Suddenly, I found myself as a dog owner....

We've been lookin to adopt a dog for some time now, and yesterday, at our local PetsMart, it was adoption day.

Markie here had come from the city animal shelter, where he had been left by the son of his owner, who was suffering from Alzhiemer's. This was Markie's last weekend before he went on 'the list.' He's 6 years old, very affectionate, and well tempered, and has bonded with me and LW. So far he and the cats have yet to come to an agreement on how to share the house, but we're working on it.

I just don't know what kind of dog he is. Well, he's a couple of different kinds of dog, I know that...
He's about 25-30 lbs, has a very curly tail, furry ears, and krinkly eyebrows. He's also got purple spots on his tounge. Anybody wanna guess what he might be?

OMG, he is adorable. Many pats on the back for adopting a rescue dog-he's a lucky boy.

Part cattle dog? He looks great, glad you found someone to bring home and could provide a home for this little guy.

P.S. Love your avatar - my partner's license plate is SATCHL. We're big "fuzz" fans.

Very nice looking dog, from the head shape I'd say there is some cattledog in there somewhere. As for the spots on the tongue, nothing to a specific breed no matter what anyone tells you - it's just pigment.
Congrats and thankyou for saving another one of gods great creatures

Markie is one lucky dog. THANK YOU for chosing a rescue. I am sure Markie is in his honeymoon period. He went from living with someone for ever and then to the shelter and then to your house. From what you have said, he is adjusting great. That is wonderful. As someone who has done some rescue, there is nothing worse than seeing a dog trying to figure out why their "People" don't want them any more.

I have looked at his photo and I am not really seeing anything that makes me say "Cattle Dog" but that is only my opinion.

Congrats. You did the right thing by going thru a rescue. All 3 of my dogs are rescue dogs. Sabre from the SPCA, Scout from the county shelter and Trooper (my giant mali monster) is from a rescue in OK that we connected up with on petfinder. I wouldn't trade 'em for the world.

it's great to see so many people getting dogs from rescue organizations ! i volunteer for aussie rescue and there are way to many forgotten dogs out there to buy anything from a puppy mill.

nearly every registered breed has a rescue organization, doesn't take to long to find one near you....and the doggie slobber cleans out of the e easily !

Your pup looks like a Cattle Dog to me and might even be a purebred. I see lots of cattle dogs at herding trials and he is about the right size. Spots maybe be that he might be a merle. You might want to see if he has any herding instinct when things settle down in the spring. If he does than you and he can take lessons and compete in herding trials. PM me in the Spring or even now for more herding info.

I really have to disagree with you. I breed cattle dogs and they can be seen on my web page. Markie does not look like a cattle dog.

Uno Kitty finds Markie looking intelligent and attentive. Attributes that should make him easy to train as well as a quick study.

Uno Kitty has identified Markie as 100% pure lucky dog.

Congratulations to both you and Markie!

Best of luck.

I have many friends with cattle dogs-Markie doesn't look anything like them. He might have some pinscher in him, not that it matters one bit-he is adorable.
