After doing some measuring, my official recommendation for maximum speaker mounting depth in the front doors is 2.75".

Not too many 6.5" speakers are deeper than that but if you find a set that is, you'll want to test fit them before buying.

The only example of a speaker I know of that doesn't fit would be the Focal 165K2 - the mounting depth is 3 1/8"!

Most other manufacturers speakers are fairly shallow & this includes MB Quart, JL audio, CDT Audio, Infinity, Polk & others...

eMass, is that before or after trimming the mounting plates? The Infinity 652i that I have are 2 1/16" deep (top mount) and they seem to fit pretty snugly against the mounting plate. So I think that a 2.75" would require so major trimming. Can you let me know how you measured the depth?
