Hi,
I purchased my new 2006 LX last week and wanted to upgrade the very basic audio system without spending too much. Also, I'll probably install it myself so I'd prefer speakers that don't require too much modification to the door and I suppose that means non-component as the pillars aren't wired in the LX. I'm pretty flexible as far as the HU goes but I'd like to get the most bang for my buck for the 4 speakers with and easy install. I've muddled through the stickys and the forums but am still a little unclear of my best choices. Any suggestions?

Thanks - what store gives you that discount? Also, when I went to crutchfield it says for the rear door only. These fit in front with stock grilles?

I'll give a second thumbs up to the Polk db650's. They're pretty good for the price, and much better than the stock speakers on my EX-P.
I would check out Crutchfield if for nothing else to find out what's available in your price range. If I were you, I would make sure that my new HU had a aux input for use with an MP3 player, or even an XM radio. And if you get the stuff from crutchfield, they will send you instructions, and an adapter to connect your new HU with the E's wiring.

Yup - looking at a little better unit than the Clarion - probably a pioneer in the 200-250 range. I like crutchfield - especially having the connectors provided - but sometimes I hate paying full retail. ;)

I'm in a similar situation. I was looking just yesterday at crutchfield. how about an Alpine CDE-9843? It seemed nice and for an extra $30 you can get an adapter to plug in you ipod which will then be controlled by the head unit. That was something I want to have in my next radio.

I would give the Pioneer the thums up. I've bought 3 head units over the last 5 years from crutchfield and their service is top notch. You might pay a little more but you get instuctions and all adapter you need plus the dash mounting kit. As for speaker you might want to check out their sales section.

Yes, I'd recommend the Alpine CDA-9856 (http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/products/product.php?model=CDA-9856) strongly. It's iPodFullSpeed system is the best at controlling an iPod, period. Nobody touches it. You also get satellite ready (XM or Sirius, your choice) and preamp outputs for front, rear and sub, which is what you need to hook up to the factory amp, although I realize you two folks don't have EX models and the factory amp. You'd use the 50x4 in the deck to power your door speakers.
It's only $230 retail with the iPod adapter, right in the price range qamper and you were considering.
