Hello.
I am new here, and while I dont own a Honda, I still was just browsing the web lookin for reviews on the tires I bought. Its actually wierd. I have been researching tires for over a year, and since my budget is pretty low, I wanted a well rounded tire, with an aggressive look, as well at good performance.
I own a 2004 Ford Ranger XLT. See pics below. I belong to a few ranger forums, and have asked many questions regarding tires. The stock tire on the Ranger is the Goodyear Wrangler RTS tires. I can tell you first hand THEY SUCK. Ya, so anyways, it seems to me that the general consensus(sp) regarding AT tires is to stay as far away from General tires as possible. However, after reading hundreds of reviews, I have read 99% of all reviews on Google regarding these tires, those who were 'brave' and gave them a shot are pretty happy campers. And since I am a cheap kinda person, and broke, and was riding around on nearly bald tires, in Buffalo NY, I needed tires, and here are MY requirements:
Performance on and offroad.
Aggressive Look.
Bigger than stock
and cheap.
These perameters leave out the highly rated BFG's. Personnally I have never owned a set. so. How do I like my Grabbers? I LOVE THEM They simply ROCK. They handle quite well in snow over 2ft deep, and also wet road they stick to the road like glue. While GO traction in 2wd is a lil fish tailing, due to my bed being empty and VERY light, stopping traction is UNBELIEVABLE. I hit the brake on very snow packed roads and these tires dig right in. they stop my truck on snowy roads as if I were on dry roads. Same with stopping in deep snow.
I have about 1000 miles on these tires, and went o a place that I know is solid ice. Ice traction is 'ok' but what cant a rubber tire really do on clean solid shiny ice with no studs. With gental pressure on the gas they move the truck with hardly any spinnage. Which is surprising.
Road noise, and overall dry pavement performance is excellent. the tires arent really very load at all, nothing a turn of the radio knob cant solve. They really do stick to the road like glue, and my truck, which sits higher than your Honda's has significantly less 'leen' when cornering at high speeds. Now, I am not saying the risk of flipping isnt there, but the feel of control over the vehical is alot better than my stock goodyears even when they were new. I would also like to point out something else I have noticed to be a HUGE improvement. because my ranger is VERY light in the rear, when ever I hit man hole covers with my stockers, my butt end of my truck would literally jump all over the road. with these generals, they stick to the road like glue and I no longer have that jumpiness.
I paid $435 shipped to my door for 265/70/16's thats a 4 ply tire. the 256/75's are ten ply, as are the 245/75's. The 10 ply is an EXTREMELY harsh ride.
BFG ATs in the same size would have cost me close to $740 shipped. So far these tires have floored me in their performance, and I cant wait till spring to test them out in the mud.
As for the self cleaning.... many folks have said they self clean in mud better than the BFG's. this may be due to the tread pattern differnec. if you compare the two, you will notice the Generals, have a more 'go with the flow' tread pattern where as the BFGs block the 'flow' with their cross bars. Now, I have never owned BFG's so I dont know, but so far I am tickled pink with these tires.
As far as looks, I think they look alot beefier and meaner than the BFG's. Pictures REALLY dont show how mean these tires look. they really look awsome in person.
Also, BFG's have no warranty. Generals have a 60,000 mile warranty.

Some of you may be asking yourselves, why, would a non honda element owner post this here? Because, there is great hype for those over priced BFG's, and theres an excellent alternative. and I think the word should get out that these are awsome tires.
Final note. The General Grabber AT2's I believe, came out in early 2004. They are a totally new design that the orginal Grabber, which has absolute crap reveiws. Does this mean all General tires are bad? NO. The BFG Long Trail tires suck in the snow. and are crappy enthusiast tires.. does that make all BFG tires bad? NO.
