: rear suspension damage

I have managed to overload my rear suspension by carrying too many bricks, etc. Totally my fault. Happened to have alignment checked after buying new tires and was told that left rear components are damaged and causing camber to be out of spec. They recommended some sort of aftermarket parts to bring things back to spec. They said no real danger of excessive tire wear or handeling problems. I can actually see that top of tire leans in more than right side. I do not feel any difference in handling of vehicle.
I do have shop manual on order. Does anyone have any thoughts on what remedy I should try. Do nothing understanding my ground clearance is a tad less at rear. There is a potential problem I am not aware of. Or is it best to get back in spec and, in any event, go sin no more.

Is your E lower on the right side, or does it still sit even?

It seems to me that going with "aftermarket parts" as was suggested is only fixing a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself.

I'm assuming that your tire shop is planning on installing adjustable upper arms - totally unecessary if you plan to leave things stock.

It'll cost you more to have adjustable arms installed than if you were to buy two new rear strut assys and install them yourself when your manual arrives.

I'd bet all you need is one new right spring - that's where I'd start anyway.

Good luck.

I recently had my rear camber declared out of spec, as mentioned in this thread (http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27111). It could have been because of a heavy load but I suspect it is the way the car was put together. Both the left and the right rear cambers are off an identical amount, which I find suspicious. It also could be the alignment reading the shop took was incorrect. As suggested in the thread, it would be good to have another alignment test done.

I'm not doing anything about it. The car sits level. The rear wheels wear evenly. My E drives fine. In my case, to spend $4-500 to fix this makes no sense. Of course, your situation may be quite different.

Big thanx to OUTPOST4 and SPARMAN for input on my concerns. Looking foreward to arrival of manual. You all have helped me a great deal and are saving me a lot of coin. With manual, will remove and inspect struts etc.
I haven't measured, but I presume I am lower a bit on left rear as that tire/wheel is sloped in at the top more than right side.
Thanx again!!!

True camber on any Honda in the rear is a bad thing. Honda designed the suspension in every car they make so that under acceleration and braking you retain complete contact and grip with the road. This is one of the reasons Honda is now one of the safest cars on the road. So what I am saying is that all Hondas and Acuras have a very slight negative rear camber from the factory. It is suppose to be that way.

My rear camber, and that of the front, was way out of spec and had to be fixed when it ate my stock tires in a few thousand miles.

Have taken all of your advice to heart. I have observed dozens of E's with my same camber on freeway at speed and in parking lots. All the same! I parked my E in a level spot and used a level to check vertical at both rear tires. Virtually the same reading. Have checked 15 other parked Es with same results!
I had no trouble with my old tires and my new tires are just dandy in the wear dept. I am convinced someone has wrong specs and alignment shop is wrong about there being a problem. My E has and does handel perfectly in all conditions. I have not tried to see if one side is lower in rear as sudgested.
Interesting to note that I had alignment checked after buying new tires due to on going "shudder" I was experiencing in tight turns.
I finally found this club site a week after new tires and alignment bad news.
Actually found thread about rear diff and fixed that "shudder" in about thirty min.
Then decided to ask abouit alignment "problem" at rear camber.
You guys are the greatest!!!!

Hi hope I can get some answers about rear springs. I have had to put a trailer hitch with a power lift for my wheel chair. I have been to Honda and 3 or 4 different places to see what is the best way to beef rear suspension. So far I have not found any after market parts to strengthen rear. Only one place suggested I get the specs on the coil springs and they can have stronger ones made... does anyone no these specs? I cannot find them anyware...

Check with EOC member Igneouss - He's currently experimenting with coils of higher spring rates than stock.

There is a thread to discuss the topic, here:
