Hey guys, my mom has a 2004 VW Beetle and for some reason her electronic immobilizer light is flashing and her car wont start. The manual says that the car is having a problem recognizing the key because it is a faulty key or something. She used the key to abck the car out of the garage, turned the beetle off, and when she went to turn it back on, just a lot of clicking, no start. I tried jumping it, no dice. Also since the engine bay is so compact I cant really get to the negative batery post to remove it.

My question is does anyone know whats up or how to fix this? My mom has the same set of keys she has always had btw.

Thanks.

P.S. I couldnt find any helpful beetle forums...I gues not every forum is an EOC.

She didn't add another key to her chain, did she? Other keys might be trying to respond to the transponder.

First thing I'd do is try another key - bare key only - the "extra" key or even the valet key. If those are not recognized, then it's dealer time - its memory has been wiped of all the key codes.

The site you need is www.uk-mkivs.net :). It is a British site that will have the most and best information. It's also a lot of fun and I think they'll remind you a bit of here. I haven't been on there since I got rid of my VW though. The site you want to avoid is vwvortex, it is a typical horror story you hear about when people here talk about other sites.

The VW dealer isn't usually very helpful unless it comes to lightening your wallet. VW makes their vehicles purposely with this in mind. They don't even want you changing your own headlight bulbs if they can help it. The guys at uk-mkivs will change that for you.

Woke up and found out my Dad jumped my moms car to take it to the dealer. Faulty battery....typical VW electrical issues, or so I have read.
