Howdy,

I picked up some tweeters to drop into my 2007 EX. From what I've seen in other related threads this looks like a fairly straightforward job. However, now that there are side curtain airbags up in the A pillar, is there a chance that any part of this installation might be any different than with previous models? Is there anything different I have to be aware of with regard to removing/installing the plastic trim piece?

I just want to make sure I don't do anything to mess up how the airbags deploy.

Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, the side curtain airbags in the '07's are positioned along the headliner, not in the A-pillar.

Double-check w/your owner's manual, but according to Honda spec's online, they're in the headliner. If that's the case, you shouldn't have any problem. Refer's to DaveZ's mod further back in this section; excellent step-by-step on install of Polk db1000 tweeters.

Good luck! :D

This pic should give you a good idea where the airbag components are located.

One thing to be aware of is the new clip used at the top of the A-Pillar garnish. It cannot be reused, so once the garnish is removed, you will need a new one on both sides.

This clip is red & black (2 pieces) and is removed by applying force to the garnish. That will slide the black pin to the 'release' position on the red grommet. '06 Civic used a similar style clip. Best method is to use two rubber mallets. Hold one just below the 'SRS Airbag' logo and hit it with the second mallet. Then, try to gently pull the garnish away from the body. You may need to do this a couple of times before the clip will release.

I'd make sure to have the new clips in hand before trying your tweeter install. Since the cars are so new, the dealers may not have them yet.

Good luck.

Thanks for the helpful info. That's just the kind of "minor" difference I was wondering about.

You could just mount your tweeter next to the midbass.
