: How much should I pay for Sirius???
dancetiludrop 07-25-2006, 10:09 PM I know you can get XM for $77/yr. but what can you get Sirius for?
I've called twice and they won't budge on the $12/mo. I've seen they have a lifetime for $499, but that's a big commitment. I'd like to get one year for a good price first to see how it is.
Anyone have a good price or a way to get it for a good price??
Big Fig 07-25-2006, 10:17 PM I don't know of any specials but except by going the year route and even that is a minimal discount. BUt I will say that I love Sirius so much that I don't mind the $12.95 a month at all.
dancetiludrop 07-25-2006, 10:22 PM I really think that's crappy    for sirius to do that when you can get XM for $77.
I think they'll loose some "sirius" business not matching prices

Genom 07-25-2006, 11:41 PM The Sirius monthly rate doesn't seem to be scaring off new subscribers judging by a number of articles lately.
I'll admit that I have listened to a limited amount of XM (mostly in restaurants) and while I like what I heard, the "giveaway" price of $77/year seems like they're really trying to keep subscribers who are either just not interested anymore or switching to Sirius.
Lets remove O&A and Howard for a moment (There will be no pissing matches about the two in this thread) and look at the overall content and pricing...it really begins to look like a "get what you pay for" comparison between the two. Have you taken a look at the programming of the two to see which one has more of what you're looking for? That really should be the deciding factor and not price.
I pay the price for Sirius since it has more of what I want out of satellite radio.
I don't think there is a way to get a good price out of Sirius, they don't seem to have a need to cut their rates to keep or entice people to subscribe to begin with.
ShotOnce 07-25-2006, 11:52 PM I got an XM post card, but no $77/year deal. They offered 3 months at a discounted rate. I would have been tempted, but since upgrading to Sirius I have no desire. I went with the Sirius lifetime deal, I figure it would be worth it, assuming their satellites don't come falling out of the sky.
Johnny-Pants 07-26-2006, 08:55 AM I don't think Sirius has any deals except for the yearly and lifetime ones. I tried the old " I want to cancel and go to XM " ploy with their customer service and all I got was "okay, sorry to hear that" Then I had to do some back talking to have them keep it on.
In my opinion it is really worth $12.95 a month anyway. I use it in the house and car all the time so I feel I really get my moneys worth. Never hurts to try and get a better deal though
Man, I still remember when Sirius was offering a lifetime for $399...oh well.

dancetiludrop 07-26-2006, 07:24 PM Yeah what he said....

You're not comparing the prices fairly. That $77/yr price is only if you can convince someone at XM that you want to cancel your current subscription... if you are a new customer I don't believe that price is available to you. Right now Sirius has no reason to offer a $77/yr type of pricing plan to retain customers, they aren't losing enough to justify it... XM is.
The XM and Sirius pricing for new users is basically the same.
XM Pricing Plans
http://www.xmradio.com/images/service_subscription/new_myp_box.gif
Radios 2-5 @$6.99 each per month
Sirius Pricing Plans
1 Year $142.95 with 1 month free
2 Years $271.95 with 3 months free
Lifetime $499.99
Radios 2-4 @$6.99 each per month
As you can see the pricing is exactly the same. It really comes down to content, the radios themselves and how each companies signal is where you live and where you travel to.
ShaneS 07-26-2006, 08:52 PM Every once in a while, Sirius will offer a $50.00 rebate on select radios. This is what I did last year.
bofus 07-27-2006, 06:48 PM Sirius with my Chrysler 300 was "free" for 1 year. XM should have had the same deal for new car owners.
Regards,
Edit: Yes, there is no "free" lunch...
outpost4 07-27-2006, 09:06 PM All Chrysler did was price in a year of Sirius with the car. I can guarantee you the piper is being paid somehow.
DrumminChick 07-27-2006, 09:22 PM All I know is... I've listened to XM more than a few times and was never impressed. I just got Sirius this week in my E and I can't get enough of it. XM is not as good as Sirius in my opinion... but to each their own. I say go with Sirius, you won't be disappointed.

Yup, Mercury has done the same thing. Seems to be that is the way some manufacturers are going to be heading. It makes sense, the cost is hidden for 1-3 years, probably at a discount to the manufacturer directly from Sirius.
