Not sure of other E's but on the SC the roof beams are pretty much held to the rook skin with silicone from the factory. How do I know? I was having a bad rattling from the roof, pulled the headliner for dynamat. Thats when I noticed the silicone was no longer holding the roof skin, so we siliconed it back and dynamatted the roof. Voila, no more rattlet.

Do you think this is unique to the SC's? I also get a good bit of rattling from my roof when my subs hit. At first it seemed like it was all coming from the over head console. I took off the console "door" and then dynamatted the whole thing and put it back in. But i still get some rattling from the roof. I guess its really not bad. I'm trying to come up with a good solution for the hatch/tailgate. eDeaded that crap and it still rattles. Put a towel between the tailgate and the little flipply thing that goes inbetween the car and tailgate and that helped, but its pretty ghetto. Anyways, back to your thread, unique to SC or common to all E's?

If your getting a rattling from the roof and it sounds like metal on metal, pull the headliner and check the beams to see if they have separated from the roof skin.

It isn't silicone. It is automotive adhesive. The roof beams are welded along the outer parts and bonded to the roof itself. This can crack, but it isn't a common thing I wouldn't think.

Jpeaslee,

Ever since I put my 'system' in, I've been noticing a rattling in that area also...I thought it was the rear view mirror or the overhead console, not the case apparently.

I have the same rattle. Sounds like something in the overhead console but its not. What is it?

I'm tellin you folks, the roof beams break loose. I removed the headliner in mine and there were two beams, one in the back and one at the center console. When they break loose the rattling you hear is the roof skin rattling against the roof beams. And on mine there were NO welds just the adhesive.
