Got them through the Tire Factory, 225/70/16's, not the cheapest but it's what I wanted. I'll post back in a couple of weeks when I get more wet/slick condition driving on them.

Got a few thousand klicks on my WRs now, and I have to give them a solid thumbs-up in rain and snow. I live in a rainy place and often travel for work to snowy places; the difference from using the stock tires in winter is significant. I feel safe in my E in the rain/snow, now. Still carry my two sets of chains, though, for the mountains.

i have 30k miles on mine now, and they are still great. had them in 6 inches of fresh powder a few weeks ago, and they still stick. don't even see much appearent wear (though i have not measured the tread depth)

Mine are past 50,000 and I have loved every single mile with them. :) I'll be picking up another set of them in April or May. I've been using Nokian's since 1999 without any regrets at all. I have close to 200,000 miles logged on them without a single issue in all types of weather conditions. Even got my Mom hooked on them that she wants them on her next car after I got them for her on her Camry. lol

Now there is a choice you will be happy with for a long time!

I could tell you a long story about how much we ( the wife and I ) hated the stock tires. and expound on the trials and trivialisations of replacing them.

Suffice it to say, That the wife has them on her E, and I have Triple treads on mine.

I wish I had the Nokians. Wonderful tire! Good in all conditions. Quiet. compared with my GY's. Smoother riding also.

speed: are they noticeably worn out at 50k? how much tread depth have you lost/left? can you still see the sipping in the blocks?

maybe since i'm at 30k i should go measure mine...

Just saw this post because I am not starting to shop around looking for the best possible price on a new set of Nokian WR SUVs.

I am around 53,000 right now. The tires are pretty worn down, but not illegal. Don't know what the tread depth is because I haven't measured it. Many of the sipes are gone but some are still noticable. I know I need to replace them within the next month, June the latest.

I sent an email to Tire Factory.com and am waiting for a price quote. Tiresbyweb.com has them for $129/ea with Free shipping! They do try to get you to buy chrome valve stems and tire insurance, which I'd skip personally.

I have read alot about how well these tires do in the wet and the snow. I am wondering how they are in the dry. Do they have a little bit of the "snow tire" vagueness when cornering, or changing lanes?

They are less vague than the stock tires. I have run a road coarse with the stock tires and with the Nokians. The Nokians ran the same track a shade over 2 seconds faster. I have also run the triple treads on the same track. They are only a slight improvement over the stock tires. They are not as good in the high speed turns.

I now have a set of Foteras on my E. I am waiting for a chance to run them on the same track. I'll let you know.

Thanks for the feedback, Dom. I would like a set of these tires as we get a lot of snow in our area in the winter.

Hold off on getting them for a couple days. I'm working on a group buy for these at a really good price. :)

For what it's worth , my nokians have a tread wear indicator on the inside tread , pretty simple of 8 , 6 , 4 . After almost 20,000 since installed , still shows the 8 and those little pins around the edges ! I paid 119 each @ the Tire factory with free shipping , they were 129 but I mentioned the EOC and they took off 10 each !

Larry , I'm interested in the group buy , but are you getting the 225 or 235 's
the way these puppies perform , I might be interested in a second set !

I think I currently have the 225's because that's all Nokian was importing back then. I will go back to the stock size of 215 since they are available now. Maybe I'll gain a tenth or two in mpg.

I just got these tires and let me say they are great!

I had over 63,000 miles on the Goodyear Wranglers so those tires did not owe me anything. Sure they were "talking" for the last 10,000 miles but they did the job and I never had a flat tire. [note: I did rotate them regularly]

I went with the Nokians with noise reduction being my top priority and let me say these tires are quieter then the stock tires.

Here is how I can tell:
I use my cell phone through my mp3 port [via a radio shack adaptor]. Normally I have to have the car’s radio at full volume to hear my wife. With the new tires, I now have the volume at 90% and I can hear her just fine.
Also, I am now hearing wind noise at speeds over 40mph that I never noticed before. I will now have to get used to that.
When I do not have the radio on, I do feel the car is quieter, so yes these tires are quite.

Note: I bought the same size tires as the stock ones.

Many people have said how great these tires are in the rain and snow. I do not know about snow because I just got them, but I did a few days traveling in some heavy and then some very heavy rain last weekend in upstate NY, and these tires handled great!

I did not think I would be able to notice the cars improved handling that these tires are supposed to bring, but I was wrong.
I drove through some big rain on the highway and puddles that should have made the car hydroplane, had little effect on the car.
By the end of the weekend, I was taking turns faster then I can ever remember [that might be a bad thing], but the point is, yes these Nokian WR tires live up to the hype.

I did all my tire research here on the forum, so let me take a moment to thank everyone for their support.

I had to go through an STS tire store [In NJ] to get them, and they took a week to get them in stock for me –special order item. I paid $132 per tire, with the total bill for the 4 tires mounted with tax came out to $639.23.

This was more then I dreamed of spending on new tires, but now that I have a quieter Element that drives better, I am a happy man.
My only regret is I did not get new tires sooner.

The Canadian Driver Online Magazine review of Nokian WR tires is one of the main reasons I decided to get them for my "E". Check out the review, you'll be glad you did.

$122. Sorry for the excited post. I was quite tired when I found those, didn't even look for the size! Thanks for the reality check.

Go into the Group Buy forum towards the bottom of the site and you'll see an even better price with free shipping that I arranged on Nokian Tyres. :)

also, since you are in SLC, you should call up the local Tire Factory store.

I bargained with the one in eugene, OR, and got my wr-suv installed for $600 OTD, including lifetime rotations and flat fix.

that's about the same as $125 each plus the installation fee if you have them shipped to you.

Great idea. We're moving to OR so it'd be nice to have a national chain do it like Tire Factory. Thanks for the advice.

unfortunately, they are *not* a national chain. just northwest mostly. and i think that they are franchises, but that is nice because the local guys i've dealt with take a lot of pride in their shops/work.

they only go halfway down in california, so i've had to pay for the nail removal and rotation down here, but always stop by the shop when i'm up north.
