I'm sure Nokian owners will pipe up on this topic.

BFG T/A KOs are another option - they are AT category tires, with a 'snow flake on mountain' severe weather rating.

GY Fortera TripleTreds, which I discussed recently, also have this snowflake rating.

based on the circumstances you mention, I would opt for the Nokian WR:

http://www.nokiantyres.com/suv_product_en?product=610502&name=NOKIAN+WR+SUV

(I'm not a Nokian owner on my "E")

Bridgestone dueler's AT revo's. Fills out the wheel wells a little more, but is the best set of tires i have ever bought. If you think these are ever going to touch snow, or deep mud--- then these are for you. And they arent shabby on the road either. They are also the longest wearing tire i ever had. That's just my 2 cents

Another vote for the Nokian WR tires. They aren't snow tires but do fairly well in snow.

Of course, anything is better than the OEM Wranglers!!

BFG ALL TERRAIN KO's!!! Hands down the best snow tire and all year capable tire. proven over many years and now with the KO it has a 3 ply sidewall compared to most other tires with only 2. It also has a rim guard around the bead to protect your rim from curbing or rocks and such. I have had them on 5 of my vehicles and love 'em. They can run a higher than needed pressure too which is good insurance because of the extra load rating for if lowering the pressure down below recommended is what you really need for more traction/footprint on the ground it will never be taxing the tires overall strength. I run 225/75 r16's and they work awesome. The slightly larger diameter also has seemed to change the shift points of the tranny (auto) and now it holds a lower gear a little longer and revs a little higher, makes sense due to the extra effort to turn a larger and heavier tire, and it pulls better up hills than the stockers! Those of you with larger than stock O.D. tires and auto's know what I mean.

The Goodyear Fortera Triple Treads in size P235/70/16 seem to get good reviews. Has anybody tried the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor in P235/70/16?

I have the BFG LT235/70/16 KOs on my department Ford Escape and they ride just fine even aired up to 50 pounds (I had four flats in one day before I put the BFGs on). Has anybody had any experience with the BFG LT235/70/16 on the Element?

I use my Yokohama Geolanders all year long and they work great in snow, rain or dry pavement. I have never owned a tire on any car that I really thought was a wonderful tire and these are wonderful tires. A little tougher to find, they are well worth the effort. I got mine at Tires Plus. I had to talk them down to coming close to matching a price off of www.tirerack.com.

There was at least one reported case of rubbing with this size (on Hondaelement.org). These tires have very square shoulders. That person had success with the taller, but narrower 225/75/16 size. But, those tires are now available in the stock size.

I wouldn't go larger than stock in this type of tire unless I could carry a matching spare. Apart from style, the only advantage of a larger tire like this is a bit of added ground clearance. I'd need such clearance only if I were driving well away from civilization.

These, to me, would be the ideal size for the Element if only they came in load range C.

Many suv tires are available with black letters on one side, and white letters (or white outline) on the other side. You choose which side you want when they are mounted. (You don't have this choice if the tire is a directional one, i.e. with arrowhead shaped grooves).

I have had 4 sets of the BFG A/Ts on 3 previous pickups. They are a great TRUCK tire. I say that because they are very heavy.
It takes alot of effort to get those tires rolling and I would not subject my E's driveline to that.
I also did not find them to be superior in the snow. They have a fairly wide lug tread with parallel sipes- designed as a compromise between mud, road and snow use, they are competent in all categories but do not excel in any.

I love 'em, but not on the E !!!!

Michelin Cross Terrain SUV -- they were a dream when we had a big storm last winter. Took me right up a friend's very steep driveway with two tight turns. Not to mention safely 14 miles out the GW Parkway and virtually untrammeled backroads.

The snow in these pics was untouched until the E plowed through. Fond memory.

from my past experience one of the best snow tires I have ever used are Blizzaks. They are the closest thing to "suction cups" on ice and snow. I have used them on my subbie AWD and plan to use them on my new Element!
Be aware ! they are strickly winter tires and are composed of a soft compound so they will wear quickly if used for other than winter driving but your safety is of prime importance when driving in inclement weather and these tires are one of the best out there!

According to the spec tables (on Tirerack) the KOs in stock size are 35 lb, compared to 25 for HPs. But popular Revos in slightly larger 235/70/16 are also 35, while GY Tripletreds in stock size are 30. So, yes, these BFG tires are heavier than stock, but they are not much heavier than ones that other Element owners have be happy with. I suspect the weight will affect gas mileage more than vehicle life.

As to tread, I agree that they are a compromize, but that is true for most tires in the AT category.

There is a distinction to be made between an "LT" designation and a "P"-metric designation.

LT has a higher load rating, additional plys, and increased weight/stiffness.

Something to keep in mind.

I have the Dueler AT Revos's on my 89 Nissan Truck and I agree, they are awesome tires. I have had them in rain storms, deep snow, off-road and they are great. :D

When I purchased my 2006 "E" I noticed right away that the stock tires sucked. With 400 miles on the new stock tires, I purchased the Goodyear Fortera Tripletread's. These tires are unbelievable. :D My only complaint with them is that they seem to grab and hold rocks within the treads a little much.

I loved the Revo's so much that I wanted to purchase them for my "E" however they do not offer the tire in the stock size.

Bridgestone Allenza Dualer H/L's and they are wonderful in the snow, wet and dry! Honda need to rid the element of those Wrangers.

Yes you can get them in all Black. They are black on one side and raised white letters on the other.

Here are some pictures of my E on BFG 225/75/16 All Terrain T/A KOs

I love them. Traction in everything from wet, dry, snow, ice, mud....

Has been outstanding. My E will wear em till they don't make them anymore. :)

Just not enough piping up by Nokian fans....

I put in my vote for Nokian WR SUV tires.
Best ALL-weather tire I have ever owned. The only problem is they have spoiled me for driving anything else and they are a bit pricey.
Tire Factory is the only place that carries them locally.

Yes, Blizzaks may work slightly better on ice, but the Blizzaks won't last 40k miles either........
