So I bought this barrier that hooks onto your back seat from petsmart (I think) for like $50.00 with shipping. It has the secondary part that you can add to make it higher. Its made of a balistic (sp) type material. Seemed really strong and rugged.
It took me a few weeks to get it set up as its been sooooo cold here and I kept putting it off.
The first day I took my pup out (weimaraner)(12 weeks old)
he was frantic. I figured...ok, no problem, he will get over it.
I went into the house, came out 10 minutes later and he was sitting in the front seat!!!!!! Both back seats were UP! SOOOOO here I am in Jackson Wyoming, 2 hours from the nearest big city, wondering what my options are besides the crate.
Can I order a bar type barrier on the internet? could someone make a suggestion? I am thinking I would mount it right behind the front seats.
thanks...I did do a search here on the forums

You might want to do something like this::

I know you can order them from petco (http://www.petco.com/Shop/petco_SearchResults_Nav_1_Ntt_barrier_N_30+5763.as px), probably petsmart (http://www.petsmart.com/global/search/search_results.jsp?Ntt=barrier&In=All&previousText=barrier&N=2032883) too, I guess about any online pet store really.

I looked at those...the problem I see right now is that even tho my devil is tall, he is still thin/his head is small.
I can see him getting his head stuck!!!!

ok, well maybe something like this (http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?R=2735&Nav=1&Ntt=barrier&N=30+5763&sku=36773&familyID=9813&) or this (http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444177 8311&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302032883&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023689&bmUID=1169925830891&itemNo=2&Ntt=barrier&In=All&previousText=barrier&N=2032883) then? Neither of them are the tube type - more of a wire mesh? Again, I'm certain these are available at about any online pet supply store.

Jacksongirl:
I called the local PetSmart to get one of the 'heavy duty' nylon barriers with the 'small' flip up extension. Luckily they didn't carry them, since I'm sure my Doberman could also 'hop the space'. What I'm working on is a heavy duty screen (left over from a pool enclosure) with a nylon webbing border. The bottom half will be 'bottom of the headrest' high while driving; when I park, the second half will flip up and fit between the overhead 'hand grips'. Hope this will be enough to keep him in the back without installing 'THE BARS'. The screening can be 'rolled-up' when not used for storage. It will fasten to the headrest posts (middle), seat bottom & side door pockets (bottom), and the 'hand grips' (top). Working on it today, will post pictures when done. Need it for a trip next weekend.

I've tried the big net barrier and the best solution for me has been putting Gidget (samoyed) in a harness and hooking that to one of the tie down loops in the back of the Element (near the floor).

Safer in case of an accident, too.

Good luck. Wish I were in Jackson Hole!

Here's what Costco is offering right now (http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11184582&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&N=4000486&Mo=48&No=16&ViewAll=49&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&cat=1482&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&Sp=C&topnav=). Looks like both the height and width expand.

We use the seatbelt harness with the leash attached to it and hooked to the grab handles, although may consider the floor hooks next time.

Put the pup in a crate or in a harness that the seatbelt goes through, please. Anything else is on safe for both you and the pup

These work really well, I got mine from Petsmart, but you can get them about anywhere.
