I just purchased and installed this unit. ($500.00 on ebay new) The unit plays DVD/CD has a 6.5" touchscreen and fits the double din space in an element. The unit also comes with a cable that you can plug into your iPod and control from the unit and see what your listening to and all the controls an iPod has, you can also play videos and photos from your ipod. It also is ready for XM radio and Navigation with extra components. Screen looks awesome in the E. Also it has an sd card input so you can play songs and photos from it. I even put a picture of my E and a honda logo as my screensaver. I also found a crack to disable the feature that makes you have your parking brake engaged to play videos.

I have never been a Jensen fan, but for the price that looks pretty darn good. Worth considering... thanks.

I myself was never a fan of the Jensen products either, but I heard somewhere that Audiovox took over the Jensen line....I have used plenty of audiovox products in my time and I must say they are of superb quality. :)

nice system.
I have always wanted a complete system.
Recently I have been leaning towards possibly getting a psp to act as a movie/game/music/ now gps system.

As to quality issues, it's hard to pigeon hole anybody any more. As an audio engineer said to me 20 years ago, "The world is a parts bin." It's become more global since then. Anybody can get consumer items made for them and put their name on the box. A Jensen coming off a Chinese assembly line today might be a Rockford tomorrow.

Companies have the ability to market anything they want. Sometimes it's great; sometimes it's crap. You do have a company's reputation to fall back on for guidance but that is only a new model line away from changing, for either the better or the worse.

I totally agree, and more and more brand is becoming less and less an issue, and what made me choose this one was just from what other owners of this unit had to say, they all raved about it, and now after I have installed mine and enjoyed it for almost a week now, I will rave to, it has everything, into one unit, and unlike others you do not need to buy additional parts to work the iPod control, which is an awesome feature, I mean 10,000+ songs at your fingertips with no wires to your cigarette lighter and a crappy fm transmitter is pretty awesome, not to mention the videos and photos. And even better than this is that this unit is half the price of the next best unit. And some are like $3,000.

I would be curious t osee how well it installs with a the existing EX stereo system with stock amp.

I looked ino the nav system for it and that is another $500.
How well does it fit into the dash? Do you have a gap or special bezel to fit around it to close up the area to the existing dash piece?

So where is your ipod located??

The system has outputs and inputs for like everything you could imagine, you should be able to find a downloadable instruction manual I did, i just forgot where, but there are outputs for an external amp and such so it should work nicely in with your EX system. The stereo looks real flush and almost stock like once installed. When I removed the stock stereo and storage space, and installed the new one, there was a 1/4" gap on all sides, but the stereo comes with 2 different trim rings, and one of them fits very nice, I put the panel back on the element and then placed the trim rin gon top with a little hot glue, it looks great I will post some new close up pics when I get home. I am also going to repaint the entire piece and trim ring.

Here's Jensen's page (http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=15218&langId=-1) on this piece. It would have the outputs to hook up into an EX. There is also a manual linked to this page.

Any way of retaining steering wheel controls with this unit?

outpost4
10-09-2006, 01:00 PM
^ Looking through the manual, there doesn't seem to be a remote control input jack. It does come with a remote so the PAC SWI-X universal steering wheel adapter would work. The trick is you'd have to flash the deck, putting an LED somewhere near the remote receiver built into the face of the deck, in order to get the steering wheel commands into the unit. This might be a little ugly in terms of appearance, having an LED hanging out there. Somebody creative will figure out an attractive solution.

Even if you could get the steering wheel controls to work, they only have volume and track controls, this unit has way too many controls, there are buttons to control dvd, radio, xm, tv, cd, mp3, and ipod, so there is no way you'd be able to control all that. With all the features and touch screen this unit has, I will move my hand the extra 8". I am constantly amazed at this unit, yesterday I hooked up a reverse camera, which is awesome when launching my boat, and I had my playstation and a video camera inside hooked up to the auxillary inputs which I wired into the glove box, so I can access them anytime I want to plug something in.

no1dmbfan81

Here is a pic of the media module I hooked up inside my Glove box, suprisingly still with room for stuff like gloves I guess. I also added some RCA cables from the back of the unit's AUX input to the Glove Box and added some couplers (couldn't find extensions) so that I can plug in my PS2 or a video camera or any other video / audio source. I also spray painted the plastic piece you remove to get to the stereo and the trim ring that came with the stereo (black) which I had hot glued together. I spayed a base of grey primer, than a metallic carbon, and then many coats of clear coat, with some light sanding between. It came out awesome and matches the interior plastic awesome, it looks a lot more glittery in the pic, but the flash just hits it really hard. I took out the side stoppers from the glove bos, so it can flip all the way out, and you can easily get to the back of the headunit space to run cables, and then I drilled a hole in the back of the glove box for the cables and placed a small bolt through the back to keep the media unit in place followed by a washer and nut.

i want to see a picture of some video goodness on it.
Maybe a ipod video? normal movie?

Also did you ever mention where you stash your ipod now?

I would still want my steering wheel controls to work.
Volume adjust and radio station changing are great. Plus you can use the mode button to change from radio to ipod inputs etc...

I do not think I have touch my radio since I put the steering wheel controls on. :D

As you can see in the picture, I stash my iPOD in the glove box, but the cable is like 6-8' long so you could really put it anywhere if you wanted, like the optional armrest storage or such. I will post some video and some iPod video pics, and also my custom element screensaver pics on it.

Is this thing just a matter of swapping the head unit on my 04 EX? As in plugging in RCA jacks to the Honda AMP?

outpost4

^ No. Here are the installation instructions for an EX. (http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?p=321025#post321025) It isn't tough but it isn't a plug in job, either. At least with a 2004 you don't need an antenna extension, and with this deck you don't need the installation kit. You will need a Metra 70-1721 wire harness, the RCA plugs, solder and spare parts.

As previously stated the install is easy, not plug in and done, but easy, this was my first car stereo install ever, and it went flawlessly, took about 2.5 hrs, but now that I've figured it out, it would take 20 min. (most of that time was trying to figure out where to put the media module, where to route cables, and how to get the glovebox out) all very simple, finally the glovebox came to mind for the media module, hey its right there next to the headunit, so no cables all over the place and under the mat, etc. So I removed the plastic cover and unscrewed the current head unit, keep the screws, I installed the media module and bolted it inside the glove box, ran the cable to my ipod and then stashd the TV antenna under a seat and hid the wires (by the way if anyone knows the best way to get cables out to the roof, so I can put the TV antenna in my roof rack, please let me know, better reception i'm sure, but I don't just want to go out the door jam and see the wires) Then I took out the pegs which keep the glovebox from falling all the way open on each side, and ran the cable to the media module up to the head unit space, I also ran a set of RCA extension cables to the aux input on the back of the headunit, this way when i want to plug something in, the jacks are easy to get to in my glovebox, I bought a wire harness from circuit city, for an '06 Honda ($11) and just crimped matching colors together, just look at the instructions for the harness and the stereo and connect left rear speaker + to left rear speaker + on the harness, etc. Simple. Then I plugged the harness to the unit and to the car, plugged in the car's antenna to the back of the unit, and plugged the RCA and media module cables, and screwed the stereo back in. I installed the trim ring with some hot glue, I thought krazy glue would have been fatal if I messed up, and sometimes it can burn plastics, and I personally chose to spray the entire plastic cover/trim ring to match, graphite/silverish and then clear coats. Just an added tip, I also changed out my mounting screws afterwards with some from Lowes that have a allen wrench head instead of just phillips or flathead, If a theif really wants a stereo he can probably get it, but just a little extra security, since I am sure most car stereo thieves only car screw drivers since that works on every car almost, they want in and out, not to search for the right sized allen wrench in a toolbox.

This Jensen(/Audiovox?) vm9021ts, and the vm9311ts (7" screen - shown below) SEEM to have about the best iPod control I've seen (so far!).

http://www.audiovox.com/images/products/VM9311TS_open.jpg

However like some other control systems they make no mention of podcasts or audiobooks - just (!) music, photos and vids... It is important to me to be able to deal efficiently with podcasts and audiobooks. How are these handled?

edit: crutchfield has the vm9311ts at $429 (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-txE4HHZaSRz/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=168550&tab=essential_info&i=110VM9311T#Tab), which I take it includes the mount and the daughter-harness. crutchfield does not list the vm9021ts (reason?).

Good Question, I never noticed or thought of it, I am currently out of town, but as far as I remember you can do podcasts, I think I remember seeing it, but since I haven't been home for a week and never use those features I can't remember, however I can guarantee you can play both audiobooks and podcast, because on the head unit, when you press video or photo, while in iPod mode, you can control your iPod and anything playing audio or video will play through and be displayed on the head unit, so even if the head unit does not allow it, you can reach in your glove box or where ever you store your iPod and play it on your iPod and it will play though the unit, I will get back to you when I get home on thurday the 26th and let you know if there are direct controls for podcasts or audiobooks on the unit.

Usually all you have to do is take the ground wire attached to the parking break circuit and just ground it elsewhere.

I hear there is a code you can put into the unit to enable the video to work while the parking brake is off. I've also heard that the code can make it possible for the unit to play burned DVD's. Anyone?

I have this unit on order and I can't wait to put it in. Purchased through cardomain.com with a price match for $486. Seems like a killer deal assuming it does all the things it says it does. That reminds me - has anyone hooked up the TV antenna? And if yes do you get decent reception? Best way to hook it up?

Thanks in advance.

The parking brake solution is discussed just upthread. As for playing burned DVDs, I can't see entering a code would make a difference. Either it will play burned DVDs or it won't. If it was as simple as entering a code, then why not leave it engaged all the time? It makes no sense not to have it play burned DVDs if it can. Manufactures want their pieces to have as many features as possible, not be handicapped out of the box.

I found a software way around it posted on the web:

1. Load dvd.
2. Wait for dvd to play and blue screen to appear.
3. Push your E Brake in three timesto make the Blue screen go away.
4. With the main remote push stop twice and then push 1, 2, 6, 4 Then a hidden menu appears.
5. Use the joystick on the left side of the screen to go
down to Brake Override and turn it ON.
6.Then click System Setupon the main remote
TWICE to SAVE the settings.

So I installed this unit today, but I'm running into some issues. Anyone ever heard of anything like this? - the radio plays fine (all speakers and subwoofer work normally), but all the other sources don't have any audio - DVD's will play with no sound, the IPOD interface will show what is playing on the IPOD with no sound, and the TV works with no sound. I'm scratching my head because the audio associated with the radio works perfect, but all the other sources - nothing.

I'll call the Audiovox service center tomorrow with my problem, but this is just weird. Any ideas would be appreciated.

< outpost is sitting in the back of the class, madly waving his hand to get the teacher's attention >

I know, I know, I know!

This is a simple one to fix. You used the power antenna lead out of the deck for your remote turn-on wire. It puts out 12VDC when the radio is on, turning on the factory amp, but shuts off when you play the other sources. You have no sound because the amp is off. Switch the amp lead to the deck's remote turn on wire and everything will work fine.

There wasn't a blue w/ white stripe wire on my wire harness, so I attached the blue/white wire out of the unit to the blue wire on the harness and wall-laa - it worked, thanks for the heads up outpost. The radio signal works good, maybe better than before so I guess that is what you're supposed to do.

I really like the unit. It plays burned DVD's, and the TV works ok if you find a good spot in the parking lot while the wife shops, lol. I'm not in love with the IPOD interface because you can't scroll on the screen like you can on the IPOD, and when you have a full 40 gig like I do you can forget about finding what you want off the touch screen. So I just unplug and play an album or audio book and plug it back in, then at least you can see what/where you're hearing.

Now on to researching some decent aftermarket speakers.

After further use of the unit I've become a bigger fan of the IPOD controls. Before I figured out how to use the controls I was thinking I would have to "page down" and "page up" the artist or album list to get to my desired selection (and with a full 40 gig IPOD that doesn't make for a short list) or make my selection from the IPOD itself before plugging it into the dock, but since I've learned you can touch a bar on the touchscreen and it will take you to that spot (like if you touch in the middle of the bar it will take you to the artists begining with the letter "M") in the list and from there you can use the "page up" and "page down" arrows to refine your search. In a perfect world the screen would have a wheel just like the IPOD, but Jensen's compromise is satisfactory for my needs.

On a different topic - I watched the football game today with my newborn in the car while my wife went grocery shopping. Gotta love technology.

You folks have convinced me to go the Jensen. I know that the unit has a software solution to bring up a hidden menu that will allow the brake code to be overriden. However, the first step that I found on the Internet is puzzling to me, a non-engineer type who's not too proud to have Circuit City do the install for me:

>>1)Activate the brake sequence and disable the blue screen using the hand brake, the switch method or anything else to give the unit its three pulses to disable that freakin blue screen.<<

The person who wrote that did the following:

>>(What I did was I installed my radio entirely, then took the pink wire and touched for two seconds, removed for two seconds and then touched and held the negative pole of a mower battery laying on my passenger seat until the screen was no longer blue.)<<

Sorry to sound dense, but how does all this work? Do you only get the blue screen while the car is moving? If so, does all this have to be done in motion? And if you *can* use the hand brake, would you just, you know, pull it up? If so, why would anyone want to do things with pink wires? I know that these questions probably sound retarded to you guys, but they're very important to me: making sure that I can run the DVD player while driving is a sine qua non of my getting the Jensen (that is, I don't want it if I can't), and so far I just can't figure any of this out. (Really, there are lots of things that I'm not quite this stupid about!) Thanks in advance to any kind soul who wants to help me out.

richardnogan
01-29-2007, 05:40 PM
It's pretty simple. The pink wire, if installed legally, should be attached to the park brake. If it were installed that way when you lift your park brake it would send that circuit to ground - which in turn makes it possible to watch DVD's (the manufacturer assumes the park brake will be applied whenever the car is parked or not moving). So instead of attaching it to your park brake you just touch it to ground for two seconds and off for two seconds three times (this is after the head unit has been attached and you can watch a DVD in your car, but you haven't put the unit in the dash). I touched the wire to the floor latch for the rear door, but you can do it anywhere there is a ground. This will get rid of the blue "don't watch a DVD while driving" screen - then you can go into the hidden menu and put in the override code. After that's done you just screw in the head unit and you're done. Simple - don't be scared.

After having my unit for a few months I don't find myself watching DVD's/TV while driving, but it's nice not to have to mess with the park brake every time I want to watch the TV.

It is nice that it can be fully integragted into the factory EX stereo.

qtn2x - Yes - the MP3 player resumes playing when the car is turned off and back on (assuming you don't unplug the IPOD). I don't listen to music on the SD card so I can't tell you about that - but I would assume it does. The only thing I've used with my SD card is pictures.

Deathshead - There is no factory steering wheel controls on my 04' so I can't tell you about that. The unit does come with two remote controls though.

hedehede - Putting a picture of something on your screen doesn't really apply to the definition of a "screensaver" since it would still be using the screen, and I don't think there is a burn-in risk on an LCD. When you hit the "PIC" button on the head unit it will turn off the video, which I think is a much better "screensaver". Other than that I think you're stuck with a picture from your SD card reader - and if you do that of course you can't use the other functions of the head unit. I looked through the whole manual about this issue and found nothing. Although it's very possible I could be wrong.

Well...I just installed this head unit in my element last weekend and I'm pretty impressed so far. It plays avi's encoded with ffmeg and xvid and it also plays the videos from my canon digicam but not from my casio. I've got an EX and I've got it wired in with my factory amp and the factory aux input (thanks to the wonderful info on this site!). I'm thinking of getting the xm tuner add-on and utilizing the factory antenna (I don't care about the factory xm tuner...but I'm not really interested in having to run another wire to the roof of the car). So far I'm really impressed with this unit. It sounds and looks good and the iPod integration is among the best I've seen and that's all on top of the amazing price compared to its competition.

Ok.... so, let me see if I have this right:

1. This system seems to rock?
2. You use the touch screen and can control your ipod on it?
3. You can watch TV on it??? (referring back to the guy who watched football while his wife bought the food)
4. You can watch movies on it-- if they are from your ipod, but there is no dvd player, however you have to put the parking break on OR do some fancy shmancy button pushing...
5. You can not use the buttons on your steering wheel if you have this system---

am i right with all of the above, or can someone correct me???
is there a way to copy dvds on to your computer, so I can put them on my ipod??? or is there another way to play movies on this system???
Can you list specifically what I would need to buy in order to do the above (and where I would buy them would be useful)... is there anyone near DC who has this that I could look at, or could help me install it??? Also, in the winter, when wearing gloves, do you have to take your gloves off to get the touch screen to work... i know on my ipod, every time i want to change something I have to pull the glove off.... its a pain in the buttox!

thanks. :)

Hey Jen I looked the Jensen up and 1. it does play DVDs. 2. you can get an interface like I got for my HU, by a company called Pacific Accessory Corp., I got the PAC SWIX interface that lets you keep your steering wheel controls as long as the new HU has a remote. The Jensen does. So you should beable to put this in your E and keep the wheel controls. I noticed it also plays a SD card like my HU does, very nice feature. I have a 2gig SD card holds a lot of music on a postage stamp size card I don't even carry my i-Pod anymore. Good luck. Drew :)

2. You use the touch screen and can control your ipod on it?

Yep...it's not as perfect as the actual scrollwheel on the iPod, but it's one of the best third part iPod interfaces that I've seen. (not perfect...but pretty darn good)

3. You can watch TV on it??? (referring back to the guy who watched football while his wife bought the food)

Yep...I think the reception is a bit weak...but it's passable. I've not spent a huge amount of time watching TV, but it is there and it works.

4. You can watch movies on it-- if they are from your ipod, but there is no dvd player, however you have to put the parking break on OR do some fancy shmancy button pushing...

This does have a DVD player. I don't know where you got your information from...but it will play video from DVD, SVCD, CD, SD Card, or Video iPod. Yes, you are correct about the safety features concerning the video functions however.

5. You can not use the buttons on your steering wheel if you have this system---

I don't think this would be possible without some serious hackin' going on.

am i right with all of the above, or can someone correct me???

Just look above...

is there a way to copy dvds on to your computer, so I can put them on my ipod??? or is there another way to play movies on this system???

You want the legal answer or the honest answer? Yes, there are ways of getting your DVD's onto your iPod and there are other ways of playing movies on this system. You could rip your movies and then transcode them into some other MPEG4 format like XVID or DIVX and the Jensen should then be able to play them either on DVD, CD, or SD Card. I could go on and on about the technical details of how to get this stuff done...but suffice to say that there are a plethora of great guides already on the net written by far more intelligent individuals than myself...I'd suggest issuing a few decent google searches and I'm sure you'll dig them up.

Can you list specifically what I would need to buy in order to do the above (and where I would buy them would be useful)...

You'd need the head unit itself, and a scosche wiring harness (or equivalent) PS - I don't remember which one I used for my 2005 EX, but the one I bought wasn't specifically for the Element...but it worked just fine. Other than that...you'll need some time, an Internet connection, and a printer for printing out some of the fine instructions, wiring diagrams, and walkthroughs posted elsewhere on this site.

is there anyone near DC who has this that I could look at, or could help me install it??? Also, in the winter, when wearing gloves, do you have to take your gloves off to get the touch screen to work... i know on my ipod, every time i want to change something I have to pull the glove off.... its a pain in the buttox!

Can't help you there...it is a mighty rare occurance for this Texas boy to be wearing gloves, and I'm afraid I'm a bit outta your neighborhood if you wanted to take a look at my install.

thanks. :)

I'm pretty sure the touch screen is pressure sensitive, so the gloves wouldn't be an issue. I'll test this out and if I don't reply you can assume this post is correct.

Hey box-E:

You have a 2007 EX and replaced the HU? Where are the wiring harness and interface plate from? I have found a wiring harness from Scosche but no one so far says they have a face plate to cover the 2007 HU opening.

Well I ordered the 06 surround from Majestic. I have a single din HU and ordered the surround and the pocket for an 06 LX because the brackets that hold the HU in are the same brackets for an LX. the 06 stuff is a square opening not tapered. So if you do a double din unit you only need the 06 surround, it's like 13.00:D Drew:)

Does anyone know if you can connect a computer to the touch screen and have it work. I mean, can you use it as the touch screen for the mouse input. Im sure you can connect a s-video out to the hu and us a laptop finger mouse, but I would want to control it with the touch screen

Touch screens can be used with computers so long as the touch screen is made to work with whatever OS your currently running. Numerous people use CarPCs with touch screens.

Many touch screens work by temperature differential, commonly found on laptops. This is why some of them have difficulty working in high heat when your hand is as hot as the touchpad which leads to erratic mouse behavior.

Right, but I think the question is does it have a VGA input, and a USB or serial adapter that will go to the carputer?

I am going out on a limb and guessing......No.

Its spring 2007 and looks like Audiovox/Jensen is getting ready to ship the updated model 9022 in April. This Jensen series looks too good to be true and this time with Bluetooth. Thats great but whats wrong with USB? I am not a fan of Ipod. Are SD cards the way for me to go. The Element aux-in has been good but I have been thinking I don't want to carry or attach anything anymore into the car.

Looks like its got USB and bluetooth. But what happened to the TV tuner? That was cute but in the end is TV lame? Looks there are cheap add on TV tuners but not as convenient as built in. The more I shop around the more greedy and cheap I become. I want it all for less. I am going crazy because you have to look around for the add on modules like Navi and figure if you are saving anything.

Well Im on a waiting list for the VM9022 so we'll see how well it works when I get it. I was going to get the C550 for GPS and bluetooth, but now that the 9022 has bluetooth I only need the C330 or so. Guess we'll see.

Which wire harness did you use for this? and where did you get it if I may ask. Im gonna need one soon. Thanks in advance.

Ignore this, I think I found the answer so long as the SC stock radio is the same as the others. Only problem I have now is that its a 7 speaker system and not a 4 so I dont know how accurate the wiring diagram will be for me. I guess the hard part will be tying in the two front speakers to each other. Anyone make a diagram for the 7 speaker system yet?

So I know I need the Metra harness for this, a couple pairs of rca cables and the antenna adapter, but is there anything Im missing?

just installed the jensen today....not a straight forward thing to do, but i'm really happy with the results. the wiring diagram on this site is really helpful with getting all the factory speakers, including sub, to work. only real complaint is the delays when switching xm channels.

could use some help from someone in regards to where they installed their tv antenna. also, what sub/bass setups are the best. thanks in advance!

i dont remember who, but someone installed and antenna underneath a plastic piece on the roof. if i find it ill let you know

edit: how is the sound thru the stock speakers with the new head unit? some people say that the speakers need upgraded when you get a new head unit. how is the sound quality?

vtdrugs
04-03-2007, 08:54 PM
sound quality is great! a lot better than the stock hu. more, crisper bass. you need to use the rca splicing like in the wiring diagram (the stickey at the top of this forum) i would recommend this hu to anyone, especially for the price. hooked up a kenwood rear view camera today and it works excellent! i'm very pleased with the unit.

1. does anyone have the nav100 hooked up? if so, how is the quality. i have a garmin m5 pda/gps that i use and i love it, but one unit to do everything would be great.

2. does anyone have a dimmer hooked up? didn't see a wire to hook it up in the haness or from the dash. but it's a little bright at night, especially the ipod screen.

3. how do you make a custom screensaver/also make the screensave work?

thanks....

Looking at the wiring diagram for the Jensen unit it looks like the speakers hook up via regular wires and not RCAs. Does the stock amplifier run all the speakers in the car? or is it just the subwoofer? I see the HU does have RCA outs for all the speakers for well, I assume for a preout. I guess thats why Im confused about how to hook the radio up via the Metra harness. Let me know.

Thanks,
Chris

if you hook it up using the wires, you will get no sound unless you unhook the factory amps. since the jensen hu is powered, you cant run power to the facory amp. that is why you have to use the pre amp outputs and splice rca cables into the wiring harness. it's not that hard, just follow the diagram on this forum. the inside wire on the rca is the positive and the outside wire is the negative. trust me, it sounds great with the pre amp outputs and the factory amps.

Ive been working in electronics repair for 10 years now, so soldering/splicing isnt a big deal to me. I just wasnt sure what exactly the stock amp was running. So apparently it runs all speakers in the car, aka why you have to use the preouts to the amp instead of the internal amp of the HU. That cleared it up for me. Thanks for everyones input.

Argh. I just got the 902ITS, literally three weeks ago. Now I wish that I'd known that the 9022 was coming out, since I'd *love* to have the Bluetooth. Also (although it's hard to tell from the description) it seems that the 9022 might control video from the Ipod directly--the 902ITS surrenders control back to the Ipod for video, and it works imperfectly. (It doesn't remember where you were in a video when the car stops, for instance.) And that interface looks a lot slicker, too. *Sigh*. I can't believe that I'm already obsolete!

Two questions...

1) Can you still use your steering wheel audio controls? If you don't have an EX does anyone know if you can retain this feature with an aftermarket head-unit?

2) Why did they have to fabricate the mount/surround around the head unit. If it's a double-din sized radio won't it just fit? I'd love to upgrade the stereo but I'm not a fan of "fabrication".

Edpsx

Steering wheel controls are lost without a PAC controller installed as well.

The surround bezel comes with the radio itself. You wouldnt technically have to use it but there might still be a gap around the radio you may/may not like. It just helps trim it out better.

So far so good on the headunit! Bluetooth feature works AWESOME with my iphone. Pulls up my complete phonebook and even shows the phones name (Edpsx's iPhone) when its connected. I'll have to admit, the 4.1 surround in a vehicle while watching movies is way better than I expected it to be. I watched some of finding nemo last night in my drive way and the THX was actually quite good. Sure gives you a good reason to keep the back speakers for other than just fill.

Coming from an Alpine unit there was a learning curve on how Jensen has everything setup and where all the freaking! buttons are located, but once I figured out the 1/2 page buttons thing, it was all so easy. LOL I still get somewhat frustrated with how the right navigation stick works in the radio and ipod setup, but for DVD menus its perfect.

I'll work up a full review then copy paste it in here later for everyone to read. Might start a new thread on it as well just to make it easier to find. So for now thats my teaser.

I guarantee you will be happy with the Jensen VM9021TS. I have had my VM9021TS for over a year now. I have gotten many compliments about the unit along with my flipdown lcd. I some times play music videos copied on a sd card in mpg or avi format while driving....I usually put the screen saver on in the front, and let the videos play in the back.

I thought the TV stations are planning on broadcasting the signals in DigitalTV?
http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/digitaltv.html

does the unit receive signals in NTSC (analog)?

BiZzKiTtKiLlA

The stations that are received are NTSC (analog) through the tuner. Some channels do come in clean..depending on range, weather, etc. I use the antenna that came with the unit. There is also an option to use the coxial input incase you had a dish on your car....I have seen a few on Hummers. I thought I would never us the tuner...but it's definitely convenient when I want to check the news or the weather.
