: Removing, re-attaching aerial base

Has anybody removed the aerial and its base unit from the roof of their E?

The reason I ask this is I backed underneath something last night and it caught the antenna and forced it backwards until I heard a very loud "thunk" on the roof.

After getting out and seeing nothing I just thought it was the rubber antenna being bent back and snapping back into position on the roof.

In the warm light of day I realise I have done some damage. The base / antenna housing is slightly raised from the body work and I fear I may have stretched whatever keeps it attached to the roof.

Has anybody had cause to remove or re-attach the base and if so can they let me know what I need to do to check it from inside or re-attach it?

Failing that I will just run a careful amount of clear silicone around the base to stop any water ingress and live with wonky base. Thankfully most will not be able to see it. I'm 6'4" and I can only just see it.

Thanks in advance

I did search honest I did --- found this but no real answers

It's mentioned in that thread you listed that you will need to remove the plastic interior trim along that upper side directly under the antenna and get behind the headliner to access the ant. mount to see just what damage was done.

I know there have been a couple of people out there that have experienced this one, although I don't think I have ever seen a step by step on how to access the attachment points. Good luck, and if you do figure it out, post pics to help the them out.

I had the same accident. The garage door caught the antenna and pulled the base out of the roof. The Honda guys didn't seem to know how to set the base back in place. they suggested a body shop. The shop that does most of the dealers work is a customer of mine so I was able to get it in today. The headliner and interior trim had to come out to expose the attaching nut that holds the base down. The roof itself was also damaged so the Dent Wizard guy worked his magic and the repair was complete. So $100.00 later you would never know it happened. The repair was perfect. The dent guy is truly an artist. I consider it another lesson learned the hard way. The E is a bit tall.

Thanks for that Jshust,

I have had a quick look (opened up the headlining by where the sunroof is) yesterday. Only thing is I have huge hands with sausage fingers and though its easy to open some of the headlining, I don't fancy taking it all the way down to get my hand in (cue wife with dainty hands and painted nails).

Just have to figure out what size nut holds down the base, looks fairly large and there are just the 2 leads to it. Then get the dent in the roof flattened out and back on.

Seems simple enough............he says now at his laptop.

Mr. Sausage Fingers - jshust is right. Pay somebody else to do this. $100 is cheap for a lesson well learned. :)
