: Anyone Installed a CB Radio yet?
figyur8 06-08-2006, 10:50 AM To All you electronic gurus,
I'd love to install a CB in my E for fun and info on road trips.
I saw nothing else on any forums about this so i'm wondering if anyone has:
A) Installed a CB yet - If so, any recommend on models, placement, running wires, etc.?
B) Thought about it, tried to figure on how/ere/when to do it??
- I'd like to get some discussion going on this as I'm sure there are so many of you technically inclined folks who could help out...
Thanks,
C
PS - If anyone has done this and has photos that would fantastic!!
Wally 06-08-2006, 11:45 AM I have a VHF radio for work installed. The radio itself is bolted onto the Sub-woofer housing, which seems to be sturdy enough, and wired into the fuse box for power (I could not find a way through the firewall that I liked). I bit the bullet and drilled a 3/4" hole in my roof, aft of the roof rack line, to fit a NMO antenna mount, ran the antenna cable under the roof liner, up to the passenger side A-pillar, then down behind the dash to the radio.
Very clean install, no wires running loose, and most importantly, no electronic interference from any vehicle components. :D
SamIam 06-08-2006, 12:13 PM Have you thought about bringing a handheld scanner along?
As far as antenna placement goes, the plastic rear bumper wouldn't work, but the work around for that would be to get a hitch and a cargo tray, bolt on the antenna and get a side clip near the front or center it from the hitch and over to the rack.
I would think an install would be straightforward...bring it to an installer or get a cigarette plug type. I would make a trip to your friendly radio-shack. GL

thats nice! i tried doign that EXACT thing (though, i have a RS Pro-2055)...aftermarket head unit w/ the scanner underneath it...but it doesn't fit. I get everything to fit in and then when i go to place that 3 sided grey plastic peace over it...it won't accomidate the scanner, did you have to do anything special? Thanks

No it was easy. It sticks out a little bit, but very very hard to notice or show it as out of place. The bct-8 works well. No modification or acessories needed.

what kind of mounting bracket did you use? thanks!
kb9yiv 06-12-2006, 09:29 AM what kind of mounting bracket did you use? thanks! Here is the beautiful part. The stock OEM bracket that holds the regular radio on the LX is all you need. Remove the tray, insert the bct-8. (it will need to be slanted down a bit during install) ans Use screws from ace with washers, as the bct-8 does not come with mounting screws. Thats all you need, it sticks out about half a inch from either the stock oem radio, or the Kenwood I installed. It worked fine with the stock. But with the stock you have to wiggle it in a little on install when reinserting the bracket into the dash.
