K-Dogg you just proved that you don't need a fancy camera... Those rainbow shots are awesome! I always wanted to capture a rainbow on camera. Just goes to prove its not the camera but the camera operator. Good job K-Dogg!

They were in the parking lot. I know I didn't take any pics of them. Not sure if anyone else did? I didn't even wash ours. Kind of good though because it rained often and ground was a bit wet and in some places muddy.

I put up a webpage for some of my pics from the meet (er I mean shoot) to show my friends so they can give me C&C.

Believe it or not, I'm working on those and some other pictures you and SpeedyToasterDave might like. Stay tuned. It's taking me longer than expected cause I've been a little busy. Maybe I can convince the HEOC to have a beach run and photo shoot.

Whadda ya know... I guess it pays to read the owner's manual every now and then. I discovered that my camera has a macro mode.

HokuGirl & Kristi, have a closer look at your cams. You may have macro capability too... Here are a few shots I took yesterday from around the neighborhood.

If you're going to shoot photos of wahines in bikinis, better have some model friends like Tanega, or show up at the beach armed with a 500 or 1,000mm telephoto...

Lest you have sand and a few choice words hurled your way... You might be called sukebe, or worse.

oh. I thought that's why Nalu bought the 100-400 lens.  Just Kidding... although it has occurred to me to borrow it for "special missions" especially after I saw what it can do in paparazzi mode. Nice pic of you K-Dogg.8-)

Thanx K-Dogg for the 411 on macro capability! Naluboy says my point & shoot has the capability, so I guess I'll have to learn it. By the look of your pics you already have it mastered! Your pics look even more awesome!

I think 'macro' is a general reference to close-up photography. Depending on the lens used, macro is usually shot 1:1, meaning the image on the film is the same size as the object being photographed.

If the photographer wants to achieve closer detail, say the structure of sand grains or the eye of an insect, macro can be shot at 5:1 or higher, but focusing becomes an issue.

Somebody correct me if I'm mistaken; Turbo, Nalu, Jun-G, Tanega, Aching, Green-exp? You guys are the lens gurus! I bow to you all!

i'm definitely no lens guru but you're right. and you can read more about it here:

these days, any half way decent digital camera will have a macro option/capability and the symbol is usually something like this:
http://blogs.news.com.au/images/uploads/ps_macro_setting2.jpg

and here are some sample images:
