I need some help in deciding what to do with my rims and tires.
I bought my E with some very nice 18 inch rims with which seem to be the most popular Goodrich tires on them.Unfortunately the previous owner never rotated them and the cupped badly.I took the rims and tires off and installed the OEM Honda rims and Goodyear tires.I have no complaints so far about the Goodyear tires as they were brand new etc.
Now I have a choice and need help.Do I go back to the 18's? If so what tires do i install,I live in Northern Michigan and need some good all around tires that will last more than 20,000 miles. Is there such a tire for the 18 inch rims?
Or do I pop for some 16's and keep the stock rims? The 18's are cool but I am not sure I enjoy have the hassle of feeling every groove in the road and having it throw the car around. This is our family car now and I hate to have my wife complaining about how hard it is to drive our E.
What to do? I know it's a matter of what we want,I want cool AND function.
If it's 16's I have some VERY nice 18 inch rims for sale.

thanks,
Phil

Maybe I didnt read right, or did't see that this is not an option, but, why not 18s in the summer and 16s in the winter. The roads are good enough in the summer that low profile tires would be fine and you could save some salt damage on the custom 18s as well. In the winter, when everything is covered in mud and the winter salty snowy dried haze, go for the function of 16s with with good winter tires.

By the way, where in the UP? I was born in the Houghton area and my extended family is in the copper country or Crystal Falls. We will be road trippin there in Oct. with our E.

the next question is what are the width and offset of your 18's, b/c that is your main influence on what kind and size tire to buy.....any closeup pics of your rims?

I'd have to agree w/mayberry. Go with 18's in the summer and the 16's in the winter. I'm going with 20's in the summer and stock for winter. With 18's I wouldn't think you'd have to go with a very low profile if you didn't want to. 40 or 45 at the lowest possibly a 50 profile or 55 whatever is made for your wheel size. If you like to custom look also definitely stick with the 18's :D

I have hankook tires, but I used to have toyo and don't think you can go wrong with those or nitto. Just do some research on google for the tires you like. Just about every tire has reviews and feedback on them.

I live in Indiana (not too far from you) and my 40 profiles ride pretty nice I don't notice much of a difference in ride quality, and I think the wider tires handle better too.

I think guitarman means that both sets of his 16" and 18" tires are shot and he wants our opinion of which tire we would buy new replacement for if we can only choose one size. If he was to keep the 18"s for summer and 16"s for winter use, he would have to spend the money to buy two set of tires! That might be a little harder to expalin to his wife than why it's so hard to drive their E. Tough call either way!
