I saw this in the parking lot when I returned to my car after hiking to Lake Sylvia in California's Desolation Wilderness: a brand-new Ferrari 355 F1 GTS. Definitely the first time I've ever seen a Ferrari parked at a trailhead!

That is pretty cool. I have never really thought that a Ferrari owner would care all that much about getting back to nature. Cool.:)

I've been to Lake Sylvia. It's a beautiful lake right at tree line if I remember right. We camped the night there. I worked for three summers at Fallen Leaf Lake on the other side of the Desolation Wilderness Area. A buddy and I took a few days off, hiked up Pyramid Peak and then down to Lake Sylvia and eventually came out at Emerald Bay. Those were the days you could hitch-hike back to Fallen Leaf both safely and reasonably fast. We didn't have a Ferrari.

I dunno guys... back in "the day", we'd park my 308 at trailheads. It prob'ly elicited similar reactions.

Yeah, same lake. That must have been a pretty epic circuit you did back then. It's about 1,700 feet up just from the lake to Pyramid Peak (highest peak in Desolation, btw), with a fair amount of climbing between there and Emerald Bay, too.

We have been to the lake, but did it the hard way - taking the trail up adjacent to Horse Tail Falls, off Highway 50.

*VERY* cool area if you like backpacking.

We didn't have a Ferrari either, just a '91 Honda Civic.

The mountain is also a couple of thousand feet above Lake Aloha on Pyramid Peak's east side, which was our pathway in. We actually climbed Pyramid Peak twice. Once the first day - which was a long hike - when we ended up at Lake Sylvia. We then got up with the first light and climbed Pyramid Peak again so we could drop acid on its summit and watch the sunrise. Hey, this was the mid 70s. What can I say? :D

After canoeing last summer, we watched a guy load his kayak onto a home-made (but very simple and well-crafted) rack on his Mercedes 500SL, top down. I talked to him for a few minutes - this was his fifth convertible (didn't ask which makes) and he's always fashioned a rack that he can use top up or down. Nice guy. He drove off still shirtless.

well, much better than "Strange TRAIL Sighting" with the same picture.

i see tons of high end cars at our trail heads in the Hamptons, and North Shore of Long Island. there are some outdoors minded richies out there. they just like their toys. lol.
