But the majority of people's systems I have heard with subs have the subs turned up so high that they sound ridiculous at low volume. The loudness control on a stereo (boosts lows and highs) is designed for low volume listening. At lower volume levels the ear (our brains actually) focus on the midrange more than the whole signal. So turning the loudness on or the bass up a little, esp. with a sub can sound very good at low volumes. It actually sounds more natural. But after listening at very high volumes for a very long time none of this will matter. Everything will sound like low volume. audionut 02-16-2007, 03:04 AM Oh yeah, the JL's. What a tease. Overall I do believe that adding a sub or two will increase the sound quality as long as you use them rationally. Some people turn it up so loud its bad for you but if you accent your current stereo then it makes all you music a ton more enjoyable.
