Hey group!
This site has been a tremendous help! I'm planning a cross country trip with the Mrs and our Basset. So, naturally, I had to do some mods to my E. I have a 2006 Atomic Blue 2WD. Anyway, I needed to make a direct battery connection for my ham rig through the firewall. I found the knock out above the hood release. There was a rubber plug in it that I popped out and turned it into a grommet. It comes out into the drivers side wheel well under the covering ( I forget what it's called). You simply pop out one of the plastic fasteners, reach around, and your wires are there! I also found a hole going right into the engine compartment from the wheel well. Perfect fit! So, my power is wired.
I also added a Cobra 19 CB and hung it from the ceiling compartment. Drilled out two small holes in the back for the antenna and power. I picked up the power from the connector feeding the map lights. For that, I cut the wire, added the CB power, soldered, taped, and closed it up. The antenna wire came up the drivers side pillar (snaps right off!) and under the headliner along the windshield. I brought it right into one of the holes I drilled into the ceiling compartment. Perfect fit!
Again, thanks to ALL that posted pics and descriptions of how to do this!!!
