: E Bashing on CarDomain.com
GregP 08-14-2003, 01:07 PM Hey all,
I've sent a couple emails to CarDomain about their obvious lack of attention to their web site. If you go there to look at other's Element pages the guestbooks are rife with vulger comments. Some have even created fake Honda Element pages just to bash.
In their "terms and conditions":
Providing material that may be grossly offensive to the online community, including blatant expressions of hatred, prejudice, excessive profanity, or racism.
They haven't responded. Anyone wanting to help me bring attention to the problem, please submit a comment to them here:

klynch13 09-25-2003, 02:37 PM Wow these guys must have too much time on their hands. I know freedom of speech kicks in here but freedom to abuse? I don't know man. I already e-mailed them a while ago about this and got no response. It was posted a while ago from another member. Really they should grow up. It sounds like a bunch of immature kids but who knows, some people never grow up.

Nice one! From the movie "Office Space", right? hehe
MikeQBF 09-25-2003, 05:50 PM Too bad about cardomain, but it's not a surprise. I've not had good experiences with the web forums that are somewhat general in nature. Places like EOC have been great - close-knit communities with a specialized single focus, with everybody supportive and, when needed, sympathetic.
But as soon as you broaden the population, sadly, what appear to usually be teenagers emerge from the woodwork and then do what teens tend to do - castigate anybody and anything that deviates from their view of the world.
Trying to bring it under control is a Catch-22. I used to be a sysop back in the "old days" of the CompuServe online service, so I know the problem well. Moderators who try to reel in the problems usually then get targeted for abuse. At least in the CompuServe days, you could go to a higher authority who could yank the abuser's account. However, the free-for-all nature of the web means that once you "tick" someone off, you and your site are in their crosshairs, and everyone is made miserable and your site rendered useless.
So my edu-guess is that the cardomain moderators are just as displeased, but their hands are basically tied.
:(
StLouisPenguin 09-25-2003, 06:47 PM In my Internet Boards/Chat experience I have found that flamers are going to flame, and the more you try to quite their rants the louder and more abusive they get. If you pull their account they open another one....it is a viscious , never ending cycle.
Mean people suck.....but in all honesty they feed off of the frenzy that they create. It is the anger of others that seems to make them feel important and in general they tend to feel empowered by other's outrage.
My mother always told my brothers and myself, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" (from Bambi....Thumper's Dad)
I think that this goes both ways....I know their are ragers out there, but if we stoop to their level, even if it is in defense or rebutle, it is still not justified to flame....in my opinion of course.

Well... it DOES say "Beware of the Penguin" in your signature.. I don't think you're mean, per se, but you might be conveying the wrong image...
Although, by admitting your're.. umm... nice... you'll probably have a few more fans around here.. lol
