Yes, thats REAL norcal! :)

I remember a guy from somewhere near Redding posting a few months ago... and a couple others say 'northern california' but dont remember where or their names...
But if you know of any really cool camping sites, I know I and probably a few other bay area EOCers wouldnt mind a road trip! :D:D

And welcome to the EOC!!

We go to Ft. Bragg every summer for camping at McKerricher park. Tons of stuff to do around there.

I know I'll probably catch some ess-aich-eye-tee for this:

Most SF bay area folks call themselves "northern californian" to seperate themselves from their southern cousins in LA and such. "Central" California seems in most people's minds (at least around here) to mean the Valley (Fresno, Modesto, Visalia, etc.).

But if you look at a map -- the SF area is definately right in the middle!!!

But if you ask me on the street -- I'm a NorCal gal!

Just my $0.02 :)

People that live in the Bay Area call it NorCal. People that live outside the area call it Northern California.

It's really odd, the North vs. South California thing. I remember way back - where's my cane? - when there was serious talk about splitting the state. NorCal'ers were really unhappy about the Feather River aqueduct, and how those heathens in the LA basin were stealing all of OUR water! Dammit! (The real issue was that corporate agriculture was in the middle of it, although people didn't understand then what Big Ag was nor how much power they wielded in Sacramento.)

Anyway... what's even odder is that Modesto, Stockton and maybe even Sacramento are considered "Central" California. Yet Stockton and Sac'to are north of SF. From a coastal perspective, yeah, SF sort of counts as "Northern California" because there is nothing to speak of 'cept a lot of shoreline north of the bay. But get inside the coastal range and the perspective changes considerably.

EWWWWWW! It is "The City".

The bad thing about living in the Midwest now about the "Frisco" insult is that people here don't understand that it's a pejorative. It certainly doesn't help that until somewhat recently there was the "St. Louis-San Francisco Railroad" (which went no further west than Texas...) that everyone knew as "The Frisco". Even Frisco, TX, is named after the railroad.

I live in the middle of the "State of Jefferson". Needless to say It stands for "We are tired of the Taxes" and other things. The State of Jefferson Byway State route 96 and the backwoods flavor of fishing and hunting etc.We used to Log the area but the Spotted Owl swooped down and killed the loggers.

So why is there a local clothing line called "Frisco?" And it's trendy. I hear many refer SF to Frisco. Especially the peeps in the City.

I think that was a thing of the past not to call SF, "Frisco." I felt a changed around the start of the Dot Com era. I am sure there still locals that get offended by the term, but things in time change. That's the nature of the world.

got me -- it's a biker thing. i'm city folk, and i don't say it. it's called san francisco because it was named after st. francis of asissi. not st. frisco of gauche.

well that pretty much says it all, doesn't it? hahaha!

Yeah...the only locals I hear call SF "Frisco" are the local Red and Whites (Hells Angels) -- they can call it anything they want I suppose!!!!

Haven't seen that "Frisco" gear....guess I'm not trendy

I thought i was living in the "South" when I moved to Indianapolis. Then moved to South Central "Egypt." While visiting a sister-plant in Huntsville Alabama, I was told I was finally in the "South."

It seems there are some Loggers left---a dying breed. Some of my friends still log and doing quite well at it, the competition for tree cutting is very slow. Oh by the way the logging trucks serve a purpose-if you drive too fast they will certainly slow you down and if you are not in a hurry you can stop and view the scenery. You can tell tourists who are afraid of the road---they drive 20mph and lead a 5 car caravan.

Frisco Frisco Frisco Frisco Frisco Frisco. Na Na Na Na Na Na

Sorry* I couldn't resist!

That town's got more nicks than Chinese restuarants. You guys need to settle on something.

Personally I always liked the Hells Angeles logo "Frisco" You would need 20 yards of denium to fit "San Francisco" on the back of one of those vests.

GAH! it hurts, it huuuuurts!

true that! i dunno, probably just personal preference, but i'm not crazy about any of em. "frisco" sounds wierd, "san fran" sounds lazy ... i guess i don't mind "sf," and i regularly use "the city," but only locally, because it doesn't make sense anywhere else, and nyc is also "the city." (in fact, the original "the city.")

yeah, rymo9-something, right? something like that. well, i really have no place making any decisions about what's right and what's wrong, but i do know that the majority of locals, as well as those of us who have lived here for 15-plus years (default locals? hahaha!) don't use it.

Hardees is a midwestern hillbilly burger chain. Basically like McD's and all that... I think their 'frisco burger' had sourdough bread and a bunch of unhealthy stuff that most californians wouldnt touch...:D

oh I don't know...I've heard lots of nicknames for lots of cities in the bay area.

I'll start by picking on my hometown, and go from there:

Redwood City -- Deadwood City (because for years there was nothing to do here! Really!)

Palo Alto -- Palo Alpo
Fremont -- Flea-mont
Milpitas -- Mil***** (lets see if this one gets censored!)
Oakland -- OakTown
Hayward -- Hayweird
Berkeley -- Bezerkeley

I could go on and on...but its time to take my meds now:oops:

I live in the Bay Area, but I'm up in Redding and outside of Fort Jones about once a month. Gotta say the "State of Jefferson" is a pretty interesting piece of California history. If not for Pearl Harbour we may have eventually had two states where only one exists.
Any events up in Redding or North keep me posted.
thanks Josh

SF- IS known as the bay area to all Californinas...regardless of the argument.
Hermosa, Redondo, Manhattan BEACHES- are regarded as the SOUTH BAY.

Ok lets move on now. :D
