Hi there - I'm looking for cool car camping places anywhere in SoCal (although with this heat, I'll stick to the coasts) where my dog can come too. Any advice? Thanks!

I hear there are some nice campgrounds right on the ocean near Pt. Magu (spelling?). My neighbors go there serval times a year.

I like the Huntington Beach Dog Beach on the water off Coast Highway just north of Golden West, but I don't know of any campgrounds in that area. It is maybe a half to one mile long. No leashes required!

Quigly loves it there :D

Haven't been there but been eyeing it.

This site lists Leo Carillo state beach as dog friendly.

We have taken our pups to Leo Carillo a couple of times. It's nice. There isn't that much to say about it. The last couple of times we have gone, we had to leave b/c it was too windy and the sand hurt. The dogs love it, though.

In Santa Barbara there is a BEAUTIFUL dog beach. The name escapes me right now. I am sure it could be found with some research, since dog beaches aren't TOO common. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. We take guests there when they come to visit and no one minds 1.5 hour drive.

WE LOVE Leo. My wife and I both grew up camping there. We live in Thousand Oaks.

Thornehill Broom is ok too but it just a bunch of sand.

I would recommmend Leo Carillo all the way.

Call each park to confirm they allow dogs before you go. We just got back from camping the CA central coast, and found that anywhere that is a "state beach" is now off limits to dogs. Morro Strand used to be dog friendly, but no more. CA needs to back off on its anti-dog policies!

You were real close to doggie beach heaven. Just a few clicks up PCH from Morro Bay is San Simeon State Park. One of the best beaches on the coast "William Randolph Hearst Memorial Beach" is nearby. We camped there in July and at the beach every other person there had a dog. I mean there were dogs everywhere. We had a great time. So did all the dogs.
