Here's 2 of my babies...

First, my preciousssssssssssssss Bimbette - she was sick when we got her as a little kitten and took 2 months to get over it. We're pretty sure she got some sort of brain damage from it cuz she's dumb as a box of rocks, but she's the cutest, sweetest, most loving little kitty you'll ever meet. We just have to be careful to protect her from herself...

My "Mewse" at her instrument....
http://www.somerandomwebsite.org/img/Kittycat-The-Mewse.jpg

And another of her riding her "Couch Harley"...
http://www.somerandomwebsite.org/img/couchrider.jpg

Second, my Jekyl & Hyde big black male cat, Kitty aka Fernando Martinez aka The Great Kittini (He can get into anything, he can get out of anything!) aka CAAAAAAAAAAT! He turns from evil mastermind genius (ever seen a cat who can open tupperware?) during the day to snuggly, lovey, purry, happy kitty at night...
http://www.somerandomwebsite.org/img/TheBeastInTheWindow.jpg

Bimbette has a sister Elvira who essentially looks the same but is jet black with chocolate brown highlights in sunlight. Unfortunately, she's a bit shy and she's REALLY REALLY light absorbing so she's almost completely impossible to get a picture of :(

Me <3 my kitties!

That's kinda scary, I assumed she was a one-of-a-kind, cuz I don't see how any cat with her intelligence (or lack thereof) could survive in the wild - we got her from a shelter when she was a wee little bag of skin & bones. Now she's fat & sassy :D

Mewse's look-alike... I forget what the source of her brain injury was, but she definitely had one.... it became most apparant in the area of her hygiene problems. She couldn't figure out how to poop so that it all came out, and would trot around the appartment with the sh!t hanging out her butt all day, dangling off her long grey fur. Sometimes I wouldn't notice in time, would reach down to scritch her, and she'd rub her butt against me happily.... ewwww!

She was something else.

Poor brain-injuryed pretty grey longhaired kitties!

LOL...I've seen cats like that...I definitely agree with the ewwwww part! Ours is more like Barbie - completely oblivious of everything. She definitely knows hygeine though, spends most of her time licking herself and has the most amazingly glorious fur you've ever seen. Everything else though, she just kinda gives you a curious look then asks for petting :D

Good for you giving up the smokes
Here is a top 10 list I found for you CAT

"Top Ten Reasons Why Dogs
Are Better Pets Than Cats"

1. Dogs will tilt their heads and try to
understand every word you say. Cats will
ignore you and take a nap.

2. Cats look silly on a leash.

3. When you come home from work, your
dog will be happy and lick your face. Cats
will still be mad at you for leaving in the first place.

4. Dogs will give you unconditional love until
the day they die. Cats will make you pay for
every mistake you've ever made since the
day you were born.

5. A dog knows when you're sad. And he'll
try to comfort you. Cats don't care how you feel, as
long as you remember where the can opener is.

6. Dogs will bring you your slippers. Cats will
drop a dead mouse in your slippers.

7. When you take them for a ride, dogs will
sit on the seat next to you. Cats have to have
their own private basket, or they won't go at all.

8. Dogs will come when you call them. And
they'll be happy. Cats will have someone take
a message and get back to you.

9. Dogs will play fetch with you all day long.
The only thing cats will play with all day long
are small rodents or bugs, preferably ones
that look like they're in pain.

10. Dogs will wake you up if the house is on
fire. Cats will quietly sneak out the back door

A cat could be man's best friend, but never stoops to it.
Cats can purr; dogs can't.
A cat is nobody's fool.
Cats are cleaner, and don't get all nasty like this: http://www.oes.org/page2/3147~Extreme_Drooling.html
My cats do indeed greet me at the door with love and affection every day and curl up cuddling with me every morning... all of the love, none of the barking and drool.
Being a cat-owner requires much less poop-handling.
And I can stay out all night long on hot dates, take long weekend trips, and not have to worry about getting home to the dogs and taking them outside.
Cats are easy to understand... if you're a woman ;)

Cats kill mice.

I have a corn-burning furnace and a large homemade corn storage bin in the basement (2200+ lbs capacity). When I mention that to many people, they get this worried look and inform me I might get mice in my house...

I smile and nod, saying that I hope so. It's cheaper to feed the cats that way and gives them some entertainment ;)

Cat
04-03-2007, 02:09 PM
Mmmmm, yummy mice.

But really... that's quite cool. Never heard of a corn-burning furnace before! Though it makes sense... corn's used for alternative fuel for cars, yeah? I saw a West Wing episode about that once. (everything I know about the world, I learned from West Wing. And from my cats).

Twilightzero
04-03-2007, 04:03 PM
Yeah it's nice, it burns a little fire all the time, drops in kernels of corn a few at a time and keeps the house nice & warm. I can have the thermostat set lower than I normally would and it's quite comfortable since it warms the whole house, not just the air in the center of the room. It's obviously more daily maintenance than a gas furnace but WAY less than burning wood and it's pretty darn cheap to keep going, especially if you can buy a big bulk of your corn at harvest time in the fall!

And the old half sheltie loves to sleep in front of it :D

I know the feeling...dogs really tie you down to home ALL the time.

Luckily, I have a couple I'm friends with who already have 2 dogs and a big yard and are quite willing to trade dog-sitting.

Unluckily, they're having a baby in June...no more dog sitting, too much going on :(

EXCERPTS FROM A CAT'S DAILY DIARY:

Day 283 of My Captivity: My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another house plant. Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded; must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair, must try this on their bed. Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was. Hmmm, not working according to plan. There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary confinement throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More importantly, I overheard that my confinement was due to my power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage. I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an
informant, he speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the high metal room, his safety is assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time ....

Imagine Barbie as a cat. That's what I have :D

In reality she's probably brain damaged - she was REALLY sick when we got her and her sister and it took the grey one a long time to get over it. And when she was sick she wouldn't eat hardly at all since it was a respiratory infection - it has something to do with cats preferring to breathe through their nose, and if their nose is blocked up they don't really want to eat since they can't really breathe while they're doing it. Or something like that. But she's all better now and some of the best entertainment in the world. We just have to be careful to protect her from herself :D

Then today my sister in law sends me this!~

Cat Lover or Not, this is hysterical!!!

We've all had trouble with our animals, but I don't think anyone can top this one:

Calling in sick to work makes me uncomfortable. No matter how legitimate my excuse, I always get the feeling that my boss thinks I'm lying.

On one recent occasion, I had a valid reason but lied anyway, because the truth was just too darned humiliating. I simply mentioned that I had sustained a head injury, and I hoped I would feel up to coming in the next day. By then, I reasoned, I could think up a doozy to explain the bandage on the top of my head. The accident occurred mainly because I had given in to my wife's wishes to adopt a cute little kitty.

Initially, the new acquisition was no problem--.

Then one morning, I was taking my shower after breakfast when I heard my wife, Deb, call out to me from the kitchen.

"Honey! The garbage disposal is dead again. Please come reset it."

"You know where the button is," I protested through the shower pitter-patter and steam. "Reset it yourself!"

"But I'm scared!" she persisted. "What if it starts going and sucks me in?" There was a meaningful pause and then, "C'mon, it'll only take you a second."

So out I came, dripping wet and butt naked, hoping that my silent outraged nudity would make a statement about how I perceived her behavior as extremely cowardly.

Sighing loudly, I squatted down and stuck my head under the sink to find the button. It is the last action I remember performing.

It struck without warning, and without any respect to my circumstances. No, it wasn't the hexed disposal, drawing me into its gnashing metal teeth. It was our new kitty, who discovered the fascinating dangling objects she spied hanging between my legs. She had been poised around the corner and stalked me as I reached under the sink. At the precise moment when I was most vulnerable, she leapt at the toys I unwittingly offered and snagged them with her needle-like claws. I lost all rational thought to control orderly bodily movements, blindly rising at a violent rate of speed, with the full weight of a kitten hanging from my masculine region.

Wild animals are sometimes faced with a "fight or flight" syndrome. Men, in this predicament, choose only the "flight" option. I know this from experience. I was fleeing straight up into the air when the sink and cabinet bluntly and forcefully impeded my ascent. The impact knocked me out cold.

When I awoke, my wife and the paramedics stood over me. Now there are not many things in this life worse than finding oneself lying on the kitchen floor butt naked in front of a group of "been-there, done-that" paramedics.

Even worse, having been fully briefed by my wife, the paramedics were all snorting loudly as they tried to conduct their work, all the while trying to suppress their hysterical laughter......and not succeeding.

Somehow I lived through it all. A few days later I finally made it back in to the office, where colleagues tried to coax an explanation out of me about my head injury. I kept silent, claiming it was too painful to talk about, which it was. "What's the matter?" They all asked, "Cat got your
tongue?"

If they only knew!

Why is it that only the women laugh at this?

Instructions for giving your cat a pill

1. Pick cat up and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.

2. Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.

3. Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away.

4. Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of ten.

5. Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call friend.

6. Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, hold front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get friend to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down, remove ruler and rub cat's throat vigorously.

7. Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered Doulton figures from hearth and set to one side for glueing later.

8. Wrap cat in large towel and get friend to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force cat's mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw.

9. Check label to make sure pill is not harmful to humans, drink glass of water to take taste away. Apply band-aid to friend's forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap.

10. Retrieve cat from neighbour's shed. Get another pill. Place cat in cupboard and close door onto neck to leave head showing. Force mouth open with dessert spoon. Flick pill down throat with elastic band.

11. Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of last tetanus shot. Throw Tee-shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom.

12. Ring fire brigade to retrieve cat from tree across the road. Apologise to neighbour who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take last pill from foil-wrap.

13. Tie cat's front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table, find heavy duty pruning gloves from shed, hold cat's mouth open with small spanner. Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of fillet of steak. Hold head vertically and pour pint of water down throat to wash pill down.

14. Get friend to drive you to the emergency room, sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye. Call furniture shop on way home to order new table.

15. Arrange for SPCA to collect cat. Ring local pet shop to see if they have any hamsters.

Please be careful and know that lillies are poisonous to cats and can cause kidney failure. My cat suffered kidney failure a couple of years ago. She's an indoor cat only and the vet asked if she'd been exposed to anti-freeze or lillies. I happened to have a flower arrangement sitting quite high on a shelf, but apparently that was enough exposure. There's lots of info on the internet if you do a Google search for plants/flowers that are poisonous to cats. By the way, my cat recovered completely after 5 days in the hospital and a further 2 weeks of fluid therapy at home. It was a very scary time, though.

Here's Marcus we just lost him sometime VERY early morning on August 12th. Liver failure at 7 yrs old, we woke up and he had passed. I had been trying to desperately get him back on track, but he took a turn for the worse the Tuesday before and just kept going downhill even with subQ fluids at home to help support his dehydration. The picture is not upside down, he is; taken in May 2007 before he got sick. We miss him terribly.

...More than 50 percent of the current asthma cases in the U.S. are the result of allergies, especially to cats, according to a new National Institutues of Health (NIH) study...

Hah!

Miura spends most of 23 hours out of each and every day running from imaginary ax murderers. Stella, fooled everyone including the vet and turned out to be a fella...he has quite the personality...ofcourse, he OWNS everything in the house- including us...and he drools -bleh! But only when he's oh so comfy and relaxed....which unfortunately means when he is lying on top of you....just watch for the signs of a sudden head shake! BLEH!

Okay -- Cat's rule, I hear ya.
My cat does rule---my HOUSE!
I rescued her when she was a tiny kitten - a stray had a litter under my house, I heard cryng one day and saw a momma & daddy cat luring this little kitten out into the field next door. Then they left her there and the momma cat went back to the rest of the litter. Well I couldn't let that little baby die out in the field, so I picked her up, took her to the vet, where they labled her "skanky" and worm riddled. She got all fixed up, and she is pure "evil" in a cat body! I know now why her old family tried to get rid of her!
She sneaks up behind you all the time and attacks you - especially when your watching a scary movie - she acts like she'll play with you then attacks! - She won't drink water unless it's in a bowl poured fresh from the sink (I think she thinks we'll try to poison her) She constantly puts dead critters in our shoes! - she even tries to drop them on top of my feet when I use the bathroom late at night and leave the lights off (always turn them on now!) She makes you play fetch until your arm falls off, if you stop throwing that's another thing you'll find in your shoe. She rips the toilet paper off the roll - BUT she does do 1 nice thing! She gives you high 5's when you use the bathroom:oops:

Wow, I thought my cat was the only one that played fetch. She loves the plastic rings off the tops of Vitamin Water bottles. She'll play fetch with those for hours. Once you stop playing, she shoves them under the couch.

Lifted the couch one day and found 27 of those plastic rings under there.

...twenty seven.

She really loves the milk rings off the milk jugs - but her favorite is aluminum foil--yuck! you have to be real quiet when getting it out - She also hears candy wrappers, especially the foil off Hershey kisses -Those are her favorite!--and mine too, so I have to sneak candy around the cat8-)

I had been cutting down a verry large 40 year old mullberry tree at my house and hauling a little bit off every day to work. At lunch driving to a pit and unloading Id been at it for a week and one day I saw a oil field tanker truck pull out of the road I was turning on. It was going at a fast clip and i saw several what looked like quail or dove come out of the bottom back of the tractor trailer. The car in front of me drove right over them. I went past and flipped a u turn and went back. There were 6 little kittens (the vet said they were 3-4 days old) well I picked them up and took them home and me and wife raised them night and day for 2 months. We wound up keeping 2 of them this was 4 yesr ago. Best dam pets ive ever had ,they truly think they are human anyhoo hers some picks of peanut and dude

You're all killing me with these pictures of your cats! As of late I have been to a couple shelters here on Long Island looking for the right cat for me.:)

I really like a particular cat at a north fork shelter named Penelope (http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=8038309), and while I was in the cat room, another cat named Kitten (http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=2375317) would not leave me alone...she was very friendly. I'm partial to Penelope since she is "odd-eyed" (http://www.flickr.com/groups/66353010@N00/) (has two different eyes)...the pictures on Petfinder.com do not do her justice, she and her eyes are beautiful in person.

I was also at another shelter this past Saturday and saw a cat named Valentino (http://www.littleshelter.com/cats/cat9-5.htm) who was very friendly. There was another cat named Caroline there as well who was in a cage since she was recently sick and just finishing her medication. They say she will be ready to be adopted inside of a week.

I'll be sure to post here should I get a cat any time soon.:D

Until then, I'll just get my dosage of cat from my friend's Manx named Cali.

Just go and sit down, a cat will pick YOU!

That's what happened with our big male cat. We told the shelter we wanted a non-shy cat and they said they had just the guy. They let him out, he wandered over to me, and I picked him up. He immediately threw his paws around my neck and started to purr so loud my wife could hear it 10 feet away. We were left with no choice but to take him...

In the nine years I've had my house I have seen maybe two strays come my way, but they must have just been passing through as they only hung around for a moment or two.

When I was at the shelter in Southold, I was greeted in the cat room by "Kitten" and she didn't seem to be concerned that I was there to see Penelope...Kitten just kept after me.

Kitten is a very sweet cat and is declawed, so she would have to be an indoor only cat (which is my intention either way since my road is relatively busy).

Another vote for Kitten! I thought so in the first post you mentioned-my tomcat "Bobby Seale" picked me out too. I went to the shelter to see a large female named Ebony. She had "cruised" me at Petsmart the week before. On this occasion, she wouldn't even look at me. On my way out, feeling rejected, a large black tom grabbed my jeans with his paw. Our eyes met, and I knew I had a new adopted son :D We've been a family (adopted a feral tuxedo named Moon later) for 9 years now.

This is my baby AJ Moye. I found him at one of my apartment sites that I manage..... some kids were trying to hurt him. When I ran the kids off, he ran away....about an hour or so later I found him uner my car and then I spent the next hour trying to get him out from under there..... finally I got him out from under the car, brought him into my office and gave him water. It took him about an hour or so to check everything out and plop down on my desk. (Like, "This will do.")

That night he went home with me in my van, somehow got out of the box I had him in, got on my lap and sat on my lap looking out the window the entire drive home......He is now chubby and happy....Oh and very spoiled.. And takes NO s**t from my dogs .......He runs the place!

Sounds like my big male kitty last year. I built a large storage bin to hold corn for my corn furnace. When the bulk truck came to deliver the corn, the auger arm was too long to swing out in my driveway, so they brought out their vacuum delivery system. This consists of a huge vacuum motor and spout on the end of a 200 ft 4" hose.

Of course, big kitty was checking out the bin with a lot of interest, since it's built right under the old coal delivery door and the coal door was open. Imagine his surprise when the vacuum suddenly started running and shooting corn and dust all over the place! It was like he was in a cartoon, the paws were going at light speed but he didn't move for a good 2-3 seconds before getting his traction and taking off like a cat out of hell.

I'm gonna try to get it on video this year, need another delivery soom :D

I spent the bucks and took her to a veterinary opthamologist, and she said there was little to be done. She did however recommend L-Lysine added to her food during outbreaks to hasten the clearing up. It's a food additive you can grind up and put in their food. She suggested 500 mg daily til the outbreak cleared, and you can get it at health food stores..It really does seem to help..

When we got our first cat, Michael, he would come to our bedroom doorway and stand up and scratch the door facing to get us up. Someone told me to get a water pistol and when he did it to squirt him and he would stop. I did, and he then would stand outside the door and reach around and scratch it. We finally cured him by a visit to the vet. (No more scratching)
Now he gets on my dresser and stares at me around 6 am. If I don't get up he begins methodically swatting coins, my watch, cell phone or anything else he can push off into the floor until I finally get up.
I guess we know who's boss????

My cat has an auto feeder-- she actually hates wet food (yeah she's weird) it's hell when I'm trying to give her medicine and I don't have anything to mix with it.

She does love those katty shack kitty treats in the little carton. I have it on the counter in a basket with all the pet treats and when she wants one she pulls it out and whacks it with her paw and sends it flying across the kitchen, then the dog picks it up and sneaks off with it. He actually got into one time and I yelled at her that she would have to go the rest of the week with no treats because she fed them to the dog.
I think she made my life hell that week:evil:

Thanks, as is yours. She was a rescue so I don't know what kind os siblings she has running around. But PA and TX are pretty far apart...

She actually doesn't beg (usually) while sitting at the table. She just likes to be part of the family.

Here's another, albeit a little blurry.
