I was wondering if anybody got rid of that factory sub and replaced it with a center speaker. I would like to do that but not sure how it would sound. thanks

Yep, I thought of that. I think It would sound fine as long as you have a dolby surround source and processor. Would be great for watching DVD's from the back seat.

Shouldn't the center be near the monitor location. I would think keep the little sub and figure out a way to get it nearer the dash or monitor location. Just a thought. I worked in home audio for ten years and just recently left but I haven't done mobile theater.

I'm going to get rid of that little sub and put a w7. I thought that center speaker would be pretty close to the monitor. I would hate to leave that little sub in there . Thats why I want that center speaker.

The center speaker should be as close as you can get it to the monitor, and in our case, that would be where the subwoofer is. It might sound funky to the front passengers, the sound and picture coming from different places (the same part of the brain processes both) but as has been said here, it would sound great for the rear seated ones.

I'd say go for it. :)

Well. Hmm. I seem to recall someone putting a center speaker hanging from their overhead compartment. It looked almost like it just clipped in. Would it sound as good coming from there?

I installed a small center speaker under the overhead compartment about a couple years ago. At first I didn't think it added much effects wise but after testing the overall sound with it turned off one day it then felt like a void there. It adds a nice addition especially with movies playing.
It's a small Kenwood center channel speaker powere by it's own tiny amp which I installed under the center console. The speaker unit was bolted thru the holes of the compartment's mesh bottom and the wiring was hidden thru the wall of the compartment so removal will leave no sign it was ever there.

Ah yes, now I remember. It was Empire that had that. I used to stare at the pics of his ride back when he had the rugged look. Its what i dreamed about. Then he changed it. Then later i decided that i prefer the look of a lowered E on 19's. But especially one with a kickin system. And thats where i put my money. Funny how that works. But back to the speaker, it even looks like it could have been mounted a little further up on the overhead, but it might then get in the way of the rear view mirror.

Correct, at least for my viewing angle, any further back and I would begin to see the back of the speaker unit at the top of the mirror.

that kenwood center speaker is really nice because its not too big were your eyes focuses on the speaker. Empire would you recommend the Kenwood center speaker?

Sure, I like it.
It's their older model but they do have a newer one that might sit nicely on the flat section of dash above the center vents.
