trickyvick 06-14-2006, 10:46 PM Thanks to you for checking her out.....we are trying to get the hits up on her site....she (and her pet human Bill) was interviewed by Steve and Johnnie on wgn radio (Chicago Radio station) the other night (I think last night) and she is mentioned on thier blog page.
Not bad for a 1 year old dog from Summertown Tennessee.

trickyvick 06-18-2006, 08:15 PM Well, I got a picture of Sandy with my Element today....it was raining so she had her rain-suit on. It is not a good picture but it will do.

bobhch/hchbob 07-06-2006, 01:49 AM I checked it all out...Sandy is one cool dog.
Dogs always like to hang there heads out car and truck windows so, this is like dog heaven for Sandy! :)
Bob
That's awesome!
How fast have you gone with Sandy on the back?

Well, I have followed Bill and Sandy on the interstate at 70 to 80 mph....it is my understanding that she has been to the mid 90's (top speed for the 400) before.....she is fine with that....the fun part is on a real curvey road to watch her shift from one side to the other to maintain her balance.

gisele 02-17-2007, 03:03 PM Trickyvick,
Is Sandy strapped in at all? 70-90 mph is pretty darned fast to simply be balancing. Heck 20 mph is a lot. :?
P.S. Thanks for sharing the cute pics.

Absolutely not.....neither is Bill. I ride a motorcycle all of the time and do not want to be tied to the bike. If I go down on the bike, the last thing I want to happen is for the bike to drag me down the highway...the safest place to be is off the bike and clear of it.
Sandy does fine unless there are outside issues. They were sideswiped once at 70 mph and she came off of the bike.......60 miles from home, she got back on and rode home. The idiot that hit them was trying to take a picture while driving. :x
Rocket Dog 02-17-2007, 09:33 PM OK I'm going against the grain here but...
I think it's irresponsible to convey your dog on the back of a motorcycle/scooter. The dog has no protection in the event of a crash. It's cute, certainly, but very dangerous for the dog. I'm sorry to sound like a grouch here, but that's how I feel about it. Its unsafe.

This from a guy that straps a rocket to the back of his dog???
Seriously.......if you have a pet, I assume that at some point in time you have to transport that animal from one place to another.....do you do it in an automobile? Do you put a seatbelt on your pet? If not, what makes you think that hitting a plastic door panel on the inside of your Element or being EJECTED thru a windshield/window is any safer than riding on the back of the bike? This is not something that any dog can do, it takes a very well trained and DETERMINED dog to be able to do this.....essentially, Sandy LOVES to ride on the bike and Bill has NEVER pushed to make her do it. Maybe she should only go places that they can walk to......that should be nice and safe?
I understand your opinion but I have to tell you that Sandy is VERY WELL CARED FOR! The last thing that Bill would want would be for ANYTHING to happen to her.....she is his life....they spend 24-7 together and she is his best friend.

Hi again. First let me apologize if I suggested you did not love your dog. I know you care for Sandy very deeply. I care for my Megan as well. When she rides in the car I use a harness that connects to the seat belt. It keeps her from slipping off the seat in case of a sudden stop. Here's what I use, it was $30 at Petsmart but there are others on the market. Amazon has it cheaper.

Some states have laws against letting dogs ride in the back of a pickup truck. I don't see a whole lot of difference between a dog riding in the back of a pickup and Sandy "balancing" on the back of the scooter.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Rocket Dog and I see this the same. Yup, it's cute, amazing even, but this seems unquestionably irresponsible to me. Sorry. It's so frustrating to see people use a dogs enthusiasm to sanction questionable human actions. Pit bulls that are trained to fight to the death are enthusiastic and determined, does that mean it's ok because they seem to "enjoy" it?
A dog will trust you with its life and that gives you the responsibility to respect that trust. Sure she seems to enjoy this and she no doubt loves being with her person, but a dog obviously doesn't have the mental capacity to recognize the danger. It's only a matter of when, not if, some unexpected traffic situation exceeds her ability to balance on that little patch of seat. It's happened once already and that was mentioned without much concern. (The person who hit them was quickly labeled an idiot..) It's also laughable to compare this to riding inside a car. It is an order a magnitude more likely for the dog to be injured or killed falling off a bike on a highway at speed. Visualize that scene. I can't believe ours is the minority reaction to this.
You obviously think this is benign, but I think it's foolhardy. :x
