I recently removed the "ELEMENT" emblem from the back of my E but a mark still appears. Will waxing the car get rid of the mark or do I need to clean it well and wait for my custom emblem to arrive and cover what's there?

If waxing is the way to go, will it effect the adhesive from the new emblem?

Thanks!

What kind of "mark?"

Something on top of the finish? (in which case I'd use a claybar on it)

Is the paint where the emblem was darker (i.e. unfaded) compared to the rest of the paint? Or simply unwaxed compared to the rest of the paint?

Simple wax wears off quickly and can be easily removed with Dawn dishwashing liquid, so I wouldn't worry about wax.

Some polishes (like the hiighly durable Zaino) are another story but I can't personally attest to how that would effect a new emblem's adhesiveness.

Good luck.

Hey Hiker Chick,

Thanks for your reply, I think its more of a result of the paint underneath where the emblem was being either unfaded or it has maintained the original wax.

The outline of some of the letters still appears-it is faint but noticeable from closeup-and I think its a result of the buildup of dirt and wear around the emblem.

I'm wholly unfamiliar with the waxing process but it looks like something that would hopefully go away with a nice scrub and wax. The thing that concerned me about doing that is the new emblem I've ordered. I want the adhesive to stick to the car with the same strength the factory emblem did and I wasn't sure if waxing the car would effect that.

Newbie concerns I guess, but who else can I turn to if not the EOC!!!

Tank;
Use a small amount of Baking Soda on a damp wash cloth and rub gently.(just use the tip of your finger in the rag). This will even remove other car paint like door ding rubs.
 Trust me, I was a detailer for 10 years, and know some tricks.
As for putting a new emblem on, when ready, just wipe the area with some rubbing alcohol and let it dry, no matter how many coats of wax you use.

Bob, you got the glow! Eased my concerns, I'll post pics when I apply the emblem, I just received it in the mail!

For any goo, just use a very very very small amount of Goo Gone. You can just spray it on your fingers, and wipe it over the left over adhesive. Rub it off, and rinse with water. Works like magic. Can be found at any Home Depot, Lowes, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. etc

More than likely it will fade away once it sits in the sun for a few days. It's moisture in the clear coat...sounds bad, but it's not.
A lot of people freak out when they remove vinyl or magnetic signs on their cars - autocross guys are famous on detailing forums for this, because they put magnetic numbers on for events.
In simple terms, it just has to do with the lettering not allowing the sun access to the paint directly beneath it.
Let it sit for a week or so before you go at it with any type of polish or paint cleaner (rubbing compound).
I bet it just fades on it's own...

P.S. I took the badging off of my Magnesium Metallic and was left with the same "ghost" markings...they did fade after a couple hot days.
