: New 4 Door Wrangler
ORANGEE 10-12-2006, 03:44 PM Has anyone seen one in real life yet?
Had a 98 that I just loved
Like the idea of a 4-door rugged vehicle and I like the new 3 piece removable top

hiker chick 10-12-2006, 07:25 PM Haven't seen one in person but they are sharp looking in the pics, for sure.
If I didn't love my Element so much, I'd be interested.
perfdata 10-12-2006, 07:37 PM My local dealer has one, $32k, no thanks!
I saw one on the lot at my local dealer a couple of weeks ago on my way to work. By the time I got off and was able to go look at it, it was sold!! Looks WAY better in person, IMO.
chimbisimo 10-12-2006, 09:48 PM Saw one yesterday, looked GREAT. I fell in love with Wranglers on my honeymoon in Hawaii when the rental car we were supposed to get - the econ car - was unavailable and they let us use a Wrangler instead.
stacyk 10-12-2006, 11:14 PM I live in El Paso, TX and have been a huge fan of jeeps since I was a kid. In fact my other car is a 97 with the 4in lift and the works. I saw a 4dr x on a lot the other day and almost had a wreak cranning my neck looking as I passed it by. I went to look at it a couple of hours later and it had sold....but I got to check it out before the guy took it home.
It is very easy to get in the back now, but there is not that much more knee space.
I'm 5'11 and I had the driver seat set where I like it and then I climbed in the back. Not bad, but not a huge difference. nowhere the space that the element has. Back seats fold flat..well mostly flat..and they are 40/60 split. It's pretty cool. With the seats up, there is space in the back for a good sized cooler and a few other things. I really like them...
the bottom line is that they are still jeeps. not quite as comfy as the element, but will get you WHERE EVER you want to go and you can take the top off. The 4wd soft top auto ac x that I saw was about 26,000. A bit high for an X. I will be getting one in about a year when the price comes down, but I won't be trading the E..I love it!
Hab Mobile 10-13-2006, 08:19 AM I also definitely like the look of the new four-door Wrangler. Does anyone know if it has the same 'old technology', or have the updated this? Is there a GPS navigation system option?
I owned a Jeep before and like the look of the new four-door Wrangler, but I won't be trading in my E for this.
ShotOnce 10-13-2006, 04:57 PM I've always loved the Wrangler, but I don't like the 4 door. I'd have to see one in real life before passing final judegment.

There is a nav system option for the '07s, as well as power windows/locks.
StumpjumperDave 10-14-2006, 08:52 AM I saw one at the State Fair of Texas the other day....It was pretty cool looking.. a bit pricey...
I would consider one. I think I'll wait though until the price comes down. not sure I want to own another jeep. I've had a cherokee and a grand cherokee. I'd have to see how much room there is and how it drives. I am holding out for a couple of more years until the nexgen E comes out.
ORANGEE 10-16-2006, 03:14 PM I wouldn't trade my Element for one ........but it would be a great "other" vehicle.

Flobox 10-18-2006, 12:03 PM I had to buy an Element before those tempted me into buying another Wrangler. Rust at 2 years, 22K miles isn't cool. I still have a HUGE soft spot for Jeeps.

i don't know how the wranglers hold up over time, but i had two jeep cherokees (at different times) and each had the same problem. they would stall sometimes while idling a a red light and then wouldn't start. the dealerships could never find the exact reason for the problem. also the viscous coupler on the front steering eq uipment failed. luckily the car was under warranty-just- and the $1200 repair was covered. they were both nice looking cars, but headaches.
JPH102900 10-18-2006, 03:08 PM I like the look of the car but I don't know if I would ever get one for that price. I must say, I love the commercials though. :D

I have owned both a Cherokee (1993) and a Wrangler (1998) and had NO problems with either one - maybe I just got lucky. I do like the looks and functionallity of the 4-Door Wrangler..........more practical than the 2 door for sure.
SciJohn 10-18-2006, 04:21 PM There are a few at the dealership here in Quincy, MA. They look cool but I have bad associations with Jeeps. My grandfather had a few Wagoneers. He was always having trouble with them stalling.
I remember once when we were coming down a steep hill in Maine and the hood flipped open. It scared the sh** out of everyone. A logging truck was coming up the hill at the same time. We all thought we were gonners!
The hood bent so far back that my grandfather and my father could not get it all the way back down. Thank heavens for bungee cords. :)
Flobox 10-18-2006, 11:08 PM Dad had two Cherokees.
The 85 was always good from a reliability standpoint, but it made the Element look like a high performance rocket. It had a carbuerated 115 hp 2.8L V6 (from the Chevy S10) mated to a 3 speed automatic... and these are OLD SCHOOL automatics, not modern computer managed units with lockup torque converters and overdrive.
The 94, which was cosmetically identical inside and out except for a few minor points (rear shoulder belts, better radio, center taillight, different wheels) had tons of problems. The 4.0L I6 was a monster of torque, and the 4 speed automatic a major improvement, but the overall build quality was terrible. Just a few things that come to mind:
- The "Guess the fluid game" on the garage floor.
- burst radiator pipe... antifreeze gushing out both sides of the hood at 75 mph on Interstate 10.
- brakelights seemingly possessed. Can a brand new car be haunted?
- seat recline lever that broke off in my hand (dad reached over, pulled his off, and handed it to me to lean my seat back. I then returned it to him to put back on the seat)
- countless oil sensors, O2 sensors, glitches.
- the thing ALWAYS ran hot. Normal operating temperature was a hair under the red zone on the temp guage.
- body rust at approx 5 years old... this in a garage kept baby that he didn't drive during the week (had a company car) that never saw salty roads and may have seen dirt roads twice.
My Wrangler was okay for a short time I had it, although it started forming rust around the windshield and on the drivers side windshield hinge at 2 years old, and it had a freakish condition where it would seemingly lose power for around 30 seconds then recover. Much like having the AC kick in on a small displacement 4 cylinder, but there was NO A/C!!!
dohcvtec 10-22-2006, 10:09 AM saw it on the road once..kind speical...finally
a 4 doors wrangler in about 20 years
My local dealer hasn't got any more 4 doors in, but today I saw a new 2 door on the lot. IF they haven't sold it yet, I'm going to stop by and check it out tomorrow.
