I have several of the 'Vroom microfiber cloths' from Target. They work pretty well for me.

You can find another discussion here. (http://www.autopia.org/forum/archive/index.php/t-70587.html)

Thanks. I'll have to run out and get some this week. Do you guys use these for windows, drying after a wash, and polishing?

All you ever wanted to know about microfiber towels:

http://www.autopia-carcare.com/inf-microfiber.html

The website sells the towels (among lots of other detailing supplies). I can't vouch for the store since I've never ordered from them, but the website has a lot of thorough information on detailing your car.

I have a microfiber towel that is great for drying the car, but absolutely stinks at drying glass. For glass, I just use newspaper and an ammonia free glass cleaner after I dry my Element with the microfiber towel.

newspaper??

yeah, it's this bulky thing that you can get on every street corner and it tells you everything going on in the world. usually with a slant beneficial to your region's political beliefs.

(sorry, i couldn't resist.)

if you crumple up some newspaper and spray whatever you're using (i use stoner's invisible glass) either onto the glass or onto your crumpled up newspaper, it gives you zero streakage. it's pretty amazing, actually.

That was a very good read. I think I'm going to skip the cheapie MF towels and try to get some nice quality ones.

wierd, right? i had no idea myself until i was reading here after having streaked my windows with a microfiber towel. word around the campfire is that professional car detailers use newspapers on their glass, as well.

who knew?

now, as far as windex goes, i have no idea. i'd imagine so, though.

Newspaper does work well, as long as you use a quality glass cleaner. I used the stuff from "Touch of Class" with newspaper and the windows look horrible right now. They are streaked all to hell.

i forget where, but there was a thread on here debating a bunch of glass cleaners. there were two which sort of seemed to be the favorites, stoner's and some other one. i forget the other one cause i got the stoner's and i'm happy with it.

you can get it at kragen if you're interested.

My wife's grandmother has used newspaper with Windex on her windows at home for, oh, I don't know, 4,000 years or so. I still haven't tried it, but ya can't argue with Grandma Ruth!

I remember reading somewhere on the board that someone used Touch of Glass and that they weren't too happy with the results. Although I think that they used newspaper too.

In the past, I've used Stoners (that's the company name) Invisible Glass with newspaper, and was more than satisfied with the results. Back in tha day when I didn't know any better, I used windex and paper towels, and the results were also acceptable, except for the lint that the paper towels would leave on the windshield.

Oh, and now I'm using an amonia-free glass cleaner from Costco, and it works great too.

Don't have a Kragen down here. I asked my dad if Napa stocked either Sprayway or Stoner's and they don't. He said he would pick up some 3M glass cleaner at the local DC next time he was there. I'll let everyone know how it works out.

Costco for microfiber towels.

I caved. I was at Costco last week and saw the 20 pack or something of towels for $12 and bought them. Didn't get to try them out this weekend as the threat of rain and yard work. Maybe this weekend.

Any other old school cotton lovers out there?

Even with all the love shown for mf towels, I'm still stuck on 100% cotton. I was looking at various mf towels for washing, drying, polishing, detailing, etc. and I did decide to get a mf polishing cloth for the windows. But I'm still sticking to natural fibers for anything that touches the relatively soft paint. Even the Zaino Bros tips section says to use only 100% cotton towels. Other major detailing sites do recommend mf towels now, but many also sell them so it's easy for me to see a conflict. The quality of the fabric is critical to the safety and much of this stuff comes from China. It may be good quality or it may be a cheap imitation. Go with whatever works for you, but I'm staying with the "dino" rags.

Where is everybody getting their "elbow grease"? I bought a dozen microfiber towels almost a year ago (and have managed to clean my eyeglasses with them!), have owned my Element for close to four years, yet never hand-washed it? Is there an "Element Hall of Shame"? Do I care!?

"Out, damned spot!"*
