OK, I just picked up an older CDX-C90 ES deck, and now I need to pair it up with an older (pre XPlod'ing crap) ES CD Changer, since the prices on these things are pretty good used, I might as well pick one up. What is considered to be the best changer of all time from the Sony ES line? with digital output. I did see a few CDX-838's on ebay, which is an ES unit with the ugly Xplod logo on it (must be the change over point), but it has the optical output. I am leary of that XPlod name though since it represents something totally different than what the ES line was.
Is the 838 a good unit to get, or what are some other high end models from back then that I should consider? Sony made tons of changers and it is so dam confusing to pick and choose.
Thanks,
Shane

My knowledge of Sony ES pieces was one of admiration but didn't go much further. I never sold them so I don't think I can help you here. Somebody else probaby can.

I have an 805 (with digital out) that I can part with...I have all of the parts for it too (need to supply your own Digi out cable).
I had a setup w/ a C910 headunit and the full size XDP-766EQ Equalizer in my ITR. If you're interested in that too, let me know.
In the time I had it installed, it never once skipped. The headunit/changer/EQ combo were all ES models and were definitely top of the line for their time.
Make an offer and we can go from there :)
Also, this is NOT an Xplod line. This is the good stuff from prior to that, true ES line. I only used the good stuff in my car. I believe the C90 was the first model after my C910 (if it's lighted blue then it is the one I'm thinking of).

Typer98,
I PM'ed you about the changer, I forgot to ask you what year is it from, should be a date code on the tag.
Yes the C90 is the one with blue lighting (love the clean professional look)
Thanks anyway about the DSP EQ, I just picked up an xdp-210eq, it's a hideaway box that has 21 band EQ, time alignment (basic what seat are you in kind), and a really good xover network. Would love to get the 4000x but they are expensive even on ebay if you couls find one. It has a serial port to connect to your laptop and the control is out of this world from what i hear.

Manufacture date is Feb 1997. It's in pretty good shape and hasn't been used in at least 4 years. It was working when I took it out of my Integra.
As far as the EQ goes, this one does the same as the one you have, just that this isn't the hideaway module. It gives you all of the same controls but it's a full DIN unit that can be mounted in conjunction w/ the HU for heads up controls...
If you give me an email address, I can send you pics I took of the changer.
