Elemental Glory 03-17-2007, 05:50 PM hey folks!! where can i find roof racks and narf bars for h.Elemts 03 i want put some on my boy but i was looking 4 some r so expensive, do you have a place where i can find some resonable prices for this parts? First off they are side steps or Nerf bars. Second I thought it is funny you ask because I just bought my side steps and I am in the process of buying a Yakima roof rack. A yakima roof rack is stronger and will come out to about the same price as an OEM one. The side steps I purchased on eBay for 240.99. Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/03-06-HONDA-ELEMENT-SIDE-STEP-NERF-BARS-BLACK-OVAL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33650QQitemZ250094 027773QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Good luck CALJON 03-21-2007, 04:16 AM Thule has a higher load capacity than Yakima. The square bars are stronger. I just bought a Thule, I belong to a bike club and used the 10% discount you usually get for your membership. So, if you belong to one that's a bonus. :) paulj 03-21-2007, 10:40 AM Thule has a higher load capacity than Yakima. The square bars are stronger. Can you quote the numbers - with vehicle specific fine print? Regarding the bar strength, is that based on tests, or just someone's opinion? paulj Speedy Toaster Dave 03-21-2007, 10:48 AM Narf bars on ya Boy is'nt there laws against that... PopUpSteve 03-21-2007, 11:10 AM Thule has a higher load capacity than Yakima. The square bars are stronger. Funny, I aways thought that the round bars were stronger, you know like an arch distributing the load evenly around the bar. And although my "E" does not travel at warp speed, the round bars would seem to be more aerodynamic. Not that it would make a big difference on an "E". Elemental Glory 03-21-2007, 11:20 AM for the rack go to www.rackwarehouse.com CALJON 03-22-2007, 01:59 AM Just going by the ratings from the mouths of the makers, Yak is 125 and Thule 165. I'm sure the distance between the towers and thickness of the walls on the bars being used make a difference. If you read Yak web site they say round is stronger than square. But they are rated 40 lbs less??? paulj 03-22-2007, 11:35 AM The weight limit for both Yakima and Thule racks, using the classic raingutter mounts, is 165 lb. This is an indication of the relative strength of their bars - though the strength of the feet also matters. Do they make any adjustment for using different feet on the Element? I found this Thule FAQ Thank you for your inquiry. The CRV requires the 430 Tracker II Foot Pack, the Tracker Kit TK8 and a pair of 50" Load Bars and is rated at 150lbs for weight. I wonder what Yakima would say for the same vehicle - in Europe. Further, both defer to Honda: Any load extending over the windshield (except luggage boxes) must be secured to both the front and rear of the vehicle, in addition to the rack. The total weight of the racks and loads must not exceed Yakima's weight limit for that vehicle's factory rack. Tracker applications may have lower weight limitations. Check Thule's Load Capability Chart for approved loads and do not exceed factory rack weight limitations. My conclusion is that Yakima and Thule bars are of comparable strength, and stiffer than the factory bars. All 3 mount to the same pads on the Element, and the strength of the mounting system is similar. All three racks will affect stability in the same way. paulj CALJON 03-22-2007, 04:34 PM Is it worth arguing anymore???    Maybe they should hire you. I bought a Thule, I like it very much. Dispute that. Oh, I found the same info that you did. Where was their 165 or 150 max? Sorry for try to give input, next time I'll run it through you. PopUpSteve 03-22-2007, 06:03 PM Got this from Yakima today: Thank you for contacting Yakima Customer Support, Round bars offer the advantage of automatically accommodating loads on curved roofs (i.e. all cars), allow accessories to be rotated flat when not in use for improved aerodynamics and overhead clearance. Our bars are also about 15% stronger than competitive rectangular bars, making the rack more rigid and durable. Thank you for your inquiry! Yakima Support b23 03-22-2007, 07:29 PM i just took my thule rack off my 2005 element, as i just bought my 07se.. so i have the load bars (square) and foot kit (with grey trip pieces) for sale... best offer. i'm keeping the bike carriers and going to put them on a honda rack that is made for my new element. message me if you want them, they are located in lawrence ks. :) paulj 03-22-2007, 07:39 PM I bought a Thule, I like it very much.... Where was their 165 or 150 max? ... Sometimes I get picky when it comes to numbers :) I found the 150 limit via Thule's 'question' section. Otherwise the instructions for the Tracker II towers differ to the car manufacturer's limit. However, at least in the USA, those limits are strongly influenced by liability concerns. I have had Yakima bars for years; my Element rack is derived from a Yakima raingutter set. However, the rack on my RAV4 has Thule bars - at least, Thule compatible bars. While looking at the Thule site, I noticed that they now sell covers for the Tracker feet, bringing the appearance with the rack off comparable to Yakima. paulj SciJohn 03-22-2007, 08:54 PM Funny, I aways thought that the round bars were stronger, you know like an arch distributing the load evenly around the bar. And although my "E" does not travel at warp speed, the round bars would seem to be more aerodynamic. Not that it would make a big difference on an "E". I don't know if Thule or Yakima is stronger but you are correct that if all else is equal (example, kind of metal, thickness, and length of bar) round is stronger than square. As for aerodynamic??? I would not think that would be in an Element owner's vocabulary. CALJON 03-22-2007, 10:50 PM :) Got to get a set of covers for sure, that was the one disappointment I had with Thule, no cool covers when I removed my rack. Thanks for the tip. | |
