I have a new stereo in my Element and I do not like the harness that the installer used to mount the new radio in the dash. It is black in color (generic) and it does not seem to fit perfectly at the bottom. I think this is just a generic Honda kit. Anyone know where I can buy a replacement kit possibly that is the same gray color as the dash trim? Thanks.

I got what I assume was a generic mounting kit for a Honda at Circuit City. It's black with the little hole area under neath for stuff. Looks and fits fine, I think.

hrmm.. I may have the same one. Mine seems to fit flush with the dash on the sides up top but at the bottom it seems that the dash is narrow and sits on top of the edge of the pockets not on the sides like I would imagine would look better. I mean it is ok but I want perfect!

Rewire the entire car with larger guage audio wire. otherwise that harness is fine

I think you may have confused some people.

The harness is generally referred to as the wiring that connects the radio to the car's wiring.

The dash kit is generally referred to as the plastic mounting hardware that the actual radio sits in and trims out the dash.

The latter is what I assume you are referring to.

AFAIK the aftermarket kits are all black, one piece, and have a built in molded pocket. Honda does not make this. These kits typically fit perfectly with no gaps around the top, bottom or sides of where the radio meets the kit or where the kit meets the dash.

Sometimes though installers do not have these kits in stock so they mash up a custom one using a honda specific single din top for the radio with a pocket for the bottom. Sometimes the installer does good custom work and other times it looks hack. It sounds like this might be what happened to you.

Hope this helps.

santropez, go buy some grey spraypaint, take out the bracket, paint it, put it back in. Can't help with the fit issue.
