Hi all... I have an 03 NBP EX.. with an illuminated Malfuntion light. I had a buddy of mine pull the code and it is 0141 - o2 sensor. My question is.. Has anyone replaced thier o2 sensor, or is something I should just suck it up and let the dealer do. The part is only 70$ at the local auto parts house.. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Why did the O2 sensor fail? Mileage or other problems? I would go with one that is plug and play and doesnt require any messing with wiring. Make sure you have a socket or wrench that will work for removal. Works best with vehicle on lift and not on stands. Disconnect the harness before removal. Make sure with the new sensor that you dont touch the sensor part with your fingers or get anti seize on it. Vehicle should still be warm not hot to help with removal.

Thanks for the quick response. The reason for failure is mileage, I assume... I forgot to mention.. only 52k on the odo. This is the first issue I've had with her. Is there more than one sensor or just the one?

The Element has 2 sensors....one just in front of the cat and one in the cat.

My o2 sensor failed at around 56,000 leaving me with the annoying engine light. It took my mechanic about 5 minutes to replace.

I seem to remember emission related parts carry a longer warranty, like 100,000 or something. The only O2 sensor I've changed was at 170,000. If you continue to run on a bad one I think it can ruin your cat.

A bad O2 sensor will kill your mileage and, after a while, will make your car run like crap to the point of stalling at stops and other nasty stuff. Does the Element have a bunch of crap in the way of the sensor ala the Mercury Mystique, or can a person in his driveway get to it?

At 53k mi the dealer should cover it under the emission warranty.

Thanks everyone for the input... I think I'll just take it to the dealer and see if the part is covered. I knew there was a reason I came here first. :D

I have the same problem 64k miles; did the dealer cover the sensor?

When I called the manager said in the back ground "not another sensor"

Not covered under emissions warranty, part is cheap from Autoparts store and takes like 8 minutes and a big wrench to put in. Make sure you know if it's the primary sensor or the secondary. Secondary is usually the 1st one to go and is the one in the cat. Mine went at 60k. Autozone can run the code for you for free. The dealer will charge you $80 just to read the code so he can then tell you it's $286 to replace the sensor. But hey, if you got $$ to piss away...

why wouldn't the O2 sensor be covered under 'emissions' 100k warranty?

Only what Honda seems to deem major emissions components appear to be covered under the 8 yr warranty.

My warranty book which is for canada only lists the ECU and Cat to be covered.I'm assuming the US is similar.

FWIW... The dealer didn't cover my o2 sensor.. luckily I got the extended warranty, so all I had to pay was a 100 deductible.
