: Honda ipod adapter vs Belkin??

I was looking at the accessories and noticed that Honda now has an ipod adapter. I find it interesting that it still will not show the song titles on the radio and the only added feature over my setup with the belkin is it will let you supposedly click through songs using the steering wheel controls.
I can change the volume using my steering wheel controls but not jump through songs.

Plus the honda adapter is really expensive in comparisson and it does not work with my Gen3 ipod only the newer video ones.

Does anyone have this Honda ipod adapter and can shed some experience using it?

There has been limited experience on this board with the Honda adaper but none of it has been glowingly positive. Some people like it for the complete integration. Others are more annoyed by its limitations.

My question is why doesn't the Belkin allow you to adjust the deck using the steering wheel volume controls? Can you adjust volume on the other sources? What makes the CD changer input, which is what the Belkin connects into, so different? If you had a changer attached, its volume should be adjusted by those controls. Why can't an iPod?

The Honda Musiclink "sucks canel water at a high rate." The interface is great if you listen to your iPod on shuffle. Then you don't need to see what you're selecting. If you want to pick the song/artist/album/playlist you want to listen to good luck. It first needs to have SW run on your computer and it builds up audio menus for the iPod and puts the items into iTunes for the next sync.

Then you have to pick a 'disc' number to decide how you are choosing (album/song/artist...) and listen to the digital voice say "A, B, C ..." then you have to push a button on the headend unit to select that letter. Then in theory it plays the voice saying the item info. (It seems to work randomly for me) You then push the headend button again to select that song.

So while it's possible to actually use this interface no-one with UI experience ever got to look at this system before they built it.

I've gone so far to 'fix this' that I bought a 1G nano and just put the current book I'm listening to on the nano. Then I don't have to worry about the Musiclink deciding it's in random mode (no indication it's in random/shuffle) and screwing up the book order.

Play+drive from HK is a much nicer interface but I'm on my second one now. It's just not a very well build unit...which is too bad. So I'm still trying to figure out the real solution.

Gregg, the Belkin doesn't plug into the CD changer in the back of the HU. It connects to the MP3 port above the glovebox. MTP installed the steering wheel controls from a Pilot and all he can do is raise/lower the volume on the iPod because that's all that can be controlled on the MP3 port.

D'oh!

I knew all of this.

That's what I get for answering a question after four days of hardcore rock 'n' roll partying. I should take a day to come back to Earth before I try to be smart.

Make that two days.

There seem to be (at least) 2 Belkin options. The Auto adapter kit (Belkin p/n F8V7058-APL) (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=201526&pcount=&Product_Id=149006#) and the Mobile adapter (Belkin p/n F8V7067-APL) (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=164964).

Comments on each/either??

I have used the Belkin auto adapter since December 2004 and have been very satisfied with it. I even picked up a second one through ebay in the US for $5.00 for use in my other car (thanks again Larry!).

I ask because the "mobile" adapter is 1/2 the price of the "auto" adapter....

The auto adapter is what I have.
I custom mounted the Belkin behind the sub-woofer, well really I custom installed a 12V adapter behind the woofer and the Belkin plugs into it.

Yeah, my Pilot wheel controls does the volume just fine.
Love the controls.

rjenson -

not even sure what you are trying to describe. I know how an ipod works and how to get music to it.
Not sure I follow what you are talking about with the talking.
The stereo talks back to you when you select music off the ipod??
