: What do you do for a living?
Honda made this vehicle for the 20 some odd year olds just out of college, and looking for work.
I just put a sample of some jobs up, so if you are not listed, please reply, let's see where else Honda went wrong.
1manparty 02-19-2003, 08:47 AM I am a full time drafter, and a reservist in the military. Not sure how Honda thinks generation y can afford a new car with out working! :?
ibutchman 02-19-2003, 03:29 PM I didn't vote because I don't know where I place on the list.
I'm a Gardener/Property Maintenance for a private residence.
isketerol 02-19-2003, 06:17 PM Ibutchman, I would classify you in the "blue-collar" for this survey - it's the closest to your job decsription. Or maybe we should have a classification for "Green Thiumb"?
Sounds like a nice job. :D
Iskie
ibutchman 02-19-2003, 06:36 PM I'm a Gardener. Can I have a "green collar?"
I'll vote blue collar, even though I like to think of myself as a
"Light Blue Collar" :? :) with swirls of blueberry
Thanks Iskie :)
Alien Element 02-19-2003, 10:05 PM I'm a surveillance and counter-intelligence specialist (non-military) - and, yes, "Big Brother" is watching you...
BTW, does "Home run business" mean baseball player???
Alien Element,
It could be. Could be a manager, or club owner as well.
Where does being a nurse fit in??? I'm technically a professional, I guess, due to the fact that I need a degree to do my job. Yet I work my tail off and I basically (more or less) follow someone elses orders when I do my job. And then all my scrubs are multicolored...that way, when someone throws-up on me, it doesn't show. I guess I'm techni-colored collar.
isketerol 02-20-2003, 04:33 PM If we're voting ourselves special collars, I want the rainbow-coloured collar. ;-)
Iskie
I am a librarian. White collar, I don't own one.

ibutchman 02-20-2003, 09:42 PM Iskie, why does your post say "guest?" Aren't you a member yet?
isketerol 02-21-2003, 05:51 AM I have a habit of not logging in when I first browse, thereby some posts show up as "guest".

burnt-O 02-22-2003, 05:23 PM remf, I'm a physical therapist, which is close to nursing and I chose professional. In college my professor would always say, "you're all going to be professionals" and that stuck in my head. I guess that's why I love the E's seats-nice and firm for the spine!
Anonymous 03-01-2003, 04:53 PM I work at NASA as a software engineer. I work in computer simulation for astronaut training and engineering analysis.

rodaniel 03-15-2003, 08:00 AM I'm the desktop management analyst at Medical Center Hospital (http://www.mchodessa.com) in Odessa, Texas. My wife is the lead education analyst responsible for developing and performing end-user software training. She also develops databases and documentation for, and manages the content of, the hospital's intranet (internal, employee-only) web site.
We have a tidy little job security loop going here - I build computers and she teaches people how to break 'em. :D

I'm sort of listed up there (I did vote for professional) and sort of not.
I am an attorney but I no longer actively practice law. I am getting my Masters in Library and Information Science, currently at the University of North Texas, but I hope to transfer to the University of Washington. And with the transfer would come a relocation to the Washington state area. I can't wait.
Then I'll be a different sort of professional - law librarian.
Now I know what you're thinking - librarian, bun, glasses, dusty books and "Shhhh!" right?
This librarian has tattoos, short red hair, considers herself a very 21st century information professional, doesn't care if you Shhhh! and is soon to drive THE funkiest Honda E on the road.
But I do wear glasses.
isketerol 04-26-2003, 08:15 AM I have my MLIS as well. I do have glasses. some gray hair, and well the buns aren't quite tight any more. Despite that, I haven't worked in the library field for a long time.
I hope you do well as a law librarian.

Nanook 04-28-2004, 04:09 AM I am a freelance production coordinator who works in tv commercials. The coordinator assists the production manager (usually the first credit you see at the end of a movie: Unit Production Manager) who assists the producer. I am basically an overpaid secretary. ;)
The best part of my job is working in different locations all the time. You have probably seen the Gillette Venus Divine ladies' razor commercial playing all over the place. You know, with Bananarama's "I'm Your Venus" playing while models play in blue swimsuits? I got to go down to Chiapas in southern Mexico for two weeks and wade through the extraordinary Agua Azul waterfall. Not to mention hang with models... ;)
Before you get too jealous, my average work day is 11-12 hours, with my longest being 26 hours straight. And production people in commercials are the only crew members who don't get overtime. :(
Fixxy 04-29-2004, 05:54 PM I have an M.A. in Informatics from The State University of New York at Buffalo. I recently got my first grown up real job a few months back. Yes, I actually am the Element's target demographic! I am currently working as a project manager at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. I am very happy to be working amongst a very driven and intelligent team of individuals. I may go back to UB to snag my Ph.D., but the position of "student" doesn't pay nearly enough to make my monthly payment to Honda of America Finance Corp. And I love my E way too much to loose it, so I guess I'll just keep on keepin' on.
Vocal Music Teacher, public school, grades 1-5. I see about 1,100 students a week. Not all at the same time. YIKES! The classroom teachers have a prep while I have their classes for music. I see each class for 45 mins. once a week. Class size ranges between 30 and 40. Up side: I get paid for singing with kids. Down side: use your imagination.
Degrees:
B. M. (Always thought this was funny. Translation = Bachelor of Music)
M. Div. (a Masters degree in Theology).
Got my E 4/14. I'm really enjoying it.

Anyway, that was all before my voice changed. :)

brendan,
I’ve been a member for less than a month. I want to tell you how much I have enjoyed this site and YOUR COMMENTS - fun and helpful or helpful and fun... depends.
Also, isn’t it amazing that you still remember your SOLO? I would say it’s probably part of the “upside”. And you still enjoy music (ref. your guitar collection). It is good to be reminded of the impressions we leave on others. You never know exactly what will make that impression. It’s amazing.
So, thanks for sharing that story.
(That voice change thing did a lot of us in.)
Greg
Edison 05-01-2004, 06:53 AM I remember MY first solo, too -- "7th Son of a 7th Son" in Jack and The Bean Stalk. I was the guy who sold poor Jack some lousy "magic" beens. Great fun! I still can see my Mom and Dad in the audience grinning. And I also remember how embarrassed I was to have to wear tights! Luckily, my voice changed too...WHEW! :D
P.S. Brendan IS special, gad, but don't let on... he's shy!
8)
Edsion,
Thanks for sharing your solo story. "Tights" . . . Yikes! "You're a better man than I . . . " I've done my share of solos but never in tights (the laughter would have drown out my singing)
Thanks again for the story.

 just re-read my post and your reply. Sorry. I just realized that the "tights ... better man" comment could be taken another way. And not the way I intended. In the "spirit of sharing" part 2, I was the overweight (fat) geek with black plastic glasses (but without the tape in the middle holding them together). I had a nice voice, but just thinking of myself, back then, and in tights . . . I'll stop now.
Again, the  is mine.

wastedonanime 03-05-2008, 01:07 AM Hmm... we'll: I'm the original target. College graduate first job early (soon to start) mid-20's male.
Where they went wrong: I had my eyes on the Scion xB, not the Element. The xB was my ideal vehicle given all aspects. Start cheap and work my way up with all the funky junk. It was a win-win for me given my nature (look what I did to the Element...) and what Scion was and still is advertising.
Where they went right but still wrong: it appealed to my parents (late 40's) who ultimately picked out and purchased the Element for me. Their claim was it would be a great vehicle for this time in my life with frequent moving, etc. (Translation) "We got you one because we want to use it to get stuff from home depot on a regular basis."
I do have to admit though, it was my 17th choice, but I love it none-the-less. I'll drive it until it dies or 8 years from now. Whatever happens first. // Voted as a student. Heading back to grad school come fall and technically I'm enrolled in one class right now. : )~
tangerine07lx 03-05-2008, 06:30 PM im a little young for their target, i was 18 when i bought my E with money i saved up over 3 1/2 years of working various entry leval jobs in high school. im now 19 and in college, and 13k miles later i still like my e as much as i did when i drove it off the lot brand new.

I used to do a lot of PCR as well as biochemical tests for veterinary pathogens. I prefer bacti to molecular. However bacti is on its way out and more and more molecular tests are taking over. It'll be years before it becomes archaic, but I'm pretty sure it will.

well it was cool at first.. MONEY! ... eff it. I'll work for the rest of the crap like 'normal' people. So I decided to open savings accounts for all 6 of my nieces and nephews and my 2 little brothers in the full amount of what it cost me to go to college. By the time their 18, It should be worth a $h*tton more and then what was left over I'd use for some toys for me and pay off my college loans.... that was my thought. Then people in the family got pissed because cousins were mad I didnt pay for their kids.. and my siblings wanted more incase they had more kids...
With that said, it f***ed me off and I closed down all the accounts except for my 2 younger brothers. Gave my older bro a cut and paid off my loans. Got the Lotus and some other toys and built a house... all out of spite. Now the rest is going to opening the business.. maybe. It caused me more sleepless nights having the extra cash than when I was worried how I'm going to pay for school

I've heard that same thing from other people who came into money. In the end, it's your money to do with as you please, stingy or generous, benevolent or tyrannical, with or without giving reasons. I agree though it would suck, but kudos for not caving into the whining. It's sad to say, but people are generally greedy whiny b@stards who would rather spend all their time whining for $.50 than working honestly for $10...
But I digress. What color's the Lotus? A friend of mine drives a British Racing Green '07 Elise and loves it :D

Take a peak.. It'll take me a second to think of the technical color name though.

Mo' money . . . mo' problems, right? Sometimes I'm truly happy I don't have any ;-)
It's amazing what money does to some people and I'm sorry your family has acted this way toward you! You were attempting to do a wonderful thing for them; I hope you are able to work out your differences.
You seem to have your priorities pretty straight, and you're single? Hey any single ladies out there??? :D

gabelement 07-29-2008, 08:10 PM .. I'm sure that would provoke a good ass kicking. Another one would be walking through Compton with a t-shirt that says "I hate gang members"
