: A coyote wanders into a diner...
gisele 04-04-2007, 04:49 PM I just saw this news story.
A coyote sauntered into a Quiznos subs in Chicago, walked past two customers and went behind the service counter. The two workers scattered; one screamed and hopped on the counter. Another employee emerged from the back area and everyone left the store. It was all caught on CCTV. The coyote then climbed into the beverage cooler where he stayed for 45 minutes until animal control took him away.
The coyote is approx. 1 1/2 years old. This is the third coyote capture in the last 4 weeks in Chicago.
The coyote was really pretty.
UnoKitty 04-04-2007, 06:48 PM Amazing story. Even more amazing is that it was a downtown sandwich shop represented by the green arrow in the attached map.
If you're familiar with Chicago, thats Lake Michigan on the east, Buckingham Fountain on the south east. And the building just the other side of Michigan Ave is the Art Institute.
Of course, to the north and west is the Chicago River looping around downtown
gisele 04-04-2007, 06:54 PM I know Chicago. I just can get why coyotes are in the city. Even the suburbs are densely populated pretty far out to the north and west. Maybe they're coming south of the city?
dparrothead1 04-04-2007, 06:58 PM Maybe he was looking for his brother!!!!!

"can I help you" says the counterman
"I am looking for some road kill" says the coyote
"to eat here or to go" says the counterman
"to go" says the coyote "I am in the mood for some Carrion"

UnoKitty 04-04-2007, 07:47 PM Could the coyotes be living in Grant Park? I can't think of any other place that they would be safe from cars. They could use the OuterDrive underpass to get to the Museum Campus....
Just a thought...

Just a thought...
Grant park is open-- no forest and flat. I wonder if someone let them loose. Like maybe they are domesticated (slightly). Just a thought
I figured out what the coyote was doing.
It was chasing this:

hownowcb 04-05-2007, 11:31 PM Granted, St. Paul ain't exactly Chicago, but last summer, while my friend from New Zealand was visiting, we saw coyotes, foxes, wild turkeys, and deer inside the city limits in a matter of a couple of days. We even had black bears later in the summer, but the Kiwi was safely gone by then.
Heh - I too, first thought this was gonna be an animal joke thread!
Miss Ellie & Co. 04-06-2007, 01:26 AM You see them all over Los Angeles too.
At some of the national parks coyotes will come right up next to you and mooch for handouts.
They give you those pitiful sad eyes.
Coyotes are smart and that can make them great beggars.
I think this one's a local.
Unfortunately this guy will probably be back too.
gisele 04-06-2007, 09:40 AM Sorry to those who are disappointed this isn't a joke thread. To make up for it read this...http://www.bored.com/jokes/0161064.html
COYOTE V. ACME
In The United States District Court, Southwestern District, Tempe, Arizona
Case No. B19293, Judge Lance Ito, Presiding
Wile E. Coyote, Plaintiff
-vs.-
Acme Company, Defendant
Opening statement of Mr. Harold Schoff, attorney for Mr. Coyote:
My client, Mr. Wile E. Coyote, a resident of Arizona and
contiguous states, does hereby bring suit for damages against the
Acme Company, manufacturer and retail distributor of assorted
merchandise, incorporated in Delaware and doing business in every
state, district, and territory. Mr. Coyote seeks compensation for
personal injuries, loss of business income, and mental suffering
caused as a direct result of the actions and/or gross negligence of
said company, under Title 15 of the United States Code, Chapter 47,
section 2072, subsection (a), relating to product liability.
Mr. Coyote states that on eighty-five separate occasions he has
purchased of the Acme Company (hereinafter, "Defendant"), through
that company's mail-order department, certain products which did
cause him bodily injury due to defects in manufacture or improper
cautionary labelling. Sales slips made out to Mr. Coyote as proof
of purchase are at present in the possession of the Court, marked
Exhibit A. Such injuries sustained by Mr. Coyote have temporarily
restricted his ability to make a living in his profession of
predator. Mr. Coyote is self-employed and thus not eligible for
Workmen's Compensation. ... (joke/case continues in the link below)
