JL Audio

I know you guys like to read about the latest stuff coming out. JL has 2 new thin (shallow depth) subwoofers coming out this year. A 12" and a 13" with a mounting depth of 2.5".

Thin subs, same great hearing loss?

OK seriously, aside from shaking apart the vehicle, do sub woofers add anything to sound quality if played at * gasp * low volume?

yes, yes they do...at least after spending the money I tell myself that...then again, I dont own them yet for the element...I wonder if these will be better than the pioneer shallow mounts...

:D :D :D

Yep they do. But the majority of people's systems I have heard with subs have the subs turned up so high that they sound ridiculous at low volume.

The loudness control on a stereo (boosts lows and highs) is designed for low volume listening. At lower volume levels the ear (our brains actually) focus on the midrange more than the whole signal. So turning the loudness on or the bass up a little, esp. with a sub can sound very good at low volumes. It actually sounds more natural.

But after listening at very high volumes for a very long time none of this will matter. Everything will sound like low volume.

Oh yeah, the JL's.

What a tease. From what I see they are not coming out until mid summer. I can't wait that long.

Overall I do believe that adding a sub or two will increase the sound quality as long as you use them rationally. Some people turn it up so loud its bad for you but if you accent your current stereo then it makes all you music a ton more enjoyable.

*points to his EX's stock subwoofer* obviously sub's can sound good enough for Honda to integrate one into the E's system. :-D
