This Alpine head unit is coming out next month sometime (according to the manufacturer's site: http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=iDA-X001). I have heard great things about Alpine head units and this new one has really peaked my interest; Mostly because of the 2" screen.

I was wondering if anyone had good/bad things to say about Alpine decks before I go out and get this once it comes out. Thanks in advance.

Thats pretty nice looking. I got the 9852 last year and love its ipod interface. Its kinda hard to find the exact song I want but its better than an FM transmitter or AUX jack. Kind of reminds me of something I saw at walmart, but MUCH MUCH better quality. If it where me though, Id spend an extra $50 and get the Jensen touch screen model in the other post.

It does look like a nice unit. I will have to take that one into consideration as well.

I've had a couple Alpine HU's and they were great. I wouldn't buy one now because they sell them at Best Buy. I try not to do Big Box stores. I have no problem with Alpine other than that. Personally, I don't see that itty bitty screen as being that great. If you have an ipod then maybe this is the unit for you.

I do, but I find that more recently I've been listening to XM much more than the Ipod (found a station I love). I checked out the jensen unit today at circut city (which was tagged at 600 dollars ) and it seems like a nice unit. Given that there's room for it, the price, the forum information about it... it seems as though I can't go wrong with the jensen. The alpine looked really nice for a little bit since it basically put the ipod screen on the unit itself (in a sense) and I really wanted a unit that would display the artist and song name at the same time like my father's aftermarket XM radio.

Besides, if there's ever standstill traffic then I'll have a dvd player in the car at all times (lol). But seriously, the jensen does look like a good unit. I'll see how the reviews are in a month and make a final decision then, but it would seem as though that will be the way I will go.

I just ordered one from crutchfield, it should be here in a couple of days. I'll let you know how it turns out. I've had great success with Alpine in the past. I have a JL cleansweep hooked up now and it's just not cutting it and the ipod plugged in through the aux jack sounds like relative crap. I'll post pictures when I get it installed by weeks end.

Aah sounds good. I would like to hear someone's first-hand experience with it.

I took a long look at this last night on Crutchfield. It doesn't have a disc player on any kind. Sure it's got a cute little screen, but you can't watch ipod videos on it. If this retailed for $199. I'd recommend it. But $499.? Clarion has a similar unit without the cute little LCD for $149. You could buy a DD LCD unit that plays DVD's and use the A/V inputs to watch video's off you ipod.

Mmm. I had actually just realized that about a week ago : ) At the time of the initial post, I did not realize it did not have a disk player. So, no more considering that unit. Honestly, I rarely use my CD player but its nice to have at those rare times. Decided to go with either the Jensen double din touchscreen or possibly a Kenwood for 200 dollars more. Going to research and decide if 200 dollars more is really worth it for whatever they are offering over the Jensen unit. Either way, some double din touchscreen is going in.

Good choice. I've been looking at the Kenwood too and I like the look. They might be a little to expensive for me so I'm still considering the Panasonic and Clarion. I'm probably going to install some old components I have lying around and see what happens from there.
