(it all starts at post 315....)

This thread can be used for the planning of this novel concept....

I was reading through the other posts and laughing to myself about an East meets Wests RUMBLE! It's an all-out EOC smackdown!

(please continue with the planning discussion ... i'll giggle to myself over here)

A cut and paste to roll this along......

This kind of traveling meet would certainly require long term planning.

Everyone's job's are different and vacation times vary.

Paid vacations are great but some folks have it done differently.

Some folks have family things that come first.

Me on the other hand find my E-friends are my family.
(in spite of children and animals I have)
So I'm in...chuckle.

A 2 years out date is how to do this.......for the center of the country....

Roughly each side drives about 1,775. miles give or take, being each side 1 day and 1/2...)but then there would/could be stops along the way to make it enjoyable......now we're talking longer....really needs, like u said, 10 days, maybe 8 or 9 but there are so many variations of the idea.
I'd be willing to work on this project knowing a strong member is working out there, on the west coast....each side requires a core group of comittments, and the misfits from east and west shall meet in the middle for 2 days maybe 3.

Would be a blast.....But Wyoming and Montana is so far and not in the middle for the east coasters.....it needs to be in the middle more like Iowa, -Route 80 crosses right through that area........ That's the cross route for the USA. .

Start from on east is Lubec, Maine...(as we have some mainers)
End would probbably me SF, in CA....guessing......
Let's think on this for the year 2009 or 2010.
Now how sick our we to even do this? Very sick but it's all about meeting the people not the places.....
as always, wish you could come to our Quninebaug Cove meet.

Here's my thoughts on this.

I think it would be very difficult to get West Coasters interested in driving 2-3 days to Iowa or Missouri for a camping gig in the middle of the summer. It's too hot and not very exciting.

You must remember that the West Coasties are spoiled rotten by all the National Parks and primo wilderness destinations out here.
In order to motivate them, the camping location would need to be somewhere spectacular and all those places are in either in the Rockies or west of them. .

No matter where we end up going to, 10 days would be needed to the thing right.
I think that driving for two days, to go camping for two days, and then driving for two days to get back home might be too tiresome for most folks.

There's so much involved with doing a trip like this and it's important that we cover all the angles and plan it down to the tee.
But I am very excited about it and willing to do whatever's necessary to make it worth while and unforgettable.

So at the outset we should at least plan on a ten day trip.
2 days to get there, 4-5 days to camp and enjoy everything and everyone, then two days to get back home.

I should think that 1 to 2 years advanced notice is enough time for people to set aside the necessary vacation time in which to do this.

And I wish that you guys could be here for our Wine Tour too!

Tim's concept

It may be more plausible to plan progressive 'mini-meets' in locations across the country, People can meet at a location fairly close to their home ( within a day's drive), camp/meet for an evening, then the group can move on to the next site.

This way members can still join in on the experience, for as long as they are able. Just take a couple of days, or a couple of weeks. No one would have to commit to the entire trip, just pass the 'torch', one starting east, and one west.

If planning were to start early enough in the summer, with locations mapped out, starting east and west, then moving west and east, somewhere in the middle, both groups will meet, a couple of weeks later....

This can possibly be the largest continuous meet ever! Conceivably, we can have 4 starting points - 2 on each coast, until we meet in the middle.

Kind of a neet Idea. The planning will need NASSA project planning software!

I think that we should try something like the Geo Caching travel bug. We could use a matchbox Element.

Instead of leaving it at a location for someone to pick up, we pass it from person to person. Mailing it is not acceptable! I'll start one on the east coast. It will be the west bound E. If you receive it, You must pass it to someone west of you! After posting a Photo.

I'll start a new thread !

Nice idea on the caching Dom! I have a travel bug in my possession right now that has a mission of reaching Virginia. I am bringing it with me and hoping to find a cache to put it in near the campground? Wanna haul me around and help me find a home for the Marco Polo travel bug? :)

Hey Dom,
I like this idea too. I've done both geo-caching and letter boxing. We've done very close to the same thing. We have some items crossing the country right now. Let's have some fun! Now, let me see, who lives west of me, hummmm.
Carly, Justin, Gaily, Rambler.......

Yeah, let's do this.

I just want something made very clear.......

I WILL HAVE NO PART IN ANY GEO CRASHING OR LETTER BOMBINGS.

While not partial to small cars, Geo"s are OK.

Letter bombings? I gave that up many years ago.
