it.

I put lock thingys on all of the doors. If you have kids this is a sure fire way to keep them out of your stuff. Unless they find the key and make a copy without you knowing it. (Um yeah I did that once).........

Haven't done the floor. My Brother in law did that with the little flaky chips and it looks real nice. Maybee someday but, not this year!

Been checking out a cool website called Garage Junkies...pretty hard core fans of making a garage one's own.

Anyway was taking some pics today after giving the Zaino treatment to my Accord and thought I'd snap a few pics of my little space.

Can fit 2 cars comfortably and still plenty of room to move around. The ceiling is 22' feet high...the idea of a loft is really something I am considering :D

Anyways, lets see your space!

PS...what is the web address of that garage site?

Its an odd shaped though...only half the garage has that space...was thinking of a loft for a workshop.

I'll have to take some pictures of the garage at the new townhouse, it is actually really big considering it is a townhouse. We could almost fit two cars in it (one behind the other) but my car is just a little too long. If I get a yaris, scion, or other short car we will def. be able to swing it. Assuming we don't keep anything in the garage that is.

I want a garage so bad. I had a beautiful detached garage in my house in TN that I was fixing up before I moved to Northern VA. Now I have a townhouse thats barely affordable and I have to keep three tiered Craftsman ball bearing toolbox next to my washing machine, dragging everything up the stairs when i do any work.

Then my neighbors stare at me like I'm a criminal as I do even the most basic work on my Element!

Why oh why must you bring up this sore subject? Argh! Maybe I'll just move out to Winchester with you. A coworker lives there and the morning commute is only 3 hours!

I commute to Chantilly from Winchester. Garage to work door is about 1 hour give or take 10 minutes.

3 hours...he must leave Winchester at like 7-8. I leave between 5:30-6 and get here between 6:30-7.

I don't think I could ever commute more than an hour and a half. Its bad enough driving an hour each way to and from work, I couldn't imagine any more than that.

Here is one of my garage toys. I am cleaning up the rest of the garage so more pics to come!

This is my work horse. A 1940 Southbend turret lathe! I rebuilt her from a pile of parts many years ago! I am an industrial pack rat! I find much of this stuff in the trash!

Sorry about the whited out areas! I still do a little sub work in my garage, and a few of the items are from people trying to get patent pending!

Hi

If you go with floor sealer or paint on the garage floor remember that it *will* wear off. Your tires bring in grit on them and it's like sand paper. The tire tracks will show up after a couple of years at most.

That's not to say don't do it. Just count on re-doing the process from time to time. It does make the garage look neater and it's a lot easier to clean up stuff like oil.

I don't wanna jinx anything....'cause i ain't bought it yet but.....

http://www.hunterdonmill.com/images/eoc/garage0307.JPG

This should be mine by the begining of May. 3 bays wide (one door in the rear) There is a nice sized shed dormer off the rear so the second floor is pretty sweet.

Oh yeah....there is a house too. :)

It needs some personalization....but give me a few years and it'll be great.
(I've been stockpiling "junk"* for 10 years for this thing)

Get out yer cameras...time to show off yer "Car Palace"

Here is our recently renovated garage.
The 1st pic was taken right before hurricane Ike.
The downstairs contained 2 bedrooms a bath/laundry room and a party room.

After Ike, we gutted the downstairs and installed 4 garage doors, 2 in the front and 2 in the back.
The new garage will hold my E, a golf cart and the teardrop.

Mr. Jojo totally loves his new garage, just not how he got it.

I'm jealous! This is the first time in my life I haven't had a garage/shop. After relocating for my job I am now renting a condo and have a small storage unit for the Harley and tools. I really need a garage/shop again. It's driving me nuts not having one! Really need to figure out where I'm going to live for a while and buy again. I hate renting...
