Still looking for a Honda key that that can survive being immursed in water at depths up to 130 ft for long periods of time.
Does anyone know if any exist?
I guess even if there was a Key blank that did not have the chip installed ,but would still open the door would be fine as I could hide the ignition key inside the E, but the only Honda blank I can find is the expensive Programmable type.

The locking gas caps come with Honda keys, so there must be some relatively inexpensive blanks out there without the chips.

I tried the dealership and they only have chip blanks. I tried a local locksmith and they said their machine won't cut that style.

Check with your local dealers...when the new key cutting machines were sent out to dealers some test blanks were shipped out so the dealers could train staff on how to use the machine....Keep calling different lock smiths......some one is bound to have thje blanks.

Maybe this is a dumb idea, but since you are willing to use a non-chip key just to open the door (and I assume you would stash a real key inside somewhere), why not just use the 'valet' key to do your diving? Sure, it may eventually ruin the embedded chip, but so what? You have two full service keys anyway. You just end up making it a door-only key. A valet key is silly anyway. It only keeps the valet from getting into those tiny plastic glove boxes. (Just don't lock your real key in there!)

I went surfing with the valet key yesterday for about 2 hours. The key is in a pocket on the interior of my wetsuit. Granted it's not a 130 ft submersion, but no problems with it getting good and wet.

I didn't know about the chips until I went to transfer the insurance from my old vehicle to the E and she asked if it had any theft prevention devices. I wasn't sure, so looked in the owner's and sure enough found out about the key.
I ride a standup jetski and do freestyle on it, so nowhere to keep a key dry, so I'm also searching for an alternative to sticking the key inside the fuel door.
I used to be a dive instructor in Hawaii and always just threw my keyring inside my bcd pocket. I bought a stainless keyring and stainless chain just for that purpose, and still use them. I'm thinking you could get a small waterproof bag to put the key in and be fine. 130ft is ~57psi, I would imagine the key can physically handle that, but the bag would have to be able to handle it. Just make sure there is enough air inside that when it compresses to 1/5 it's original side it will still have some air for a cushion.
My problem is finding a bag small enough to fit in my key pocket inside my shorts.

Is there any proof the key isn't waterproof? It might be vulnerable to the changes in ATM when going to depth, but as for surfing, the key is perfectly fine. I've done it a bunch of times with no harmful effects. The dealer even said it was okay. Now leaving it in the water for long periods of time or over the long haul has its effect on any metal.

I just had a key cut at the dealer. It cost $40 for the key, the cut and programing. The programing is done by the key cutting machine.

Can't vouch for diving but the key seemed to handle being washed in the pocket of my jeans just fine
