We had the fiance's Accord in for an oil change and a maint request today at Schaumburg Honda and had about an hour 1/2 to kill, so I told the sales guy my intentions for when and what to buy and that I'd like to drive an E cuz aside from driving it I'm pretty much sold on the usablity of it.

It was a EX auto that we drove.

I wanted to drive a 5 speed, but I got the general gist of the car in the auto (the 5 speeds were burried in the other long term lot).

Overall I liked the ride of it. I wasn't quite sure what I was expecting (maybe I am too used to sporty cars and their ride/noise/performance) but I was disappointed in a weird way. Maybe I expected a bit more torue from the rather large 2.4L. But after a minute of driving it, I felt at ease in the car.

I am a spaz behind the wheel admittedly, so I think a car like this will help me calm down on the road.

Still have about 8-10 months until we'll be ready to buy, so I've got time still, but I think I'm 75% sure we'll get an Element next year. . .

I think you'll find the 5-speed more to your liking. I haven't actually driven an automatic, but I find my 5-speed pretty zippy.

Agreed. The torque of the engine is masked by the gearing of the Automatic. The manual shifts quite smooth considering it's a cable linkage from the dashboard.

My first drive of the E was a real eye opener. My impression before my first test drive was that this was a girl car with no sporting and/or rugged intension. plus i was under the distinct impression that I would not fit in it and it was to small for hauling anything. One drive and i was sold.

I was meaning to ask about that - the 5 speeds I mean - I haven't had a 5 speed since my first Honda (85 Civic Wagon 4wd)...that one had a drive BELT rather than a drive chain, and I ended up having the clutch replaced on it, and then at 70K miles the drive belt broke...dead honda...(no one told me I had to have the drive belt replaced around 60K??? - so much for service at THAT time). I'm glad things have improved so much, but I was wondering how the 5 speed handles.....

I love my E - I'd been toying with the idea of a new/different vehicle, until I joined the EOC....now I've decided for certain that I will buy another E when the time comes....YEAH!!!! (just hope they get more colors - would love a lavendar <GRIN>) HINT HINT - HONDA!!!
