I've got a line on a set of 17x8 wheels off an Acura RL that I'm considering, but the bolt pattern is different. The Element is 5X114 but the RL is 5X120. I like the way the wheels look and they're a good deal but I would have to use adapters. Anyone here using adapters on their Element and have a good source?
I'm especially curious about the thickness of the adapters as well. I'm not sure what the offset on the RL wheels are yet, but I want to make sure I don't end up widening the track too much.

You have to be careful with adapters. I have heard a few horror stories about them. If you do decide to go this route, get machined ones that have their own set of studs in them. and make sure they are hub centric, or they could end up snapping off, due to them not being centered. You will need to check them often, as I have heard they can start to loosen over time.

Adapters are good for show cars. If you plan to drive it on the street, stay with the proper wheels.
I had used them on several cars back in the 60's. One was a dune Buggy, with a VW tyranny ( Transaxial ) that had a corvair turbo flat 6 in it. I kept snapping the lugs off the spacer's in the rear. It may have been due to the L60 X 15's. They had just over 12 inches of tread each. In those days there was not an abundance of wheel makers for the Niche aftermarket. That's not the case today. You can get almost anything you want in almost any bolt pattern. Yes you may have to settle for something that's close, and not exact. But you will have a stronger package with less offset.
Pushing the wheel out away from the hub in an E, will make it necessary to run a thinner tire to get the clearance you need. Stay with the proper wheel for the job. You will be happier in the long run.
