Hi all,

With the durability of the seats, has anyone gotten the optional seat covers, and if you did, why?

My wife and I are thinking about them, but we don't know if they are worth it.

Honda seat covers just came in today, and I finished getting the 1st on. It is not that hard to do, and take a few mins. The only problem I had was standing out in the cold (20 deg wind chill today here in NY). I got the second one on, but not attached yet. I will do that when I warm up a bit.

They look good, and seem like they will hold up real well.

There hasn't been much attention paid to them, but I gotta say, I love the neoprene Element seat covers. They get as many comments as any of the other features of the car, and while right now they're just for looks, I'm sure they'll come in handy once beach weather rolls around.

Here is a great site for Okole seat covers. They are also neoprene and are made to fit for just about any car. Although the E being so new and all they might not have a selection for it yet. I had a pair on my old CJ and they were fantastic with great colors to choose from.

The only hard part about the seat cover is latching them under the seat... It is easier when the weather is warm.

Looking for some insight. I apologize if this has been covered before.

We are awaiting our new Element. We've been wondering about the seat covers. I am very warm blooded and my wife is the opposite (big surprise there?). Does any one in a warmer climate have the neoprene seat covers? I'm concerned that the seat covers will be too warm for me. What has been your experience?

Thanks for any input.

I ordered them from H and A.....got them, installed them, took them off and returned them!

They were the first acc. that I ordered....even before I bought my E I wanted the cool seat covers.....but my personal opinion is that they look horrible with the blue/gray interior of the EBP....the colors just don't blend well enough for my liking.

Just my two cents

I had the same reservations about the seat covers as you have. It has been very hot down here this spring, (Florida) and I haven't noticed any problems so far! I really like the covers! 8)

Got 'em, put 'em on in the parking lot, love 'em. I live in South Texas where it gets as hot 113 F., (not yet this year) and can't imagine a seat cover could possibly make it any hotter. Also, I've gotten crap on my seat covers that I would have screamed bloody murder if it had gotten on my seats! Personally, with my E being silver, I think they look great. The contrast with the blue interior is no different than the rest of the gray with the blue. A matter of perosnal preference I guess.

Here are some:

Wet Okole (http://www.wetokole.net) is probably the best. Had these on my truck for almost 8 years before they started getting wrecked. Its made of neoprene so you can get it wet, and its easier to clean. Pricey but worth it

Another site (http://www.shearcomfort.com/seatcovers/) I found has these. They aren't neoprene, but may liven up your life a little.

The Wal Marts here have the same type of seat covers also.

At Surf Dogz (http://www.surfdogz.com/hawaiiana/seatcovers.htm) they also have the seat covers.

Search on Yahoo with "Aloha Print Seat Covers" and many sites come up.

I may be wrong, but I thought that you were not supposed to use seat covers if you have side air bags. I know that the OEM seat covers are specifically not to be used in E's with side air bags.

I see the Honda seat covers say they should not be used on cars with side airbags. This is because the airbag comes out of the seat and there are sensors on the seat.

Is there any solution to this conflict or are seat covers out of the question for side airbag equipted Elements?

Beaded seat cover bottoms, YEAH, they work. I had the Element neoprene covers and I always got sweaty and sticky. I put the beaded bottoms on and do not get sticky and sweaty, they circulate air and do not look bad at all, IMHO. So there! 8)

The problem with seat covers is that you cover your seat bungees. The Honda seat covers avoid this. You can order them from HandA. Seat covers will block side air bags also. I found some in Walmart that just cover the tops of the seats. Type S brand. Padded and in red or blue.

Resurrected post for your convenience. I was able to clean them back to where the marks were unnoticeable, but it took quite a while.

I bought brand new Honda seat covers. I only had them on a few weeks. Below is a picture of what I found underneath when I removed them :( I thought I was protecting the seats!

The stitching in the seat covers has some kind of grease in them, which transfers to the seat material when you sit on them.

P.S., I never sat in the seats wet or sweaty. The (online) dealership that sold them to me took them back without question when they saw the pictures.

I plan to use my Element hard and dirty for 10 years(mtn biker etc) and then maybe sell it, looking almost pristine, like my 10 year old 4WD pickup I just sold, looking mostly new, as have the few cars I have owned in my life. So I put seat covers on the front heavy wear seats. ( I do NOT have side air bags. Do NOT cover side air bag models!)

For my new non-side air-bag Element I bought "X-Bound" heavy cordura nylon seat covers for the front seat. They are tough and have a zillion pockets to more than make up for the silly bungie pockets they cover on the seats. Their fit is a bit marginal, but for $60 for the pair, available at most discount stores and auto parts stores, they meet my "keep it simple" needs. They look real "outdoorsy" too.

They should hold up well for dogs or mtn bikers and can be removed for those nice nights on the town, in a pinch.

And they go really well with the $9 rubber "color matched" floor mats to avoid heel holes under the brake/gas pedals. :D

Of course I also use an old cheapo seat cover for the BACK of the folded up rear seats for when I lean and cinch the bike up against it. And use a nice $9 petroglyph design carpet runner for under the bike. Nothing but the best. :?

Keeping it clean....

Don't try any seat covers with side air bags, especially these. But since side air bags were not even available in my area when I bought the car.(would have bought them if I could), this allows me to buy these nice utilitarian covers for only $60 a pair AND they are covered with storage pockets to make up for lack of "covered/restrained" storage in the car.

http://www.elementownersclub.com/uploads/files/HE9622sideinterior.jpg

fit is pretty snug, but they are a tough thick cordura nylon and are really working out well.

Okay - got a question. I have the Element seatcovers and it's about time to clean these babies. I remember reading somewhere that they're NOT machine washable - is this correct? If so, am I looking at the ol' hand-wash & Woolite routine here?

You are correct, do not machine wash them. The seats are made out of neoprene, the same thing the wetsuits I've used for 23 years to surf in are made of. I use the same thing that I have always used on them which is dish soap (Joy) and warm water. Works great and if it's sunny out let them dry in the shade. I have lost a few wetsuits back in my childhood days due to sunlight cracking.

pagefan,
I found the "X-bound" covers at the local (el cheapo) Shucks auto supply and have seen them at Target and Fred Meyer in the local Seattle area. They were approx $60 a PAIR. I think they give a cooool outdoorsy look to the interior and set off the otherwise non-contrasting interior.(available in red too) The MANY pockets are handy, they are tough cordura nylon but suprisingly comfortable.

check out www.saddleman.com, according to the box, but I can't find the X-bound on the site.

I can wedge the back wheel of the bicycle into them without worrying about messing up the seat or wearing through the factory seat, doing this on a daily basis.

For their price, they can be tossed after a few years, although they claim machine washable cold. They are NOT stretchy and are a snug fit top to bottom, but I find that makes them just stretch enough when sitting on them to pull them snug without getting baggy looking. The laces are used to "custom" adjust them to the seat. Just tuck the extra fabric in and it looks clean. DO NOT put these over the side air bag type seats!

Note: if you plan to get an EX with side airbags, you can't use the covers. Just FYI. If you get an EX w/o side airbags (or any LX or DX) you can use them.

Other than that, I've heard they are neoprene and somewhat less comfortable than the seats themselves. There are 3 reasons I can think to get them:

1) You plan to be wet and/or dirty quite a bit, and the you believe the FXC fabric on the front seats isn't going to be able to handle that much abuse.

2) You want the front seats to be pristine when you sell the E in a few years.

3) You smoke in the car and you are worried about putting a hole in the FXC seats (note that neoprene will only give a bit of protection against this, because it will also burn).

I've heard a few good things about the Honda Genuine Seat Covers and more bad things. I have had good experience with the X-bound covers. I have them in the Element now. What I like the most about them is that the storage capability on the back of the seat is not lost - it is covered by the seat cover but the seat cover it self has storage pockets. The back pocket is pretty big too; enough to hold a big atlas. Plus, there are little netted pockets on the sides and in the front.

Might want to look at this as an option. Best of all, they were only $19 each at Walmart.

I opted for 2) keep the seats in pristine condition.

Bought a set of covers made of neoprene for $12 at the local Costco. They have lasted a year. Will probably make it at leat another year. I would like to have something for the rear seats, too, but they don't get used very much, so if I can't find anything cheap (that's me!~) I can do without.

There are many full-seat covers available in the aftermarket; most will fit, as the E seats aren't unusual in size or shape. Just remember, though, that if you buy side air bags, you cannot use a full seat cover, and even partial covers (such as the "ventilated" or wooden ball "massage" type) must be secured in such a way as not to interfere with the side air bags (straps on top and bottom are usually OK, but side straps are a no-go).

My only question on this site is...which seat style is the correct one for the front seat of the E?

I did have some problems at first. if i remember it was very tight when i was putting it on. but after i took some time to get it i was able to. after a while it loosens up and you might even have to adjust it again. hope it helps a little bit. one other thing is that the metal clips are pretty crappy as far as how they are attached to the bungie. when i was pulling them tight some of them broke. So i just tied the clips directly to the bungie.

They were definitely a snug fit, but it all went together ok for me. They did have to stretch into place a bit lengthwise.

The elastic that snugs them down was a little weak and I did have to get creative taking up the slack after a few months, but over a year later they are still working out just fine for me and durability and ability to take up hiking and mtn biking dirt and sweat is GREAT.

I don't know how the Honda seat covers fit onto the seats, but my understanding of the airbags in the seats are they come out of the edge of the side bolster at the stitched seam. So if the seat cover isn't covering any part of that then the airbag should work just fine.

The seat cover issue could be similar to why Honda doesn't want anyone with a manual tranny to use the larger arm rest... Corporate Policy based on liability.

The dealer has to worry about liability and is the only reason they ask you to sign the waiver. If Honda said it shouldn't be used with the side airbags the dealer has to cover their butt.

You asked what could happen if you used the covers and go into an accident... if the cover gets in the way of the airbag deployment it could possibly redicrect the bag in an improper location and either not work properly and allow you to get injured or it can be pushed into a location that can cause injury by itself. But nobody can give a perfect answer without seeing the cover inplace to judge where it falls on the seams.

The Honda OEM seat covers have no sides on them...so the side of the seat is exposed. I do not think there would be any obstruction. I have seen some posts that refer to conflicts with sensors...and other issues...but it is still confusing to me. Also, all of the aftermarket seatcovers that say they can be used with side airbags...or at least they have design workaround which is basically to open up the sides. Is this really an acceptable work around or are these putting the occupant at risk as well?

spdrcr5
02-26-2006, 09:45 PM
If the side bolsters aren't covered then I don't see the reason why you couldn't use them.

I have seen seat covers for cars with side airbags that have velcro flaps over where the airbags come out.

The decision is really yours.

Can I ask why you want to put seat covers on? The front seats are stain and water resistant.

tango

The reason "they" tell you no seat covers is L-I-A-B-I-L-I-T-Y. Nothing more than that. The same reason they tell you the weight limit is 675 lbs when 4 average size Americans and their over-stuffed luggage weigh more than that. Since people will do anything - including covering their seats with faux lynx fur and rhinestones or steel chainmail mesh and they cannot possibly write for or instruct each individual they just say NONE - covering their butt for anything. Bottom line, they don't want to get sued.
Installed properly any seat cover that does not obstruct the egress of the side airbag should be fine. If made for seats with side airbags, covers should not interfere with sensors any more than a woman wearing a long dress or a man wearing a big parka would.
And I see why some people want washable, removable covers - some people with dogs, for instance. People who want to avoid wear and tear on the seats and people who get dirty at their job also might want covers. Just because the seats are water-resistant and stain-resistant doesn't mean every stain comes off OR that a smelly dog won't leave you with permanent odeur'de dead something. And then there are the folks who just like the way they look and add color and individuality to their E.
If the Wet Okole seat covers allowed for the seat-back pockets and bungees I would put 'em in my E in a minute. They're just fun and look cool.

Wet Okole has the only seat covers I have found that can be used WITH the side airbags :) You just order the ones WITH the side airbag option. They are more expensive but they retain the safety AND the quality and selection are the best I have seen.
They are also waterproof, stain resistant and tough - think wet-suit material (neoprene).
The only reason I haven't gotten them is because they cover the seat back bungees and pocket and I LOVE that feature. Otherwise I covet them - all the bright fun colors too.

I found this page that discusses the company's side air bag seat covers (three styles it seems): http://www.coverking.com/c_seatcoversairbags.html. The pictures show an opening in the middle of the side of the seat. It is my impression that the side air bags on the Element come out closer to the top (at or near the little tag that says air bag). So does anybody think these covers would work on our air bag equipped Elements?

If you have a working alternative I'd certainly like to hear about it, where you got it, model number, price, etc.

Thanks

Has anybody bought Element seat covers from them(http://seatcoversunlimited.com)? In response to my inquiry about seat covers for the E with side air bags they replied: "Yes we do have a pattern for the Element to accomodate the airbags. The Scottsdale, Madrid and Vel-quilt seat covers are the most popular for that vehicle, and the Dorchester fabric is also a great choice, but we can make covers for it from any of the fabrics shown on our website."

Or if you have found another source for seat covers that allow for the side air bags in the seats them please let me know. Yes, I've searched a bunch of the seatcover threads here, but haven't found somebody who actually said "Yes, I got the correct seat covers for my side-air-bag-in-the-seat Element from...". It may have to be that plain for some of us.:-|

I have read you guy's posts so far...

Some excellent points...

On the back of the seats is a mesh type material that does cover up the bungee cord storage areas of both seats.

Thats the only bad news about these seat covers.

But I have remedied this problem with a couple of these clear away car organizers that attach over the backs of the neoprene head rests.

http://www.caraccessories.com/buy/509/clear_away_car_organizer.html

As far as the slits for the side air bags go...

You can keep open most all of that velcro slit by adding velcro fuzz over the top of the original velcro to keep it from sticking. Then down at the bottom by the floor board you can close the strip.

Those air bags are so powerful that they would bust thru that half attached velcro instantly. (my opinion)

From the diagrams that I have seen the side air bags are near the tops of the seats.
So it looks like the slit has them covered for an opening.

The whole idea is to slow down some when going thru intersections so you don't get T-Boned. :-D

sinclue

Judging from the order form on their website (shearcomfort.com) the velcro attachment for the air bags is an additional cost. Is there enough slack in the seatcover for the slit to be closed even without the velcro? If so, that possibly would take care of appearance issues and the possibility of the velcro causing the airbag to hang up.

tango
07-05-2006, 06:40 PM
A little velcro is not going to stop or "hang up" the side airbags - they blow with a tremendous amount of pressure - enough to nudge a 200lb human out of the way. I went to a demo done by Lincoln and trust me - velcro strips are going to have no effect on the side airbag. On Lincoln cars the bag blows thru a special lightweight seam in the seatcover so velcro is nothing in comparison.
Once you see how hard and fast the airbags blow thru a bag compliant leather seat seam in person you no longer worry about air bag compliant seat covers (designed for side airbags) being an impediment.

Wet Okole does seat covers for the E (front and back) that are made to accomodate the side airbags - and yes they say that specifically and ask if you have side airbags when you order. They are pricier but they are pretty much waterproof and stain proof and come in great colors. Every set of covers is custom - you get exactly the color combo you want. If they didn't cover/eliminate the seatback bungees I would have already ordered a set. IMHO these are the BEST after market seat covers made for the E.

I like the idea of the crud-proof seats but I felt like I was sitting on a garbage bag (not breathable) with the 90% humidity here in the summers. I've got sheepskin covers on now that I cut the sides off of to allow room for the side airbags. Some people think sheepskins are tacky but I love them and think they're super comfy all year round! Hope you find something!

The side airbags wouldn't be very good if they couldn't blow thru some velcro - especially since on most cars they blow thru a break-away side seam on the seat that is much tougher than velcro. I would take my chances with the velcro - a side airbag is made to literally push an adult body off the door so I am betting they will work just fine with the Wet Okole covers. I went to a demo of airbags once and you cannot imagine how fast and how hard those things go off.

Of course Wet Okole has a CYA clause. Who these days doesn't? The WORLD is covered by a CYA clause.;-)

Sorry Tango I must disagree! Air bags are filled from a chemical reaction that poduces a gas thats very hot, and not very good for you. The bag may deploy correctly through velcro, but it might rip and cause burns and lung problems, and it could delay or cause the bag to deviate from its originally designed path. I wouldn't ever recomend messing around with the air bags where you could change there designed parameters! It could cause injury or death! Sorry, this is about the only thing I feel people should not mess around with in their cars, other than disabling and removing!:|

I know they are powerful and fast and could most likely easily over whelm the velcro, but a situation like this could create a real problem! I've seen many things like this in my line of work, and If I have learned anything, what can go wrong, will go wrong. Even if the chances are micro!

I agree with Tooljedi.I work for a company that supplies airbag "inflators"to the largest producer of airbags in the world and know for a fact that these things explode with such force and incredible speed that one should never hinder or tamper with them.It is a chemical mini explosion at very high temperatures. They are coated with an abrasive type coating that prevents burn through and protects the occupant from serious injury, people still get minor scrapes from the deployment.I wouldnt want anything to be in the way of an airbag deploying.I keep my dash clear at all times for that very reason( and hate when my GF puts her feet up on the dash).Just some happy safe thoughts.

Along with power lumbar and seat warmers, I'm having the front headrests custom contoured so that they cup my head; I found that '07s pushed my head too far forward otherwise. The whole package should be ready tomorrow afternoon but the headrests are already done. I had a chance to drive with them over the weekend and having them shaved down makes a really big difference for me. The covers from Katzkin fit right over the modifications without having to be cut and resewn so that was a nice bonus. I'll try and post pics when I get everything complete.

Here's the cost breakdown. Other shops were as much as $300-$400 higher so I'm glad I looked around.

Basic Leather Kit installed: $950
Two Tone Option: $100
Honda logo embroidered on front seatbacks: $40
Power lumbar(3 chamber air bladder) installed drivers side: $295
Dual Stage Heated Seats installed on both driver and passenger sides $395

Total: $1780

This is kinda spendy but you can stop at just the basic leather for about $1000 if you want to keep things in check. I figured that if I planned on putting 100K or more on this thing, I might as well do it right from the beginning.

I really like my Wet Okoles. They're padded and waterproof. Very comfortable and made for seats with side airbags. Worth the extra money.

ditto - I had some in my previous car (subaru) and they looked like new even after 4 years of use.

just recently got some for my SC and love them...

I found realtree camo seat covers at Gander Mountain for $30 each. They are great since you can't see any stains or dog hair on them.
I had Wet Okole seat covers in my soft top Jeep and would take the top of in May and leave it of till September. Those seat covers were exsposed to everything and never faded or ripped out. I'd say worth every cent. Wish I would have kept them since they would probably fit the E's seats.

I've been wondering the same thing. Here are a few other (more expensive) options that claim to not obstruct the side airbags. Anyone have experience with any of these?

Are there any seat covers you can buy that work with the side Air Bags?

The answer is yes, Katskinz covers are made to work with the side aribags.

I've heard good reviews about Wet Okoles http://www.wetokole.com/ELEMENTF.html

Stay away from them. While some people have had good luck dealing with them, the horror stories far outweigh the good.
Take it from a guy that lives down the street from them. Dealing with them in person sucks. I couldn't imagine having a problem outside of Hawaii and trying to get things resolved through e-mail and phone calls.

Take a look at www.save-a-seat.com. These are a more temporary type of seat cover but I find they work well for me. Easy on, easy off. :)

For those looking for something different check out this place. Didn't want 1 piece covers. Finally found separate seats/backs & the price was right. I ordered the Vel-Quilt fabric. So far no complaints. They're custom made, went with the stretch back, figured it would be easier to install & it was. Didn't order head rest cover just left my last set on. I also ordered as if there was no arm rest. Was easier to remove the arm rest & cut a small hole in the fabric.

I recently installed Charcoal Sheepskin covers on my 05EX(from Shear Comfort Ltd. www.shearcomfort.com and the difference in comfort is amazing, particularly in hot weather. I just returned from a 5500 mile trip to the west coast and enjoyed them very much. They have velcro flaps for the airbag release.

Received them last week, installed over the weekend.

I like them.

Install was pretty straight forward although the last little strap was a bit of a pain. Very comfortable (especially in shorts) and I think they look pretty nice.

I'll take a couple of pics later and post them.

Very pleased for $140.

I don't think so. The edge of the seat cover runs along the front seam of the seat. It literally only goes over the base of the seat where you sit, and the front where your back goes.

Mine are the same as the picture on H&A's site. They don't cover the whole back at all, only about three or four inchies down from the top. You can see it clearly in the pic.

There are other factors involved, which may affect the airbag
operations (ie like the opds sensor in the pass seat).

Honda has this warning in the instructions:
Never install the neoprene seat covers on seats
equipped with side airbags. Failure to follow this
precaution can reduce the effectiveness of the side
airbag, resulting in serious injury or even death in
the event of collision.

I know that the Element seats are waterproof/stainproof, etc..., but I'm a big messy guy, I'm wet and muddy a lot, and I just like to have seat covers on my vehicles. So, after pouring through the forum and reading all of the comments about the various seat covers, I decided to go ahead and buy myself a pair of Wet Okoles for my front seats. I installed them this weekend, here's my review so far:

1) I don't live near one of their shops, so I ordered over the web. The web page was very clear, informative, and easy to use considering all of the options that must be considered before ordering a custom made seat cover. Grade: A

2) They called the next day after I placed my order, to confirm and clarify my order. Grade A+

3) It took an entire month for the covers to arrive. So, if you're in a hurry, or impatient, watch out! Luckily, they took so long to arrive that I entirely forgot that I had ordered them, thus when they came, it was a pleasant surprise. Grade: B-

4) Upon inspection, I found that all parts and pieces were there and that they were, in fact, the correct parts. Grade: A

5) Installation Instructions: The instructions were not specific to the Element and, in fact, the seat covers are a pain in the arse to put on. A few, Element-specific instructions/tips would have been a big help. Grade: C-

6) Technical Hotline: I had a problem with the driver's side front seat cushion cover installation and had to call for technical advice. I was able to talk to someone right away, but they really weren't that much help. It truth it wasn't their fault. The fact of the matter is that it's a pain to install the front seat cushion and it involves a lot of swearing, skinned knuckles, and time. They were helpful in letting my know, over the phone, that the seat covers were, indeed, a pain in the arse to install! Grade: B

7) Ease of Installation: I suggest at least two beers and then don't do the installation within ear-shot of young children. I never could get some of the straps buckled, but I'll try again once my knuckles stop bleeding. Grade: C

8) Fit: Well, not exactly a glove fit, but pretty damn close! Grade: A -

9) Looks: Sweet! Grade A.

10) Side Airbags: I do have side-air bags, and the Wet Okoles have a slit in the seat cover that will presumable, and hopefully, allow the airbag to expand. Grade: I'll let you know.

Finally, one of the reasons I like seat cushions is that you can take them off and wash them. Not so with these. Once on, you'll never want to take them off. Not because they're so beautiful but because you'll never want to go through the experience of putting them on again. Wet Okole suggests that you wash them in place.

5) Installation Instructions: The instructions were not specific to the Element and, in fact, the seat covers are a pain in the arse to put on. A few, Element-specific instructions/tips would have been a big help. Grade: C-

7) Ease of Installation: I suggest at least two beers and then don't do the installation within ear-shot of young children. I never could get some of the straps buckled, but I'll try again once my knuckles stop bleeding. Grade: C

I just discovered this yesterday - doing the front seats on a 2008 Element. I swore up a storm and I did actually end up with bloody knuckles! I spent close to three hours and only got about 1/2 of it done! I can't believe they didn't provide some more instructions! It's insane!

I wanted to ask you: I was just barely able to do the bottom seat covers (actually two of the straps still aren't fastened 'cause I lost one of the clips and another pulled off) I looked at the seat back covers: how did you install these? Any pointers? The reason I ask is because it looks like the original seat cover gets in the way of the straps for the Okole ones. The bottom of the original seat covers continues underneath the seat and the other end is attached with springs to the underside of the seat. I don't see how you're supposed to attach the straps of Okole cover (through the point where the seat bottom and back meet) - it looks like you have to modify something to get the original seat cover out of the way.

Did you have to modify or cut anything? How did you get the straps to the seat back fastened?

Any information is appreciated before a go for round two of this battle. If I'd known it was this difficult, I probably wouldn't have bought them...but I can't return them so I'll do my best with them.

Apart from that, they really are beautiful!

No, you don't have to modify or cut anything. First, by sliding the seat all the way forward you'll create a gap that helps ease the strap through. I can't remember exactly how it worked, but one strap goes under that fabric and one strap goes between the fabric. Hard to describe, but the seat fabric is attached with velcro behind the seat (near the floor) and you can rip the velcro apart to get a hand in to pull the straps around. Anyway, you'll figure it out. I had the same reaction that you had until I slid the seat forward and undid the velcro.

It's dark and raining outside right now, so I didn't look too closely. If you don't figure it out with the very lame tips that I've given, I'll take a closer look during the day when it's not pouring rain!

I also lost a clip when I was trying to fasten the bottom cushion, so I don't have all of the straps fastened either!

The seat back cushion cover is MUCH easier. Shove the seat forward. It will create a gap. You can then slide the back rear straps under the seat, then reach around from the front (you'll have to slide the seat forward a bit), and clip them to the where the real seat cover connects to the springs. The straps that go between the rear back cushion and seat cushion just slides down between the seat fabric and can be grabbed from the front too.

So I wanted to try out the idea posted here about adding a layer of foam under a set of aftermarket seat covers to try and make our park benches more comfortable.

But being a cheap a$$ sometimes I didn't want to drop the $100-300 for one of the "good" seat covers to try this out. Let me insert I'm not a fan of seat covers, nothing put on top is generally as well finished as what the factory intended......but there are always mitigating circumstances.

I really didn't like anything in the $30-40 range I found at the local Pep-Boys, so after a morning spent on the internet I decided to buy these from an ebay seller. The description leaves a LOT to be desired and if not for their much more expensive other sets that show the same graphic and tout that they are specifically patterned and sown for your car would I have pulled the trigger.

Exact Fit Seat Covers (http://stores.ebay.com/Exact-Fit-Seat-Covers) - There is a link to their ebay store as I'm sure if I just posted the link to my item it won't work in a week or 2.

What I got was a set of very thick velour (I wanted the "endura" (canvas?) ones they mention in the ad but it's not exactly clear if this is a choice and apparently it's not) Covers, they fit very tightly over the stock seats and if I had to guess they made the pattern from the Honda available set. I ended up unbolting the seats to get the underside strapping on there, tight and concealed easier.

I waited a week to post this so I had a small amount of live with them time. The foam thing didn't work out for me, save for a small piece I left at the small of my back for a bit of lumbar support which does help. It just made the seats puffier but somehow more ackward and uncomfortable.

So I'm saying if you have cracked seats, or just like covers to protect the factory these seem to be a pretty nice and fairly inexpensive choice. Could they be better? I'm sure, but not sure how really and still be removeable seat covers. I'm still not used to the fact that you don't slide across them to get in as well (the velour grabs at your clothes as you slide in). I do VERY MUCH like that as the Honda available ones they are clearly meant to not mess with the side air bags, and the color matches very nicely!

Sorry, completely forgot, I got them for $35 from the ebay seller. They have full sets front and back for as much as $1xx and if I could get the Canvas Material for a few $ more in retrospect I'd have done that but...... :)

I recently purchased a set of front and rear GT Seat Covers for my 2010. I choose to go with light grey with dark grey inserts. Grading is totally my personal opinion (everyone has their own). Pics are below.

Cost/Grade: A, Comparable to Wet Okole and all other similar seat cover manufacturers.

Shipping/Grade: A+, Considering that these are not off the shelf and custom built to order, it took 6 days from the time of order to the arrival at my doorstep.

Quality/Grade: A, Stitching and material all appear to be of the best quality. I looked at all the of the seams and can't find anything wrong. There is no colored piping, just reversed folded over seems.

Material/Grade: B+, color could have been a bit better. I don't think that the light gray really is light gray, it could be argued it's almost blue. As for water repellant, nothing penetrated after letting a puddle of water sit for 15 minutes. Note 1, the material doesn't stretch a millimeter. Note 2, I cut myself installing the front and some blood sat on the seat for about 10 minutes, long enough to dry (it was a thin layer). It came right out with just water and a rag.

Instructions/Grade: F, While I understand the cost implications associated with producing unique instructions for each of every vehicle someone ordered a set of covers for, but what was provided was totally worthless. You might as well not even send them. I had to figure it out on my own (not a big deal as I am an engineer).

Ease of installation/Grade: C, I imagine with all of the various seat covers, they are all a PITA to install as they are all tight. Not being tight would not look good when installed. Rears where easy to install but should be done with the seats out of the vehicle. Front where done with the seats in the vehicle, but really would have been easier out of the vehicle. Getting under the fronts to pass the seat back and seat bottom as it wraps/ties together was a HUGE challenge. Also the interference between the stock seat back cover as it wraps under the seat makes it a bit difficult to install the wrap around feature for the seat bottom. I was not able to disconnect the stock attachment springs. It's doable but takes some time to figure it out.

Couple of complaints:
Fronts - there is a mistake in the pattern. There is no cut out for the seat beat to retract into it's location in the seat bottom. I had to cut a slot in the material (not visible from the outside) otherwise the material bunched up on the belt and the belt won't retract.

Rears - there is another mistake in the pattern. There needs to be a cut out slit where the hinge slips between the cover and it can velcro together (shown below). I wasn't about to try to remove the seat back from the seat bottom just to install the cover. It just cut out this to slip on both sides of the hinge. It velcros together.

Both F & R - Because the material doesn't stretch and it's tight, the seat back attachment at the bottom isn't connected via the provided velcro. It just won't stretch.

Side air bags - there is a side airbag cut out in the seat. I assume that they have done their homework and it will not prevent the airbag from deploying.

Overall. B- to C+ Based solely what I see on the site, I think I'd go with Wet Okole, especially if you want them to look good for the bling bling factor. I am all about function over form, so it doesn't matter much to me. I am good with them.

Questions, let me know (I don't think I missed anything). Thanks!

These are the same as CoverKing seat covers. If you search around lots of folks here have them and like them. I bought a neoprene set from Auto Accessories Garage for about the same price, maybe less. They fit well and match the colors in the E nicely (I got black with Charcoal inset). They're worth the money for sure.

Yes, cracking seat covers. How about those OEM seat covers? they're less than half the price of the custom covers, and the custom covers appears to be fraught with installation problems and customer service issues.

Has anyone out there tried the OEM covers? they're pretty spiffy-looking....but are they garbage?

any info welcome. thanks.

ps: desert play is my passion (interior dunes, not beach dunes), and no wet dogs or dog claws to worry about (just cats screaming from their carriers)

I installed the oem neoprene covers on our 04 element, my dad had ripped the oem seatcover.

All in all they are nice, cover about 95% of the seat, the sides do tend to "roll up" , like when you get in the car they roll towards the center of the seat since they dont cover the whole seat, just the front fascia

If that doesn't make sense lemme know and i'll take some pix

I've been looking for a rear seat cover for a while, thanks to my drooling pooch. Was sold on Wet Okole based on forum reviews, but the sales guy at Autoanything said Cal Trend was just as good and roughly $50 cheaper, with a coupon. So, I went with Cal Trend, which was a mistake.
I was initially impressed because a Cal Trend rep called me the day after placing my order. Since I wasn't sure which color -- light gray or charcoal -- would best match the gray interior of my 2010 Element, she suggested I look at some swatches, which, said she, I would receive in a couple of days. I received the swatches two weeks later after repeated calls to both Cal Trend and Autoanything. That should have been the first indicator that Cal Trend is a shoddy company. However, since I had already paid and my cc was charged, I went ahead with the order, going with charcoal.
Shipping took about another week and a half, upping my wait time to about a month. Upon receiving the covers, the instructions were not Element specific so I basically had to guess where all the velcro straps went -- apparently they attach directly to the car's carpet fabric, which I'm not a fan.
Secondly, there are no slits for the rear seat belts on the bottom cushions. I called CalTrend and spoke with Caesar. He said he'd look into it and call back in a "couple of minutes." No call back, so I called him two hours later.
He insisted there were seat belt slits -- the only slits on the bottom seat cover are for the child seat brackets -- and would email me pictures of their demo right away. The email never came, and I don't expect to ever receive it.
While these covers were $50 cheaper than the Wet Okole covers, I still paid $186 shipped. For that price, I expect a little better customer service. All I'm looking for is how to properly install this cover -- don't think it's too much to ask. With all the different companies out there, I'm surprised how inept these people are.

I agree that I hate the fact that the covers velcro to the seat material. CoverKings are the same way. Also came with generic instructions for all vehicles. It took me 10 minutes just to figure out how to orientate them.

I have had my neoprene seat covers from Coverking since the the beginning of 2008. There's approximately 50,000 miles of wear and tear on them and the fit and finish are very good. They have held up very well with the exception of some color fading. I order the two tone seat covers choosing the black and charcoal combination. The charcoal color neoprene is fading due to Sun exposure. The black neoprene still looks new. The E's windows are not that great in blocking out the UV rays. I would highly recommend just getting black.
The neoprene covers offers a much softer surface than the stock ones. They are very easy to install and utilizes both velcro and some hooks.
They are very easy to clean but my wife constantly spills coffee on them so I only clean them once a month or so.
I purchase both front and back seat covers but ended up returning the back covers because I didn't like the fit and design of them.
I purchased the covers thru Costco's website. They will have them on sale from November 1-30. Front covers for $139 delivered, front and rear for $269 delivered.
IMO the Coverkings are the best for the money since the entire cover is made of neoprene. A lot of the other brands uses fabric on the backs and sides of the seats to cut down on cost. These are also designed to work with the side air bags. The Coverkings covers include the headrest and armrest covers too. Best of all, if you purchase thru Costco(as a member) you can return them with no hassle or re-stocking fee.

Jean Seat Intl., Hollywood FL (you can google it) sells denim seat covers (among other fabric choices) for Elements (Accords, Civics, etc.). They are a good, but not perfect, fit. (Remember, it's denim.) I've owned several sets over the years, and have never wore any of them out. They are also machine washable, a real plus. $120 or so, and they work with airbag seats. The company has been in business for years and is very reliable and easy to deal with.

I found another option online last night after posting this thread:

There appears to be an option for E's with air bags. Any one have experience with this kind of cover? I've also looked at the Coverking and Wet Okole versions (both a bit more expensive). I've got dogs, so I'll need something that's both tough and easily cleaned on a pretty frequent basis.

hmm correct me if im wrong but i dont think the side air bag should be a problem. well with the universal ones. though im awaiting a confirm by smittybilt. if you look you can bypass the area where the side airbags will be. if you look at the instructions. http://www.smittybilt.com/docs/installation/5661301.pdf i guess fortunately for me the seatbelts are not a problem with me. i have a 05. but i wonder if there will be enough support on the bottoms and tops to keep the cover secure since its a large area thats being bypassed.

I just picked up a new drivers seat cover at Costco. They are sheepskin, 2 colors (grey seems best) and cost about $56. The seatcovers say they have special stitching on the side so that the side airbags work. This has held me back from buying anything in the past.

A quick install in the parking lot (so I could either keep it or return it immediately) indicates the fit is pretty darn good. There is even a large pocket in the back. It appears I will have to either slit the side or remove/cut a hole and replace to accomodate the arm rest. Also, cut 2 tiny slits in the top so the head rest can go back on.

I have the infamous cracked seat so this will cover it up and also be warmer in the winter. BTW, I used shoe-goo to repair my cracked seat: function good, cosmetically bad! Does shoe-goo come in grey?

Has anyone else tried these seat covers and offer any tips to make them fit the best? Does the arm rest go on/off easily?

Triglav, what brand are the covers? Coverking or something else? Costco-sourced covers are discussed in posts 24 (http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?p=65188), 72 (http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?p=849083) and 84 (http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?p=889491), but they were of the neoprene variety.

(feel free to shift me if I missed a thread)

My front seat cracked upholstery has gone critical. I need ideas for an upgrade. Generally, I really like things when I SEE a sample, and it fits in my budget. The budget is currently undetermined (but not high), and I am looking to do both front seats. I AM aware of the Honda Neoprene front seat covers. I am NOT looking for a generic ebay cover that HAPPENS to fit the Element nicely, unless it looks REALLY good.

I was hoping some of you guys would post some nice pics of your fancy seats, some info, and general idea of cost.

GGM especially ;) Thanks.

There is a company on Ebay that offers leather (fake too) reupholstery kits. They are not a seat cover, and are a real PITA to install but the seat comes out looking like an OEM leather seat. Ive used them on a couple other cars and they are great.

Had thought about doing it to my GGM E, but I cant stand the stock seats & plan on going with a different seat altogether. I know Ive seen pics of them on here, but the seller does show actual pics of an E with full setup (fronts & rears done)

You can post up the seller name. No problem with that.

I was going to get an Element with Side Air Bags next year... :-(

Thanks, that's the exact kind of info I am looking for.

I forgot these would all cover the seatback pocket (which I never use), although some have a replacement.

It wont be a problem, just make sure you get seat covers that will work.
The Clazzio and the Wet Okole both make covers that will work with the
side airbag. Both wickster and Berto2k have side airbags on their Es. Both
also make seat covers for the Es with the seat belts in the seats or without
the seat belts in the seats. It seems that they are both super high quality.
They wont be cheap, but high quality never is. Keep us posted on what you
decide to do!!

I've been doing a lot of browsing in the $0-$280 range, and I'm not coming up with a lot of options for GREEN innerpanels/piping/stitching that would match the GGM. Little help (if anybody found something matching)?

Clazzio PVC vs. Coverking Leatherette?

Any opinions on material alone? I heard they were comparable, but I know nothing personally.

Fine, fine, since you all asked for it, I will post a 4th time in a row.

Clazzio said no to '03-'06 Element, but I politely pushed the issue, and this is what I got back. If I hear more, I will post it.

From: Legioss
Please forward my request to the appropriate department. The 03-06
Elements have a known problem with the driver seat upholstery cracking
open, so there is a greater market for sales. Also, the rear seats are
the same design as the 07+, so you're already halfway there.
Thanks

From: Clazzio Rep
Just wanted to let you know that I forwarded this to the manufacturer, and
they didn't just say No like they usually do... He said he forwarded the
request to the R&D guys... This may not mean much, but it's definitely
more than they usually do...

Thanks
Brandon

Who knows what happens next, if anything? I was currently undecided between Coverking Leatherette, and Coverking [full] Leather. Maybe I will let it sit for a bit? (No pun intended).

Here's a pic of the damage BTW. I haven't cleaned the seat for a LONG TIME either.

P.S. If you order [free] the sample swatches mailer, it comes with a $20 off code for your order (at least mine did).

That picture of the driver's seat looks just like mine. I received my Coverking Tactical black seat covers with molle attachments on the backs today. Here are some pics. A box of 30-30 ammo that I found under the seat fits nicely in the top left pocket. I'm sure to fill the others up soon. Maybe I can get a little more organized now.

A picture of the front of the seats.

What type of material is the actual seating surface made of? Cordura? Do you like them? The pics make the covers appear to fit fairly loose. Is this the case in reality? I know Cordura to be tough, but what about resistant to mud, stains, etc.?

Thanks. I was all set to move forward (well, waiting on possible EOC discount) this Wet Okole, but I am intrigued by these.

We have RuffTuff seat covers on our truck. I asked them about making covers for the E and she said they have the pattern as they use the E for their business. Located in SLC.

I got my 2010 EX in Feb 2012. It has the Titanium seats, which show stains easily. As I plan to use the vehicle for many years to come, I'd like to install seat covers (OEM will not work because of side air bags).
Which are
- best fitting ?
- longest lasting ?
- easy to care for/stain-wear-resistant ?
- neoprene or something else (not leather) ?

I was considering Wet Okole. Options for lumbar support and heating are intriguing, tho the upfront price puts me off a tad. Then again, if I keep the vehicle as long as I plan, well, maybe it's a worthwhile investment, pending responses from the nice, helpful people here.

Thanks, -- Biggs

Hey everyone,

Been reading through this thread and checking out all the seat cover links. Like others, my driver's seat base is cracking from driving it all the time, lol. I was thinking of making my own seat covers (don't like the options available from the links), and was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a pattern to make the seat covers from.

Thanks!

Zuffen, I'm not sure whether you mean covers that go over the OEM fabric or replacement fabric.

H and A has the Honda neoprene seat covers here (http://www.handa-accessories.com/elementint.html).

For replacement fabric, see this thread: OEM seat cover, replacing or repairing (http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60332)

Well, I TRIED to get an update on when/if they would be available, and they didn't answer. I pressed the issue again, and now I get the old "07+" line. Oh well. Wish they hadn't gotten my hopes up. I'll try my other contact again too.
