Any word on the BF Goodwrench Mud Terrain and the largest successful size?

designed to be the rock-climbing, mud-eating, and terrain-taming king. BFG MT description

The BFG TA KO should provide all the mud traction that an Element can safely handle. An MT category tire is not going add any clearance, and probably will do worse on the highway and on ice. Size considerations for an MT tire are the same as for any other; tread width might even be a greater concern on a tire with knobby shoulders.

Mud Terrains seem a bit much i think. I'm having a hard time finding info on BF Goodwrench All Terrains and the sizes that will fit the E with no rubbing.

So which is more likely to be successfull? 235/70/16 or 225/75/16? what are the biggest differences? pros? cons? Any advice would be appreciated........... after following thread after thread i cant find a clear answer.... Whew!!

The KO is available in the stock size, so it can be used without problem.

While Element owners have used 235/70/16 Bridgestone REVOs without problems, it appears that the KO is a bit wider in the tread/shoulders. At least one owner tried that size and thought it rubbed, so switched to 225/75/16. However his experience is no longer online, since it was on Hondaelement.org. This 75 profile tire is a bit taller, but apparently has a sufficiently narrower tread that fits with less chance of rubbing.

So if you do choose the KO, you have to decide whether to stick with the stock size, or try one of these larger ones. If my goal was to increase ground clearance as much as possible for driving on local backroads, I'd go ahead an try the 225/75/16 size. However, 'expedition' use (driving half way across the country, and then 50+ miles into the backcountry), I'd stick with the stock size, especially if I didn't also carry a full size spare.

Practically, all the larger size tire adds is a half inch or so of ground clearance. That may be enough when you are playing in some local off-road park. But it isn't going to matter if your goal is to safely cross some Colorado mountain pass.

p.s. here's a discussion of 'expedition tire' choices on another forum:

Do you realize you've combined two companies into one name?

BF Goodrich = Tire company
GM Goodwrench = General Motors Service Departments.

I would also advise against the mud terrains. I had teh BFG mud terrains on my old explorer, loud as hell going down the road. They hummed very loudly going down the road, worse on teh highway. They were great in the snow, but absolute crap on teh ice. or hard packed snow. I got rid of them and goot a set of the AT KOs. They really surprised me by how nice they rode, handling was great, and very low noise level.

mykrolabs, got my my BFG All Terrains in the stock size about a year ago. put on about 30k miles without a problem! for my money they were the best investment for my E! ride feels and looks much tougher stiffer and higher and much more offroad and trucklike. be aware though that these are not passenger car tires and carry the "LT" light truck designation for a reason! however they are great in the snow and bad weather and carry the "KO" designation for "severe weather" rating! if you can live with the harsher ride and increased noise (they howl quite a bit!) then i say go for it! heres a pic! enjoy! g-man 2003 SSM 4WD EX BFG's AT

I can't agree with this more. I had BFG MT on my first truck. They where great in the rain if the water was deep but sucked it you wanted to stop in the rain. They where unstoppable in the deep snow but horrid on ice and packed snow, which is what you dive on 90% of the time. They looked extremely cool though. My last truck had the BFG AT's on it. They where the great tires. They where very quiet till about 30k then they got loud. They where great on the road, in the rain, in the snow, in the mud, and in deep snow. They also wear extremely well (I had 65k on them when I sold my truck; there was at least another 15k in them).

What size did you put on your E?
