Ok Guys.....several of you have expressed an interest in taking a fall ride on the Natchez Trace this year. I am willing to initiate this outing if there is a real interest in meeting up. The Weekend that I am available would be Saturday the 28th. If the trend follows the last couple of falls here, that should be a good time for fall foliage viewing. Here is what I am thinking, this is definately up to discussion:

Meetup & Ride a reasonable portion of the Natchez Trace:

Meeting place: Loveless Cafe - State Route 100 and the NATCHEZ TRACE
Meeting Time: 8:00 a.m.-ish???

MAP (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=loveless+cafe+nashville+tennessee&ie=UTF8&latlng=36034819,-86971615,5449843551679988878)

Plan: Have Breakfast at the Loveless and then head out on the Natchez Trace (at around 9:00 a.m.). Ride for approximately 2 to 3 hours along the trace to the Tennessee-Alabama state line (near Florence Alabama). Break for lunch either riding into Florence or eating at one of the picnic areas on the trace. From that point, it is not a bad drive to Shiloh National Millitary Park in Savannah, TN. We could visit Shiloh and then return to Nashville along the trace. Another option would be to travel on to Tupelo, Ms that would be another 2 hours along the trace.

Anyone interested in attending this event, please chime in.

Who's ready for a South-East (now MID-SOUTH) Meetup???

There's a porch swing in Tupelo
In the shade of the south
Where the sweet honey drips offa that old hush yo mouth
It's a slow road on down
That old Natchez Trace
Through Alabama cotton fields to a state of grace

It's a crisp golden Autumn
On the Tennessee line
Rolling down to Mississippi like you's headed back in time
Town's closed on sunday
Everybody's in church
It's empty as the moon this place here on earth

And this place don't change
Some places move slow
I'm just rocking myself on this porch swing in Tupelo
I got nothing to do 'cept hang in the breeze
Ghosts of the old south all around me
Yea swing high , Yea swing low
Here on this porch swing in Tupelo

His momma musta loved him
That truck drivin' boy
With the grease monkey look and the roll 'n roll voice
Well I was just thinking 'bout him
'Cause I guess he sat here
Singing all praise to God through poverty's tears

Bernie Taupin

I know it has nothing to do with the "E" , But that is one good ride for anyone to enjoy!

Are you sure you want to drive the Natchez in an Element? Wait, did you say Natchez Trail, or Natchez Trace? :)

Here are a few pictures from the Washington Natchez, taken in May 2005.

I have never heard of the NACHES TRAIL.........the NATCHEZ TRACE is an historic route between Nashville and Natchez Mississippi....it is a FEDERAL PARK.

The Washington Naches Trail is not well known apart from off-road drivers and history buffs. Its use as a wagon trail dates back to 1853, though it was a foot trail across the Cascade Mountains long before that. It follows the Naches river up to Naches pass, crossing a bit north of Mt Rainier. I have found references to an original spelling of Natchez. There are a number of places and towns out west that were named after places back east.

Also, if you are on the south side of Nashville (Brentwood area) we might hook up for dinner or something on Friday night!

The cheaper option for recent college grads  Not to mention we're headed to PA on a nice roadtrip the 6 - 15 of the month, so we'll have to show off pictures, brag to my father-in-law about how well the element did (he loves the car - just trying to win him over now), etc.

I'm not planning a picnic......being a big guy myself, a picnic would exceed the load limit of the E.......we will eat somewhere along the way.....depends on how much distance we make in the time available.

I am doing a similar ride this weekend on my Burgman.....planning to ride to TUPELO and back......and I have a Hockey game at 7 p.m. I did not want to put that hard of a pace on our trip...we can ride till we get tired and look for a place to eat and then ride back.

Last weekend Sandy rode PILLION to Bill....I don't expect it to be a problem unless he/her gets car sick......does your wife like hanging out at the chinese place while you go on road trips?????

I'll bring the dog then - she travels well. The wife doesn't like chinese food restaraunts, but its better than dragging her with me, and her trying to navigate (she thinks she can read a map  )

Anywho, weekends almost here!! Can't wait for the drive! :D :D

Just arrived in Nashville - really looking forward to the drive tomorrow. We'll be at Loveless around 8am. The in-laws are going to take care of the dog so we don't ahve to worry about her while we eat.

On a side note - Ralph's Donuts at 6:30pm on a Friday = CHAOS. I walked away with 2, count em, 2 donuts...crazy senior citizens and their donuts on fridays....

TWO is the most I have had in quite some time!

See you in the morning!

Looks like it was a cool trip! I was hoping to at least make it out for the breakfast part of it, but I had to be back in town early for a Memory Walk (http://www.alz.org/memorywalk/overview.asp) at Centennial Park. It would've been cutting it too close.

Great weather for the ride though (even if it was a bit windy), eh? Thanks for posting the pics.

Nice pics, I was curious to see if the pics were from the Natchez end of the trace. I was going to detour down part of it near Jackson, MS last week but the rain never let up all the way thru East TX, LA, MS and part of the way thru AL :( Next day I was East of you in TN/NC and took this pic along the Ocoee River east of Cleveland, TN.

I drove West from Brevard,NC to Murphy last tuesday along hwy 64 thru the Nantahala NF. Very twisty windy but one of the most beautiful drives I've ever done. 2.5+ hours over 3 mountains to go 70 mi. It's got great scenery especially between Franklin & Brevard. There's several great waterfalls along the road thru the Cullaseja River Gorge. My digicam battery died but I did manage a few shots.
