Hi
I would like to know what is the best and easiest way to route wires for a 5 channel amp (soundsream 355) to be located under the rhs rear seat. I plan to put in an aftermarket MP3 player ( with usb connection).

I plan to have 8 guage power from batter to amp.
2 sets of rca pairs from deck to amp
2 pairs of speaker wires from amp to behind deck ( to utilize factory speaker hookups).

Anyone do anything like that?

thanks

Joe

Greatest car install thread ever. I think towards the last few posts he considers mounting the amps in behind the rear window. But this will show you how to mount an amp under the rear seats. I'm considering the rear driver's side window myself, since you can't see out of it anyway.

Thanks, i have seen that and thats way over what i was thinking. I am just trying to figure out what parts ( at minimum) i have to remove within the dash to route the wires and also how to get the power cable through the firewall.

8 gauge for a 5 channel? Seems a bit skimpy on that bad boy, any other insight from the "pros"?

I agree. What amp is it? You really don't need to take apart the dash at all to run the wires. You just need to remove the radio to hook up the rcas and remote turn on. You don't even need to drill through the firewall if its 4awg or less.

Its the soundstream 355 ( http://www.soundstream.com/manuals/AMP/rubican/rub23555/Rub255355555.pdf ) .

I had a quick look at the firewall but i did not see any place that could route it through. From the comments I gather that the wires can easily be routed from the deck to the passenger floor area.

The user manual recommends 8 or 10 gauge - do you think thats not enough. Its a pretty small amp.

I would definately do at least 8. If you're going with cheap wire you might consider going bigger. To route without drilling you can go over/through the fender on the drivers side then go in through the gasket in the door frame. You can also go behind the transmission and up through the middle. If you take out the center console under the shifter and look under the foam stuff you'll see a big rubber patch thing. Honda Guru ran his wire through that. If you do that though make sure you protect the wire really well, both from the transmission and the road.
