Ok, this is way way early! But at the DC/VA/MD Meet over the weekend, we were discussing an 'On the Beach' meet. Someone said the Delmarva folks were looking into something like this as well.

So, here's the deal. Joe and I have a Condo on the Beach in Ocean City that sleeps 8 (I think). I'd love to begin working on a HUGE Meet in Ocean City in July (about the 3rd wk in).

**REMEMBER - The 3rd Annual National Meet is being planned for Las Vegas.**

This would give us enough time to get with the City about a spot on the actual Beach for some fantastic Photo Opts. We could essentially make this an East Coast Meet as well, if there is enough interest. We've got enough time to plan.

So, who's interested? Lets start working!

You know I'm in! I was thinking about this on the ride home last night from our meet! There are a few possiblities of things to do while we are down here: A ride to Assateague, with a reserved area for any E owners who may want to camp there?? Possibly a morning ride down the boardwalk? I know the city allows this for some of the "bigger" meets that come into town, such as for the cruisers and motorcycles. Also, I've noticed that Seacrets will provide special parking for large groups if we all wanted to meet for lunch/drinks/dinner/dancing until 2am, lol. You can probably get a $9 martini there too Kerri.. ;)

Very strange. I tried to check the rates online for the Comfort Inn in Ocean City. It came out to $3000 a night. Hmmmmmm. :???:

I thought about this as well (Assateague). I checked into it and apparently if enough people want to camp there, we could reserve a section of the federal campground ahead of time so everyone is together!! May be a good idea to keep the lewd behavior contained to one area ;)

Thanks FCZ1, Dave, Lex-E, and Booda, for coming to the meet. I had a great time meeting new friends. Thanks Dave for spotting that tree lot on the way home, my mom loves it:). As I was driving up her street, one of her neighbors was polishing his brand new rootbeer SC. He already knew about the club, so he will be a member soon.

I'm all for getting together and cruising around, but I've never been to a meet before - what kind of stuff goes on? I'm guessing some modding, a lot of shooting the breeze, and then somehow it evolves into some red stripe induced dancing in thongs?!?! Sounds like fun!!!:-P

I think the location has bounced back and forth between Ocean City and other equally fun locations. I can probably do one out of area Honda event this summer so when the planning settles on a location I'll make the effort to join in. Having been to two events now, I think they're a lot of fun.

I think possibly the Great Dismal Swamp in Suffolk may be a great place to go camping and kayaking. There is a lake their called Drummond Lake which no-one really knows if it was a manmade created lake or something that a giant fire may have sparked off. Either way the area hosts great history, including the Washington ditch in which supposedly George Washington had created in order to harverst logs and lumber into the lake, it is well over 1 mile long and is huge. Their are many black bears and a diverse species of birds their. Just one more suggestion.

SUFFOLK - They know the bears are out there.


Hunter Ed Mattucci saw the evidence: a pile of fresh droppings on the dirt road. Tracks, too.


But signs were all most hunters got Friday during the first black bear hunt in the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. Not one bear was shot.
By midday, good-natured but frustrated hunters were saying pretty much the same thing.


"I'll just be happy if I see a bear," said Tom Murphy of Chesapeake as he unloaded a portable tree stand from the bed of his pickup. He was preparing to try his luck in a different part of the swamp.

Officials have capped the maximum number of bears allowed to be killed at 20.


Wildlife advocates tried to get the hunt canceled but failed when a federal judge denied their request Thursday.


The hunt will continue today, but tough conditions make the outcome uncertain. High water in the swamp Friday kept hunters from moving around much, and dense bramble thickets clogged the few dry pathways.



Hunters showed off soaked boots and arms shredded by prickly bushes.
In many places, canals running along swamp roads separated hunters from the woods. Some ferried across in small boats only to be greeted by more water on the other side.


"It's really difficult - a difficulty rating of 9," said hunter Troy Akers of Norfolk, who added that the swamp is different than in Colorado, another place he has hunted bear. "There, you don't have all these marshy obstacles."


It's like the Everglades, said Mattucci, who lives in Franklin.
Because of the difficult terrain, many hunters slogged only 100 feet or so from roads. Some used tree stands to shimmy up tall gums and maples for a better view. Clad in fluorescent orange clothing, hunters could be spotted from the road.


The reverse wasn't always true.


One hunter lost his bearings in the thick woods about 50 yards from a road and called 911, refuge manager Suzanne Baird said.


Between 250 and 350 bears are believed to live in and around the 111,200-acre refuge. The bear hunt is restricted to two areas total ing 21,000 acres.


Fifty-eight hunters selected in a lottery paid $50 each for a permit. About 40 of those were hunting in the swamp Friday.


Officials weren't entirely surprised by the shutout.


"Even if we were at normal water levels, this is a challenging hunt," Baird said.

Hey whats going on with this? Camping on the beach sounds cool(well except the cold showers) I could be in for this.

I am thinking we could split this up into 2 meets?? I only suggest that because camping in July @ Assateague is 1. HOT (no shade at all unless we camp on the bay side) 2. Bug filled and 3. Hard to book unless we do it as a group now because of Assateague's popularity in the summer.

Maybe we could do a camping meet @ Assateague in the spring, and another meet in Ocean City in July that's more of a simple meet, greet, & cruise. Just a thought!

I just did a check on recreation.gov (website needed to book @ Assateague National Seashore). According to that, the only weekend left in late Spring to book a GROUP site is April 22 & 23rd, a 2 night stay. Even just staying 1 night, a Saturday night, is hard to book. So, if we want to do a pre-summer meet and camp together, that may be our only option there. We don't have to all camp together at a group site, we can be spread out, but thought it would nice to stay together.

There are a couple of camping alternatives (besides also checking with Assateague STATE Park) One being Fort Whaley Campground (www.fortwhaley.com), which is probably 15 min from OC, 25 min from Assateague). I am also putting in a request for info for Frontier Town (www.frontiertown.com) which is 5 min away from Assateague, 10 min to OC) Another state campround is in Crisfield, MD on the Chesapeake Bay...called Janes Island State Park, fyi.

FrEEdom's suggestion of May 19-20 is a great suggestion though because that's also the weekend of Ocean City's "Cruise In"... when thousands of people drive their old (and new) restored cars into town for the weekend. I'd love to crash that party! ;)

I was planning on possibly going to the one in July, so if you start a head count you can jot down The Rube & Fa. Again, it all depends on the dates that you guy/gals decide to pick. I'm not a camper so I would have to book a hotel room. Keep me posted as to what you decide and hopefully I can join you.

Ironfish is watching the developments with great interest. Beach camping would be nice. MadCrazyDingo has been telling me he wants to go camping this summer.
